Hello ladies, just checking in. Lots of good news all around! congrats to everyone on their races and PR's, and big congrats to blueridgegirl for making it to onederland!!! you have earned it!

mk-really sorry to hear about the torn ligament. are you out of the bolderboulder? nevertheless, I hope you enjoy mexico!!!!

as for me...had my last long run today (10 miles) before my half marathon on Sunday....excited and nervous at the same time, but I kicked some serious butt on my run today so it gave me a much-needed confidence boost!!!

Congrats Pants for making it through training & now in taper mode before the half marathon. Sounds like you are well prepared. Keeping my fingers crossed for cool, dry weather for you. Can't wait to hear your story after the weekend. :)

mk- sorry about the ligament! What a bummer.... :(

Well I had one of those days where I didn't feel like running. So I didn't.... It was raining too, but still. I slept in till I had to start getting ready for class (11 AM!!!) Luckily I found this training plan which I'm really excited about. I'm already getting bored with running x-miles 3 times a week. Yay!

So, how long does it take to train for a half marathon? I'm starting to feel like I want to give it a whirl.

I also found a really cool sounding race in my area. It's a trail race, running on river trails. It's 5.7 miles for the short route, and there's a LOT of elevation variation. It seems really fun.. and dirty lol. It's in august, I can't wait!! And they serve beer after. I wonder if I can sneak one haha....

Eliana 05-11-2010 07:47 AM

Yeah for running!! W5d1 of C25K complete. :D

My only issue is that half way into the run I'm not thinking so clearly. I can not do math after running! I always either make a mistake or second guess myself on the timing of the runs. (Looking at the timer counting down on the treadmill, do I quit at 37, or was it 36? Crap! I have no idea! Did I start running too soon? I don't know what I did!) I need to write out specifically what time to do what in my notebook.

And then after running, I did arms and couldn't do the addition for adding free weights to the machine!! I thought running was supposed INCREASE oxygen to the brain!

blueridgegirl 05-11-2010 11:09 AM

momof5k - congrats on 10k! That's awesome.

eliana - I have the same problem with doing math when running. Trying to figure out pace, intervals, etc...I end up counting on my fingers and then laughing at myself WHILE running!

noodles - that race sounds really cool, like an awesome challenging route. River trails sound beautiful and sounds like there would be shade, too. Plus better on joints to run trails then on asphalt or sidewalk (or so I've been told).

FP - thanks! And congrats on your 10 miles! You are so ready for your half - I feel so priveleged to see how far you have come since we both starting posting together on the same threads almost a year ago!

mk - hope ligament injury recovery goes well - that's too bad. :(

Still in onederland and just enjoying that '1'.

EveLHaelf 05-11-2010 05:46 PM

fat- you are going to do amazing on your half! Good luck! We want lots of pics please, lol. What was the longest run your training plan had you do? I have 3 more weeks of building up mileage before I start tapering and my long run days say 9-10, 11-12 now where they used to just have a set number. It's driving me crazy! I like having a set number so I can't talk myself out of it at the end, lol.

Eliana- I had the same problem remembering when to start and stop running. I found a podcast for free online that goes along with the c25k program. They have ones with music or without that have someone that tells you when to start running and when to start walking. Majorly helped me. Maybe this will work for you, too?

blue- i'm still so stoked for you reaching onederland! You deserve it. Seeing that "1" just makes everything seem so much easier to accomplish. You'll be at goal in no time!

southofriver 05-11-2010 07:21 PM

Sorry to hear of your injury mk - what a pain! I hope you can still enjoy your break, even if you are less active.

Noodles, I like the sound of your race, mud and beer will be fun.

I went to the running club last week but was in a group for starters which turned out to be mostly talk and no running. Going again this week and hope to join a faster group and get a proper workout. Wish me luck.

Noodles: That is the program that I followed in training for my 1/4 marathon last weekend. I didn't follow it exactly all the time but used the basic structure. It worked just fine!

Fat Pants 05-12-2010 10:50 AM

THANKS so much for the encouragement, everyone! I am definitely feeling some nerves, but really excited... I can't wait to call myself a half marathoner!

Eve - I followed the Higdon novice HM plan, a little modified because my training started about 16 weeks instead of 12 weeks out. My longest run was 10 miles. It's a good one to get you to the finish line, maybe not running the entire way (I plan on taking walk breaks through the aid stations every 2 miles), but good enough for a first half. At any rate, it sounds like you have adequate long runs built in to your training plan which will get you easily across the finish line!

blue - WOW it has been a year, hasn't it! Seems like just yesterday we were doing the Memorial Day challenge! That's crazy to think about. I will be thinking of you ladies for sure during the race!

oodles - I started training in January after a year of consistent running and a few races under my belt. If I could do it over again, I would certainly have my base mileage at 6 miles, meaning I would run 6 miles twice a week and do one long run once a week. I used the Higdon plan 10k for my first 10k and it's a good one. In fact, I really like his plans. I will probably move on to his intermediate plan for my next HM.

I had a cracking 3 mile run today. It was my first run after my 10K last Sunday and I felt really fresh - nothing hurt and I decided to just go for it instead of holding back.

I beat 2 of my own PRs - I went from a PR of 26.41 for a 3 mile run to an amazing 26.08!!!

And my best mile went from 8.22 to 8.20 - OK so only 2 secs off, but I haven't even come close to that 8.22 since Christmas, let alone beating it.

So I am pretty chuffed.

Times:
8.59
8.49
8.20

momof5k 05-13-2010 05:40 PM

Robsia: Those are excellent times! In my dreams. Congrats!

ubergirl 05-13-2010 11:02 PM

Wow, everybody here is doing so great that I feel like a wimp in comparison, but I'm happy to report that I just did my longest ever run-- 45 straight minutes. Still running on an indoor track because I can only get time at night after littlest has gone to bed. I'm also still waiting on my new Garmin watch which will at least tell me how far I'm going in 45 minutes.

I'm so bummed because this weekend was going to be my first 5K, but I have to work, and my daughter is going to run it. Oh well.

Everyone is doing amazing, you should all be so proud of yourselves.
My last run outside was last Saturday but I've been treadmill running twice since then. On Tuesday I did 5k in 38mins 35secs running the whole time, with a low speed of 7.6kph and a high of 8.5kph I think it was.
Yesterday I saw my instructor at the gym who added in a .5% incline and put my low speed to 7.7kph. The incline really kicked my butt and by the time I got to 28mins I think it was I was totally exhausted so slowed to a walk for 2mins, then sped back up again to a run. The fastest I ran this time was 9kph for a couple of mins at the end I think, but you know what? Even with walking for 2mins I actually did 5k in the exact same time as Tuesday 38mins 35secs!!! So while I was annoyed at myself that I had to walk some, I'm really happy I still did the same time and distance overall.
I've decided to stick with the 7.7kph but just add in the incline for a few mins at a time until I improve some and see how that goes.
Trying to decide now whether to go swimming today, which I should do as I ran yesterday, or go for an outside run. I should have a long gym workout tomorrow which includes a treadmill run, so that would mean running 3 days in a row which I'm not sure about, but swimming really bores me at the moment and if I run I can get it done this morning whereas I can't go swimming ti afternoon.

Just got back from my outside run for the week and the feeling when I get back is SO good each time. I am ALWAYS scared before I go that I can't do it, wish I could get rid of that feeling.
Today I ran/walked 5.48k in 45mins 23secs and did 5k in 41mins 16secs which is 15secs faster than last week!!!! I absolutely adore my new Garmin 110 watch. Now I really know how it works it helped me so much today to keep my pace steadier and know from my heart rate when it was time to walk for a minute or so. And I remembered advice I've read on here about hills and rather than walking them all or trying to run up a full hill, I just picked a point like a lamp post and pushed myself to run to that, then walked the rest, and it meant my heart rate didn't get chance to go sky high and have me gasping for air.
Today I ran approx 34mins in total and walked approx 11mins in total, which means I ran about 75% of the distance. Last week I only ran about 60% of the distance so I'm absolutely buzzing with today's run!
If I could just get over the awful nerves and lack of confidence in myself I feel before every run I think I'd be running on air lol.
