Finished week 3 of a C25K. I had ok running shoes and completely understand wanting to see if you are going to keep at it. But the advice here is excellent. Especially noting that you can also use them for walking. Have a pair of Adidas Boost now and love them.

I didn't have any pain, I wasn't jogging super fast. But if I had even the slightest I would have gotten them sooner. Getting them though they are amazing. So supportive. Money well spent.
