Default finally back on the treadmill!

I've been doing the elliptical because of a painful knee for a while. I got a brace, and it was feeling better. So I decided to see if I could handle the treadmill without pain. I did 2 miles of intervals and no pain! I hate running, but I know its good for me, and I want to someday jog a 5k. I know its not a crazy long distance or anything, but its still my goal. I will take my little victory and keep working at it.

Nice work. I think I used to dislike running once. But it really grew on me.

Thanks Ian. I have always hated it the entire time. I like how I feel after but during I pretty much hate life. I'm just very...slow..even when I was in the best shape of my life my best mile was 9:30. I think that's part of what makes me hate running, the other part is I think a couple conditions I was born with make it hard for me to go fast. Right now I'm around 13 minute mile...blah. I'd like to do a danc class or kick boxing, but all my gym has is Zumba. But hey I'm gonna do that pull up one day....

That's cool. A few tricks that have worked for me to make running much more pleasant are: i) to always run to music; ii) to wear a sweatband; iii) to get good running shoes; iv) to run in as light clothes as I can (moisture wicking tops and shorts); and, v) - most importantly- running outside with a running partner while talking to help pass the time. Find a cute guy/lady to run with, that talks and is funny and those miles will fly by.

And if all else fails, I just slow it down.

I recently started back on the treadmill as well. And my knee's no get sore after an hour I was thinking of trying trying elliptical. The gym's over sized digital clock is right in my eye line so even without glasses I can literally see the minutes slowly passing that can be to much. Music helps but I think I will need to look for some new 'pump me up' kind of music.

Diamond if you have pandora on your phone get black eyed peas, Rihanna or (terrible I know) ke$ha. They all play mostly upbeat music. It's what I listen to. Although I lose brain cells I think while listening to the latter .
Ian I've got the good shoes, and debatably good music. Headbands fall off my head. I've got a funny shaped head I think lol.
I don't usually run outside because I don't trust drivers on the road. Working in Trauma emergency made me fearful of being anywhere near streets unless I'm in my car and even then I'm on the defense. People drive terribly here and run people over all the time...as in daily.

Have you ever tried losing up your knees before running?

Nicki,

Congrats on the small, yet big, victory! When are you looking to do a 5k? Any date in mind?
