Well, let's see. I have been running since August, 2010. At that time, I started the c25k program and ran a 5k after completing it. I ran the 5k on Nov. 13th, 2010. A little hometown 5k with about 100 people. I didn't have a great finishing time, but I ran the entire distance. Right then and there, I was totally consumed by running. The feeling I get from running is not anything that I've felt before.
So, I started planning to run a half marathon. I ran my first half in March, 2011. I think my time was somewhere around 2:15. Since that time I have run 10 half marathons. I started training to run the full distance on August 1st of this year, as part of an 18 week training program. I was going to run my first marathon on Dec. 4th, but I signed up for this one on a whim, with a friend.
It has been unseasonably warm here for about the past 2 weeks. It wasn't any different yesterday for the marathon. It was about 65 starting out and ended the day at 82. It was humid and VERY windy. The wind pushed against me for the entire first half, but helped me through the last half as it pushed on my back.
I never hit the wall, I guess I never really have. I did feel very tired, and the worst part was pushing past the voice that kept telling me to just walk for a while. There were terrific water stations, because the marathon had a contest for $1000 for whoever had the best station. There were 10 of them in total, so I never got thirsty. The gu's and shot bloks, etc., upset my stomach, I've been told primarily b/c of the vitamins they contain. So, I carry oreo cookies on really long runs. They work great and don't make me sick. I looked back at my weight from a year ago and I weighed 177.8 on Nov. 13th of 2010. This year, 131.8. A difference of 46 lbs. Don't ever give up and always look for the bigger picture. I can eat more and enjoy life more due to exercise.
Thank you to everyone who has been so supportive of my weightloss and goals. I greatly appreciate it.
