Default Strength training and my new ability!

My spirits are so high right now! I've been reading through the exercise threads trying to cultivate some good information, avoid past mistakes, and learn how to achieve a more productive workout.

I had always avoided strength training. I just felt like it wasn't for ME, so I avoided it like the plague. Then it hit me....cardiovascular exercise was not easy for me in the beginning either. I had to step out of my comfort zone to make that first public appearance and walk in public. Why would strength training be any different? Yes I'm out of my comfort zone, but that should be a huge indicator that I need to do this! How else will I get strong?!

Anyway, I've added strength training to my routine. I've been doing it for a couple of months now. I didn't set any time frames (none of this...I better lose 2 lbs or I'm gonna quit bullcrap! LOL!) The only expectation I had was that I wanted to be stronger and have a bit more stamina.

Fast forward to today. I've been frustrated with the snow and not being able to walk outside. I feel like my indoor cardio workouts are lacking. So today I try to run. I figured I'd do it for a minute then stop and just see how it went. Well, I went for a minute, then another minute, and then another. 5 minutes later I'm running, my hearts beating quickly, I'm breathing hard but not gasping for air, and I feel wonderful! I have NEVER in my life been able to run! My muscles were always too weak! Even walking could be a struggle...how many times I'd lift my legs and felt like I was walking through quicksand (as if gravity were pulling down each limb limiting my abilities to speed up!) I ran again tonight! I honestly believe it wouldn't of been possible if I wouldn't of got my legs stronger.

I just had to share this! I honestly feel so great and can't wait to test it out again tomorrow!

Nice!!!

I've been a fan of strength training for a while- not to be all big muscles or anything but to stay functionally fit.

I'm not yet up to running though- good for you!
