Default What are ways to exercise without equipment?

Hi All;

I'm trying to lose weight. I'm only 22 years old and it's hard for me to go to a gym or to buy exercise equipment to exercise in the house. The only thing really holding me back from going on a diet is exercise because i know it's hard to lose weight without exercise. Could someone help me?

Regards
Wingmark

Weight loss is mostly food, not exercise.

That said, try running or walking.

I have been running - I love it b/c I can do it anywhere and all I need are my sneaks.

You can do body weight exercises: Push ups, crunches, lunges, squats.

Turn on music and dance!

Walking even a mile a day is suppose to be great. I am currently doing a Walk at Home dvd that makes me break a good sweat. The dvd only costs about $10. That being said, there is a thread somewhere on this board that discuss the Walk at Home dvds.

Good Luck!!

Yes weight loss is more about diet than exercise. I have had friends eat junk and work their butts off and only lost a few pounds at most, but then people I see who eat healthy with minimal exercise continue to drop

That being said running and walking are free, so is swimming if you have a pool

If you have on demand the freezone has free workout videos also.

I had a gym membership and hated it so just got a used treadmill on craigslist for $100 and have been happy with that and my exercise videos ever since!

craig's list and goodwill are great places to find used equipment. it's amazing how many people get rid of their weight bench, free weights, or other things. set of 3 resistance bands is 15 bucks at walmart.

Workout videos are amazing and such an improvement from what they used to be. I find I got the best results from Jillian Michaels videos, especially the 30 day shred. I'm also going to try Jackie Warners videos, I've heard amazing things!!! Most videos will just have moves that use your body's weight as resistance. Some may need equipment but usually just small hand weights and it will say on the case if you need equipment. This months Fitness magazine has a list of the best videos for different categories like abs, yoga, total body trim etc. I want to get all the videos

Workout videos are great and you can also find free YouTube clips for Pilates and yoga sequences to incorporate into your routine.

Several other people have posted this similar question in the last month or so, so you can peruse through the Exercise forum for other threads with helpful responses to creating a home workout routine.

there are tons of options out there for exercising without weights. you could do push ups, sit ups, the many types of lunges, crunches, the many types of squats, yoga, pilates, tai chi, running, power walking, jumping jacks, pull ups, the many types of kicks, punches, calf-raises, leg raises, dips, exercise videoes, dancing, burpees, jumps, planks, mountain climbers, etc. if you need help there are tons of pre-made workout plans out there and many exercise videoes show you how to build your workout for maximum results.

I agree - walking! I use to walk at the HS track, but now I walk downtown - 4x's around a city block is a mile -& I'm working to get to a 20 minute mile. My downtown has several blocks with slight inclines that add to my workout.
I also found a group of dancers on YouTUbe - I've been line dancing with them, fun & a great workout too!
Search for Electric Slide and look for a group called Step in the Name of Life
