  • Hi ya ladies

Faye, I will keep Carol in my thoughts and prayers. That is just so terrible and sad. WTG on your walking, you are doing an awesome job. I'm trying to vary my walking by going to the park, which I had planned today but we got a surprise storm, and going to the mall, which is quite huge if you do all the ins and outs and on the treadmill. I also do the 2 mile WATP video. I so enjoy walking but the same routine day in and day out seems to bore me, and I will never succeed if I get bored.

Topaz, I think that is great that you walk to work and what a great workout. It also gives you time to clear your mind before getting to work which can be good sometimes. I saw your thread about biking or walking, I think either way you get the same benefits because although you are getting to work faster by riding the bike you are still getting quite a workout, a different workout. You might want to switch and walk 3 days and bike two and then maybe the next week bike 3 days and walk two.

Noelle, glad to see you back on track and thank you for thinking of me. Ooooo, Bangkok, sounds exciting! I know you will get to where you want to be in time for your trip, that right there is motivation enough.

Janine, hope you are having a good week.

Hi to everyone else, Kristi, Kristen, Lynne, Mary, Jen, Jenifer-I hope I didn't miss anyone. We MISS you ladies!

Got my walk in early this morning. Sometimes I love getting up early (5-6am) sometimes but most mornings if I could sleep till 8 or 8:30 I am a much better person. I have never been a morning person and this morning you can tell. Usually my walking energizes me, but not today. Maybe I will take a short nap after I get some laundry done. I'm blaming the weather, it's kind of gloomy.

Well, ladies I hope everyone has a great hump day! Talk to ya soon.

    September Goal~30 miles
    9/16/03~1.5
    9/17/03~3
    Total Miles~17.75
    Miles to go~12.25
  • Today is walk in the mall day with a friend. We go out to breakfast and then walk in the mall. The only thing bad about it is that I don't like to talk when I walk. I focus so hard on what I am doing that I tend to block out everything around me. It is just not that good of an exercise when you are just sauntering along and that's what we do, but then again exercise is exercise and I am really glad she is doing something.

My dh has lost 4 lbs already with his dieting. I am so glad he is seeing results as that will keep him going. Me, I am in a stall and have been for several months, gaining one or two lbs and then losing those again. I need to buckle down and get tough like I was at the beginning of the year. If I can stay level until after we get back from Chicago, I hope to really get back to where I was and jump start my metabolism again.

You ladies all have a nice day and any of you living on the east coast, my prayers are with you today!

    Faye
  • Good Day Ladies

I wish it was sunny outdoors, woke up to rain and once again the wind. I can't be out in this wind because of allergies. I don't have bad allergies but once in a while it is terrible and today is one of those days.

Faye, sounds like DH is doing a great job! WTG for him. I do know what you mean about walking with a friend. I usually walk with DH and while we do talk we stay focused on walking. I tried mall walking with a friend pushing a stroller and it just didn't work at all. She had to stop every other step for her DS who was 2 years old.

Janine, hope you are doing fine.

Noelle, what's up in beautiful Hawaii? Hope you are doing fine also.

No walk for me today I think?? I may do a mile on the treadmill but today I am doing the WATP and a bike ride so we'll see how the day goes.

Hope EVERYONE is having a wonderful day! TTFN
  • Hello Ladies. Well, one of my walking partners is currently out of commission after being attacked by 2 pit bulls 2 evenings ago. That walking partner is our dog Kai (half black lab/half rottweiler). He survived the attack but is still at the vet recuperating from his injuries. I got the police and the humane society involved and am looking to get reimbursed for vet expenses from the pit bulls owner + looking to get those 'dangerous' dogs put down. One of the dogs was already out of the yard, the other jumped over the fence. The attack was unprovoked and very vicious. This will not stop me from going out and walking though.

Faye I will be sending a prayer out for Carol Ann and family. I can relate to 'zoning' while walking and not wanting to socialize. I sometimes get annoyed when the other person starts lollygagging and I just want to keep going full speed ahead.

Cristi I'm glad you're making use of the WATP tape, thanks for taking it off my hands . Take care of those allergies.

Topaz, slogging through 3 feet of snow in the winter huh? That's dedication! For me, I've still got 85-90 degree weather here and if I'm lucky, during our so-called "winter" the temps will go down to the low 70's. I give you mainland dwellers credit for exercising outdoors in the elements.

Hope everyone else has a wonderful day.

  • Today is glider day so no walking. We did do 3 rounds of the mall and it is about 3/4 mile I guess. I just am too obsessive about how far to walk and push sometimes when I shouldn't. I DON'T always have to walk the farthest I can etc. I know I have to fool with my eating plan though when I get back from vacation.

Hope you girls have a great weekend.

Noelle: Hope your doggie gets better. They are vicious animals bred only for fighting and I think they should only be allowed in very strict situations and definitely NOT by regular homeowners. You have to feel sorry for the dogs as they are only doing what comes naturally to them and they end up being put to sleep over it because of a fool of a human being! Hope Mr. Kai is better soon!

    Faye
  • Noelle, so sorry to hear about your doggie I hope he is doing better. Thank god those dogs didn't go after you, or a child. It's bad enough they got your doggie and I don't blame you for wanting them put down. It is sad that it has to come to that because it is not the dogs fault that they have dummy owners. And they should pay for the vet bills definitely! My Aunt has a pit bull (Heidi) and she is the sweetest thing but they do have to keep a watchful eye when other dogs are around. Just be extra careful when you are walking.

    Faye, WTG on your walk!

I haven't gotten my walk in as of yet. I am going to do a mile on the treadmill as soon as I get off this thing and then DH and I are going to the park this evening and hopefully do 2 miles there, so I won't add my walk till this evening to make sure.

Hi to EVERYONE! Have a GREAT weekend ladies!
  • Hello everyone. I am stalling because I need to go and work some more on my menus but it is boring to do!

I leave on vacaton Thurs and am really excited. Not looking forward to turning 50 but I am looking forward to seeing our son and his fiance and having a great birthday celebration. If the Chicago Cubs want to get me a present they need to win the rest of their games and take the division title! My ds and future dil wanted to know what I wanted for my birthday. They already paid for out tickets to the baseball game and I told them nothing else but they wanted to know so I told them what I would really like were some free weights to do strength training. It is something I would not spend money on myself and from what I understand are fairly inexpensive.

I haven't been walking because of time restraints. It is easier doing 20 minute sessions on the glider than finding an hour to walk but since we are going to a museum and to the zoo I will surely get a lot of walking in this weekend.

I better get back to business. Talk to you again soon.

    Faye
  • Hello Ladies. Thanks for the well wishes about my doggie. He's doing much better since most of the swelling's gone down but he's still got a ways to go to be back in top form. On a positive note the other dog owner has stepped forward and offered to make arrangements for payment and to 'make peace' . We'll see! I called him this afternoon and was told he was sleeping. I'm pretty sure he's unemployed so I wanted to reach through the phone and shake his lazy @ss out of bed. He'd better not be blowing smoke up my you-know-what or I'll be filing suit down at small claims court. Sorry for the rant... I agree with the thoughts that it's not the dogs fault, it's the dumb owner .

Faye, have a great time in Chicago and if our paths don't cross on these boards before Thursday, Happy Birthday to you! . I loved the Lincoln Park zoo (if that's where you're visiting) and it is a workout just walking the entire grounds. Have a blast!

Cristi how are you faring these days? Hope all is well with you.

Janine what's happening in your neck of the woods? Stay healthy.

Hello to everyone else (and those we've lost along the way, please pop in and say hi) . Hope everyone is staying on their feet and moving their bodies. Take care!

  • okay...

so it's my first time posting in ages!!! maybe a month and a half, would ya say? gosh...

and there are new faces. i haven't really read through all the posts, (i had to be honest) but i noticed some new faces.

anyway, as for me, what is going on? i hit the 50 pound mark last saturday at ww. i was pretty excited about that. and this week i lost another 2.6. somehow... don't ask me how. cause it wasn't the greatest diet this past week, but it also wasn't the worst. it was just kinda there, ya know? so that's pretty exciting.

my walking has slowed down a bit, though. i'm not all crazy about it like i was in the beginning. and lately, i feel like i have so many time commitments after work. i should really think about getting up early and walking. i'm also thinking of joining a gym. actually, i know i am going to eventually. it's just... which one will i join? i have no idea. i don't want to spend a fortune, but i also want to have options. and having it close to work or home is key. that way i won't be too lazy in the winter.

anyway, that's about it for me. today, i get to babysit my lil' 15 month old nephew. i can't wait. that little kid is just adorable. i love him!

    have a great weekend, everyone!!!
  • Hey Kristen! Welcome back. No worries on not posting, we can see you were out busy walking, exercising and losing a whole bunch of pounds. Congratulations on the 50 lb mark! WW is working wonderfully for you. That is awesome!!!! I wish I could say I was doing as well, but I'm not. I've slacked on the walking, but have improved this month. Hope your weekend with your nephew was fun. I love that age, so rascally. As far as the gym issue is concerned, have you checked out any of the local Y's? They tend to be not as expensive as private gyms...that's my 2 cents. Anyway, glad you could pop in. Hope to see you around .

Hello to all you other ladies out there!

  • Kristen: You need to provide yourself with some variety with your exercise if you have gotten bored with walking. A gym, aerobic tapes, exercise equipment, swimming at the Y, all kinds of things you can do to spice it up a bit. I do a variety of stuff to keep from getting bored.

Please forgive me for copying and pasting about my trip, but I need to get some work done and don't have time to do it all over again Our trip was spectacular. Got into Chicago around 1 AM and slept until around 9. Went looking for Wrigley Field, found it and Harry Caray's, then we went to the museum, I got to feeling bad (TOM decided to rise up) so we decided to go out to their big mall, got lost in downtown Chicago at lunchtime (UGH WHAT A MESS) and 3 hours later instead of lunch, we ate ate dinner at the CHEESECAKE FACTORY (need I say more) and came back to the hotel in a driving rain storm. Saturday, we skipped the ZOO because it was really cold and wet, drove over to Indiana instead to see our son and give him the extra CUBS ticket we had (they were scalping them for $500 each and we paid $20) and he was going to try and sell it, spent the rest of the afternoon and evening with my oldest sister and her husband and went to the big Amish restaurant called Das Essenhaus and drove back to Chicago getting back to the hotel about 10. My sister bought me a baseball mit and glove picture frame for a pic of Thomas, a book I have already read (didn't tell her that though) and a beautiful fall candle in a stand. Sunday was "I TURN 50" day and GIRLIES it was so cold and windy! Because the CUBS played a doubleheader on Sat and won the division title, Sunday's game didn't count for anything, but the WGN announcer and former CUBS player, Ron Santo was having his number retired. The game was at 1:20 and the ceremony at 12:30 but I was sitting on the bed naked having taken my shower at 9:30 am and saw on WGN's news that there were 3000 people at the stadium so we rushed around and left. The wind blew ferociously and it was about 50 so it was so cold. I had taken a blanket, but we had only brought lightweight jackets with us. Our son, his fiance, her friend and the friend's boyfriend and mother (who got the extra ticket, which was fine with us) all got there around 12:30 and we just had a great time. Jay bought his dad a CUBS hat, I bought Thomas this big soft stuffed baseball that said Chicago CUbs on it and a bat (his mom will kill me!) and the first 10,000 ladies got this cute little ceramic bear wearing a CUBS uniform and Ryne Sanburgs # on it. Also, my son, unknown to me had submitted a guest card and they announced my birthday on WGN radio AND TV on Sunday which was really special. We left early since the game didn't count and went back to the hotel and changed into dressier clothes. GIRLS I BOUGHT A PAIR OF 2 INCH HIGH DRESS MULES (SHOES) AND LOOKED HOT HOT HOT! I haven't worn heels in a longggggg time. Dinner at Harry Caray's was fabulous, the food was exquisite though really expensive, our darling son paid for our dinner, but we bought a bottle of champagne and toasted their engagement (my future dil's friends came too). The two of them bought me the most beautiful jewelry box, an assortment of Bath and Body products in my favorite scent, Cotton Blossom, a PAIR OF YELLOW DIAMOND earrings, and this sterling silver "prayer box" necklace. It is this tiny tiny box that you can open like a locket and you insert a prayer into it that you want answered. Other than my period starting and having a mess driving home today, it was just an amazing weekend.

I did a 2 mile walk today and need to get the downstairs cleaned so have to get hopping.
