Default HIIT training - anyone want to join me?

Hi everyone!

I have just finished my first HIIT (high intensity interval training) workout, and boah I am so tired!

I have been running for about two years, and run about 10km three times a week normally, and did a half marathon in april (allbeit incredibly slowly!). I felt like I'd got into a running rut and heard HIIT is meant to be good for burning fat quickly, so thought i'd give it a try.

I downloaded a podcast from Itunes and the basic set up is:
5min warm up
15 sec all out sprint
1 min slow jog
30 sec sprint
1 min slow jog
45 sec sprint
1 min slow jog
1 min sprint

and then back down the pyramid again with a 5 min cool down at the end

I could keep up on the upwards pyramid, but coming back down I reduced my slow jogs to walks to recover in enough time!

I got some strange looks in the park but I feel exhausted like never before after running (I normally take it pretty chill and use the time to think).

I wondered if anyone would like to join me and create a little HIIT group?

enjoy your evening!

Claire

ps: I am trying to lose about 12lbs (5kg roughly), so am going to combine HIIT with swimming once a week and a longer run (10k ish) - and a low sugar, no carbs in the evening diet.

I love HIIT!! It isn't part of my working plan right now, but I'm sure I'll go back to it again. I'm doing more endurance training right now so I too can maybe run a 10 K. Right now I run regular 5K's.

I've never seen it done with a pyramid before. I've done 20-30 seconds all out with 60-90 seconds recovery for about 12-20 minutes. It is an awesome workout and leaves you far more exhausted than one would ever think without actually trying it!

Yay another HIIT fan! I'll let you know how I get on with it!

Today it is raining here (in Vienna), so I am going to go swimming but I'll do HIIT again tomorrow I hope! I love the way the whole workout lasts 30mins door to door, with warm up and cool down. Normally I am out of the house for at least an hour, and don't feel anywhere near as exhausted as I do with HIIT.

I'm working out with a couple friends who are training for a tri. and most of our training is HIIT. Monday was running sprints for 1/2 mile, then rest for 2 mins repeat 4 times, then we did a bridge run - .3mile up, over, back repeat.

Today was biking - sprint on the bike for 5 light posts, rest and slow ride for 10 light posts for 3 miles then back.

I'm just along for the ride. (so to speak). My friend is organizing the training and for me, its something that gets me up and working out in the mornings. She has something she uses as a training guide that tells her what workouts to do on each day. I will try to get more info. So far it is alternating between running and biking. I doubt we'll do any swimming as that wouldn't fit into our schedules.

If you want to do a tri - I'd suggest getting into cycling a bit more.

Yeah I need to start cycling properly instead of meandering around. Luckily (maybe?) my boyfriend cycles and races a lot, so has offered to be my coach. Ahem. I sense a domestic coming up!
