June running we are still here whatever you run!

Please anyone feel free to post your runs here be it a 1/2 mile to 50. If ya love to run please come here! I am terrible at personals but I try.
June 1 3.6
June 2. 3.6
Been keeping the runs short and sweet its really warming up here.Going to have to start running at 1 st light!:o
I love the Aspire water vest I got for my birthday. It holds everything I need and all in reach holds 2 liters of water. I have been carring about 1 1/2 to get the hang of it for when I want to do longer runs

KindaSortaAthlete 06-02-2013 06:21 PM

Devadiva - I hear ya about the heat! It is really starting to warm up/be humid here too. The vest doesn't bounce or bother you in the heat? I had tried a water belt for a while, but hated the bouncing. I moved to a hand held water bottle, with the strap that goes around your hand. Doesn't bother me as much a I thought it would.

I've been really stressed about my running. I ran a half marathon on May 5th, then slacked for about two weeks only running a couple of times. Then I tried to get back into the swing of things with a long run and developed a foot pain that made me stop running for a week until I saw a Doctor. He thinks he fixed the problem, and told me I could run again the next day (this was last week), so I ran a few times but still had foot pain. So they said to take some time off before trying to run again - I'm now on day 2 of no running/hiking.

The thing is I've got a full marathon in October, and my first training week officially starts tomorrow. I planned to run on Tuesday. So.... Things freaking me out are:

1- I hope my foot is better by Tuesday.

2- my weekly mileage for the past few weeks has been like an average of 6-8 miles. My first training week originally had me running 19 miles...but I tweaked it a bit to make it 17 miles. I'm really worried that jumping up so high in mileage after some slow weeks is going to lead to injury :( (even though i was running 21-22 mile weeks just prior to the half marathon). With this structured program, if I start with lower mileage I don't know how I'm going to catch up, KWIM?

CherryPie99 06-02-2013 07:51 PM

Did my last run as a 40 year old this morning and it was my longest distance ever - 16 miles. Slow run - was extremely humid! Finished at 2:12:11.

IanG 06-02-2013 08:37 PM

Did 2.6 miles today in 26 minutes. My longest run ever!

KindaSortaAthlete 06-03-2013 12:18 AM

Gratz Cherry and Ian!! :)

Thanks for starting this month Deva!

OMG SPARTAN RACE yesterday - 5 of the hilliest mountain miles with CRAZY obstacles = I thought I might die/pass out at multiple points but I kept with it and finished with 1:45 which was 97th/2700 women's overall!! Very proud of that but I need to get back to real training 6x/week with hills - I've been slacking the last two months. I start marathon training next month though so I'm not too worried.

Heat break starting tomorrow I hear for all of us near NY/NJ/PA woohoo!! :carrot:

Kinda/sorta - what kind of foot pain is it? I've also suffered from HORRIBLE foot problems for a year now - I've tried everything from taping/wrapping/inserts/custom orthodics/shots etc and nothing worked. Now I'm having surgery to have this [what I have is a neuroma] neuroma removed. What did your doc say your issue was? I'm also training for my first marathon in Nov. which is why I finally said let's just do the freaking surgery...

Sorry to come here lurking, but congrats on your Spartan Race! Was it the on in NY? :)

devadiva 06-03-2013 09:03 AM

Everyone Turbo wrote a report on her SPARTAN race,It's a great report and has pictures very inspiring!

lm3898 06-03-2013 10:59 AM

Thanks Turbo! yes it was NY - I did NJ Super Spartan last year, Citi Field lats month & NY Sprint so far.

This year [I must be crazy] - I'm going for the trifecta - NY [Yesterday], NJ [Sept] and...the BEAST in VT [Sept] while marathon training at the same time...I have quite a summer ahead of me!

Turbo - you did it too? I've love to read your report can you send me the link!

Tabbycat 06-03-2013 12:03 PM

Tabbycat here.

Old lady on the Texas coast (Houston) is slowing down... heat and humidity take a toll. I've slowed to two mile jogs instead of three miles, and I'm drenched and dripping with sweat. I do like the rosy glow I have for the next couple of hours! :)

KindaSortaAthlete 06-03-2013 01:36 PM

Kscott - that's a great quote!!

lm3898 - the pain was on the top of my left foot and I was worried it was a stress fracture. But it turns out I have ganglion cysts in the tops of both my feet (just my luck!!). He says its not unheard of for runners to get these there because of the friction between the top of your foot and your shoe. So he just aspirated the left foot, said keep an eye on the right one, and hope they don't come back. They often do, and eventually you could opt to have surgery to try to fix it more permanently, but this doc says he prefers not to do foot surgery on runners unless he absolutely has no other choice.

When is your surgery?? Where on your foot would that incision be? How long off running for recovery? I'm sorry you have to go through that :( although if it solves your issue for good I'm sure it will be worth it.

I'm so impressed with folks like you and Turbo for doing those obstacle courses!! Maybe after a few months of crossfit I'll feel brave enough to try one :)

Tabby - make sure you take care of yourself out there in this weather!! :)

devadiva 06-04-2013 08:04 AM

No running yesterday to much SMOKE! We are over a hundred miles away but it was super thick! Deep cleaning rugs furniture ect .Did get in 90 min of weights, and today Tues work and puppy class. Will do personals tomarro.

lm3898 06-04-2013 09:18 AM

Deva that's nuts!!

Kindasorta- my surgery is June 25th - only 1 - 2 days recovery and if it actually fixes the problem I'll die of happiness lol. Seriously the worst foot pain after 3 miles now...I need it over. I'm doing a radiofrequency procedure which is in and out with no scarring supposedly & 70% success rate.

devadiva 06-05-2013 08:56 AM

Try to catch up using PC and IPad here it goes
Kindasorta: The vest has no bounce that's what is great,IM3898 got one before me and got me interested! I too have all the item you mentioned but they just did not carry all the water I need on longer runs,to,lip stuff, phone ect. The cysts sound like a real *****.i hope the draining of it helps.I have some on my arch that use to give me problems years ago when waitressing. But have settled down and never give me trouble running. As for mileage take it easy you have plenty of time to get ready for your full marathon.

Cherry; As always you are a rock star "so when is your. Marathon" I see like myself you just had to show yourself up for you birthday 16 miles! You go girl!

IanG:Great time and congrats on your new distance you will have that 5k in a week or two!!

Im3898: I am so impressed with your placement in ALL your races you too are a rock star! I wish you too would post pictures of your Sparten Race. It had to be insane and how proud you must be! The hills change everything! How empowering to do something like that. as for your foot pain I sure hope this procedure does the trick for you! I was noticing the little scar on the top of my foot the other day where they did my neuroma surgrey,I for the life of me can not remember HOW long the recovery was it was over 10 years ago, before running but in my backpacking days,I know I was back to packing real soon, and had it done after I was off for the summer( did not work summers then) so don 't remember down time.

Tabby at: You are not the old lady here I beat ya by several years! Man that heat where you are hot and humid...wow don't know if I could even talk my self into 2 miles!

Well enough think I better get out before it gets any warmer it was over 100 yesterday! And it 70 already and it's 6 am.

Thanks Deva! I only have one photo from spartan so far and one from mudmanx [I placed 5th overall my best finish ever]! But I'll post more!

4.5 miles last night running with my personal trainer - we're doing the 11+ miles NJ Spartan Race together in September so we're going to be running together this summer - I'm not used to running with anyone except my hubs once in a blue moon so we'll see how it goes - she was def. pushing me but that was the longest she's ever run so hopefully she pushes my pace & I push her mileage...

devadiva 06-05-2013 11:06 AM

Im3898: Great PICTURES supercool, closest I ever did to anything like that was a backpack on the Beach in Washington State. You had to run to beat the tide and climb ropes and over rocks ,in those days a 40 lb pack. I felt like I was in the Army! I am envious {I think } a personal trainer!!!I know I run alone and the few races it seems ya always start way too fast because everyone is off and goin!

As for me just got back from a 6.5 not real fast but felt great to run a little further today, kinda nursing IT just don't want a flare up! Its still only 74 no swap cooler yet!

KindaSortaAthlete 06-05-2013 12:47 PM

lm3898 - wow that doesn't sound too bad at all, and hopefully you'll be in that 70% success rate group. Keeping my fingers crossed for you! And those pics are AWESOME!! You look like you're kicking some major butt, lady :)

deva - once I stop hemmorrhaging money whenever I walk into the running store I may have to look into one of those vests. I just bought some trail running shoes and calf compression sleeves the other day. Who said running was a cheap sport?? I like too many "toys" :) take care of your IT!

Got 3 miles in yesterday and my foot starting hurting after a mile. Was supposed to do 5 today but am going to put it off until tomorrow to see if my foot recovers. If it still hurts tomorrow (which will be 9 days after draining the cyst), I'm going to call the doctor again. Grrr...

KindaSortaAthlete 06-07-2013 01:08 AM

I ran 5 miles today and only had minimal soreness in my foot!! It might have helped that every step I was chanting to myself "no, your foot doesn't hurt"! :)

Gonna try 6 tomorrow, fingers crossed!

lm3898 06-07-2013 08:11 AM

Ran 4.2 miles last night with my trainer - she had to stop with asthma issues a few times which was a real bummer b/c it was perfect running weather - cool, overcast, damp, slight drizzle at times!! My favorite!

Enjoy the weekend & log the miles my running friends! xo.

KindaSorta - I know the exact feeling lol - glad you made it 5 miles~

devadiva 06-07-2013 10:20 AM

5 miles this AM another warm one today yesterday 103! Tough to think about long runs.
IM3898: too bad about trainers asthma its a real drag, the weather sounds perfect!

Kinda:Chants are good...so glad its improving????

Everyone lurking jump in any time

CherryPie99 06-07-2013 03:13 PM

Got 7 miles in at lunch today - 63 degrees and overcast.

It's funny - I did not want to go out AT ALL. Was dreading it and had to FORCE myself out the door - ended up being a fantastic run. Love when that happens!!

Jen

KindaSortaAthlete 06-07-2013 05:40 PM

Im3898 - how does it feel to be the one the trainer can't keep up with?? Ok, ok, asthma problems, so maybe that's not fair to say... But go you!

Deva - ugh, heat!! I'm not looking forward to it.

Cherry - great job! What's that quote...something about never regretting a great workout, but having plenty regrets about skipping one.

I did 7 miles today, 1 more than I set out to do. I felt pretty good! My foot was pretty good during the run, but I'm definitely having some soreness post run. Hope I'm not over doing it, I just don't have the patience to sit on my butt anymore. I'm doing some long hikes this weekend - training for a 17 mile hike challenge I've got in 2 weeks (yikes). We'll see how my foot holds up!

devadiva 06-09-2013 02:03 PM

My inside of my kneecap was bugging me after weights Fri. So did not run Sat. We went for a 5 mile hike with pup took breaks not to over tax her. Today decide to give it another day rest did 90 mins of circuit training, will spend time stretch later. It was 107 yesterday!

Lizzyg 06-09-2013 02:06 PM

I'm glad this came up in the new posts today!

I havent done too much running, yet, in June. But plan to pick up the pace again :)

June 3rd - 2.17 miles
June 5th - .95 mile
June 8th - 5.07 miles

CherryPie99 06-09-2013 04:01 PM

Headed out this morning with the intention of going 12, but I felt so good that I ended doing 16.

I've had really good runs before - including today's, but have never gotten a "runner's high". Have any of you?

Dang girl think your ready for that "full Mary"!And what do you think a runners high feels like...sounds like today was one.
I think I just feel it by loving to run.

Tabbycat 06-09-2013 06:00 PM

Tabbycat here.

CP99, I remember getting that "runner's high" two times. That was over 35 years ago when I was in my early 20's. It happened after I'd been running for over 45 minutes. Suddenely I felt like I was floating along and I could go on forever. It was a fantastic feeling!

Since taking up jogging and running a little over a year ago, I have hoped I'd get that feeling again, but I have not, even when I have been running for almost an hour (I admit, though, that I can't go fast. Even when I try my best, an 11 minute mile is the fastest I can run).

Lizzyg 06-09-2013 06:40 PM

I don't know if I've felt a real "runners high" but there have been some really good runs that I just feel so amazing and so good during that I kind of think of it as the "high". I had a 14 mile run last year or the year before that I still remember and I had a nice 5 mile run last weekend that was really nice too.

lm3898 06-10-2013 08:07 AM

Hi everyone,

I agree with Lizzyg- the "high" I feel is really usually just an awesome feeling of accomplishment after my runs!

Humid & gross today - I was glad to get about 6 miles in Saturday morning and a great bike ride yesterday. I ran with a girl from my gym on Sat. which is funny b/c I am the queen of solo running and all three runs last week were with someone else but that was nice b/c I push myself more...we also ran into an all women's running group which I might have to join once or twice...

Welcome all/any new comers!

CherryPie99 06-10-2013 09:04 AM

lm - I was just thinking yesterday during my 16 miler that it would be really nice to have someone to run with! DH runs, but not the distances I do, and he is much slower so we don't run together. When we were first starting out, we did, and I miss that....

Nikel1979 06-10-2013 09:09 AM

I hate injuries. :( I'm allowed to run again, but it's still a bit painful. And I'm not acclimated to the humidity, so I have only been getting in really short distances. Boo! I'm finally seeing some pace increases though. :carrot: I'm going to take it easy and try to keep this new pace and build up speed. I just need to be up to 5-6 mile long runs by August, when marathon training starts.

I did the Color Run with friends this weekend. It was so much fun.:D

devadiva 06-10-2013 02:40 PM

Tabbycat: check out the runners world, age gradient chart you will find you are not as slow as you may think!
LizzG: Glad to hear you had a great 5 miler this last weekend

Im3898: I too am a queen of running alone,I have no one here that runs,Iam sure it does make ya speed up when you run with faster runners

Cherry: So when is that marathon?

Nicole: Injury is the worst I am so glad you TRIED to take it easier through it,and are now able to run again! The color runs look fun..as I have said before I live in the sticks nothing like that here!

As for me rested that knee and it feels better did a 3.5 miler took it easy then got home and did weights..I so need to spend more time stretching after...Is anyone else GUITLY!

I'm going to tell you the same thing I've told my new to running friends this weekend - I was adamant that I'd never run a full marathon, that a half was more than enough. Now I'm getting ready to start training in a couple more months for a full in Dec. And I said the same thing about triathlons. Now I swim for cross-training and am eyeing sprint tris for 2014. I've stopped saying never because I'm always wrong. ;)

lm3898 06-12-2013 08:05 AM

$20 on cherry running one!!!

devadiva 06-12-2013 03:15 PM

Put me in! I ran 3.5 today and did a new cardio cd 1 hr I whipped. I got up at 2 am for so dang reason.I don't sleep we'll any more...it's the pits! I use to love sleeping! Now if I do 5 hrs straight I am lucky.
