StuffedBunny - I increase/decrease the speed while on the treadmill and speed up as needed. I started at 5.0mph and just increased my speed by 0.1mph at a time until it felt "comfortable". I think that's my problem with treadmills. I'm stuck going x mph the whole time whereas I slow down slightly naturally when running outside when I need to and I think that helps me to recover faster and run longer/farther.

Back on topic... When I went from a treadmill to outside (aka the weather got marginally better) I didn't feel any more like a runner. Just relief that running outside was easier than everyone I knew made it out to be

ETA: I use an incline of 1% now (that's what's recommended to make the treadmill feel like "outside") but I started at 0 and worked up.

Since starting C25K I have been reading a lot about the 1% incline so it seems I am at least doing something right, lol. I found it easier with the incline then with it flat so I inclined on my second run-maybe I should have told that to the other runners I was speaking to, lol

OMG Eliana you are so munch more talented then me-If I did that I would fall on my face, lol I increase mine from my 3.0 walking to 4.5-5.0 running while walking on it. Something else I can't do very well is get off the belt and stand on the edges like you see them do on the biggest loser all the time-I tried a few times and almost landed on my ***, lol
My friend said the same thing! That's why I told you about both. I do it Biggest Loser style.

Yes, I use the suggested 1% incline to imitate outdoor running as suggested here on this site.

They are just being mean and downplaying your accomplishments. You do the same movements, actions, etc as one can do outside. This just works for you! Keep it up!! If you are running your a runner! If your walking your a walker!

I can totally sympathize with you on this. My brother in law and his GF are both runners. They have put together a group of runners. They do marathons all the time. I have been doing the C25K for about 2 weeks. I went from not being able to run for 15 sec to running 2 walking 2. I do it at home on my treadmill. I used to smoke so it is hard for me but I feel that I have come a long way in 2 weeks. I want to be able to run a 5k with my daughter who is 12 and on the track team. This really motivates me to give it my all. I tried to get advise from him about form and felt he was mocking me because I run/walk on a treadmill.

Don't let them get you down!! I decided it best just to ignore it and go at my own pace!!
