Default Treadmill Desk

During a casual conversation this weekend my husband mentioned that it was a shame there was no way I could use my treadmill while I worked.

I am a nurse reviewer and I sit all day reviewing digital medical information.

When I looked on the web I found that a treadmill desk had already been designed by a physician at the Mayo Clinic. That desk and off shoots range in price from approx $500 to $5,000! Mine will make it a little trickier to use the controls but it is manageable.

I took a whack at building my own on Saturday but then DH came thru today with the version you see here. I think I spent about $50-60 total in materials. (It does still need one additional brace support).

The key is to walk slowly (1 mi/hr) while you work.

I had one set up for awhile using a reebok step and then all of a sudden I couldnt get it to go back on. I keep it off most of the time because I usually run. I need to get it going again, it was AWESOME.

I have one. That is how I lost a majority of my weight. I am not using it as much now. I am doing other things to tone up now and starting to run.

I don't have a treadmill desk at work, but I do have my desk set up so that I can stand at my computer as I work. I do this from 4 to 7 hours per workday (31 hours total last week). I think that being active in this way has been pretty critical in my weight-loss. Even standing and not walking burns twice the calories that sitting down does, and over the course of a day...a week...a month...a year...two years, for me now! it really adds up. And, doing all this NEAT (Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis) means that I can eat a lot more calories and still lose weight at a good pace.
