SGeranium- I'm doing the Seattle RnR too!!
I am still battling this rolled ankle from 4wks ago.
Invested too much time to stop now though so i am just pushing through.
What is your estimated finish time?
Maybe we will be in the same corral.

I now feel like a real runner!! LOL! Albeit a slow one. :D

I ran the full 5K today!! I walked three minutes toward the end and it took me 44 minutes to complete, but I did it! :carrot: Now I can work on speed, and I'm ok with that. I have the endurance and I really surprised myself.

RunnerChemist 05-18-2010 08:32 AM

Way to go Eliana! :celebrate: There's some confetti for you!

Loving Me 05-18-2010 08:41 AM

Well done Jane on your sub 30min 5K, that's amazing, I could only do that in my dreams.
Fatpants, you are an inspiration! I've just started reading your blog and other running blogs and I'm in awe of the work you put in and what you've achieved. I would LOVE to run a half marathon one day, but will stick with working on my first 5K for now lol.
I'm pleased to report though that again I beat my pb on the treadmill today and completed 5k in 37mins 34secs so knocked over 40secs off my previous pb. I think I'm starting to adapt to running a little faster without feeling like I'm going to die, so it seems I'm getting fitter! I just hope I can keep improving both on the treadmill and outside in time for my race. I know all the advice is that you shouldn't focus on a time for your first race, but I SO want to finish in under 40mins, which means I really have to run the whole way.

Yay fat pants!! That's amazing. I loved the detail of your blog post lol.

Congrats FP on finishing your HM - you're such an inspiration (I'm debating the merits of signing up for one... heh)

Loving Me - Congrats on your PB and definitely don't worry about time your first 5k. I will say... when you are in it and everyone else is running, you will find yourself pushing harder... adrenaline does wonders. The first 5k I did in april I think i shaved something like 2 minutes off my previous best 5k time... I didn't even think that was possible.

Way to go!!! :)

So, I kinda fell off the wagon with running. I just haven't felt like running. I had a week where I just didn't feel like exercising, so I didn't, but the next week I started right back up like it was nothing. This time, I STILL don't want to. It's been a week and a half. Last week I only ran 2.3 miles (kinda fast too, but that was IT.) I was active though, did some STing and playing disc golf and walked, but no long runs. I don't know what happened. I'm actually a little scared... I don't know where my motivation went.

This hasn't really happened to me before, and I'm not sure how to deal with it. My eating has been a little out of whack too. Luckily, I haven't gained any weight back (I don't think....)

Perhaps you ladies could give me a kick in the pants or something... I really need some support right now. =\

Oodles - I have to say (at the risk of sounding like a Nike ad) just do it. Or even just put your running clothes on. I often don't feel like going for a run but once I'm out there I'm into it and really enjoying it. It's just a matter of getting over the inertia and getting out the door. I know that once I start I'll feel great, and that what gets me to do it. I hope this is helpful.

Eliana - congrats on completing the 5k distance! I'm super impressed at your progress.

Had a fabulous, awesome run last night - transcendental experience, practically. Was just totally in the zone. There is a loop that starts near my front door that is about 1.2 miles. I usually do it 3 times, sometimes 3 and a bit. It's a challenging loop b/c of hills (blue ridge mountains, after all!) Last night was just feeling it and ran 4 times around the loop, at a consistent pace and in under an hour. Felt SO GREAT! After a run like this, I think about what made it so wonderful - what I had for lunch? The socks I was wearing? My playlist? LOL - I think I am becoming superstitious. Isn't it awesome when a great workout can redeem a not-great day? I was frustrated about a work situation, annoyed with some colleagues, and then - ahh, my glorious evening run!

Anyway, feeling motivating and planning for my next races - a 5k in August, a 4miler in Sept, and hopefully a 10k in Oct (still looking for one in my area to register for). May do a race in July when I'm up in Boston as well.

Well, I'm so happy to report a couple of firsts for me! One is that I did a 45 minute run without feeling like I was going to die. I kept myself from looking at my timer, and was surprised when the run was over. YAY!

Second, I finally got my new gadety HR and distance watch. Well, knock my socks off. Since I run primarily on a track, I really didn't know how fast or how far I was running-- only how long.

I haven't been on the treadmill in a couple of months, but I used to keep it around 4.3 to finish 30 minutes. Well, I took off running outside today and it turns out I was running quite a bit faster than that-- almost a 5.0 mph.

Crazy!

SGeranium 05-19-2010 06:08 PM

ubergirl: nice surprise !

Blue: Tuck away that memory for when you need a little something extra to get out the door.

Oodles: Sometimes I'm grateful to be back and sometimes I go back kicking and screaming but it's always good in the end.

Sznn: I can't remember exactly what I projected my time as. I estimated 12 minute miles so 2:45 maybe. I'll have to check. There are like 28,000 people. Crazy. My friend just ran the Vancouver half and had a blasty. She always says she likes running in Canada better because KM's are shorter ;).

I'm really feeling strong running wise the last week or two. I did an 8k over the weekend and even with a bunch of mistakes I ran a mile a minute faster than I usually do on a longer run. I'm feeling good about that. I'm working on giving up some of my dependence on running with my I pod as a distraction. I'm a little worried about managing my mental boredom on runs over 1.5 hours..... I get stuck mentally which the hard part for me.

Hey fellow runners!

I used to hate running and could only run for about 5 minutes at a time at 5 mph max. Now, I can go for 19 minutes at a time starting from 5.2 mph and increasing the speed every couple of minutes until I'm sprinting at 6.5 mph for a minute at the end. So usually I do a 4-5 minute brisk walk, run for 19 minutes, walk for 3, run for another 5 minutes, and cool down.

I love running now, it really makes me sweat, de-stresses me, and makes me feel awesome after. For the past few weeks I've been trying to run 3-4 times a week. HOWEVER, my shins started to hurt last week, and now they became increasingly more painful each time after I ran (I was icing them after as well). Today the pain got really bad after my run, and now I know I have to stop running to prevent further injury and start doing the elliptical, which is very frustrating.

EveLHaelf 05-22-2010 04:23 PM

My nine mile run was not outside due to SNOW....IN FRICKEN MAY! BAH! I ended up doing it on the treadmill. The stupid thing shuts off after an hour, and it was a pain in the *** to keep track but I did it! Feeling good. :D

momof5k 05-22-2010 04:50 PM

Snow?!? Really? That sucks!

I am in a rut. The only running I have done since my Mother's Day 10k was 2 miles on the hill setting on my treadmill the day before yesterday. What the?!?

I need to get back on track. I am thinking that maybe the fact that I haven't registered for another race yet is contributing to my lack of motivation. Better get on that...
