So we live right by the Flyers skate zone and since we live in that town we get free admission to public skating on the weekends. I used to ice skate a lot in high school with my friends on the weekends and even during the week in the summer. But Ive only gone a few times now and then since then. But now that we have free admission Ive been going for the past 3 sundays with my bf (he plays hockey so hes always up for it). I believe skating burns a lot of calories and I can do it for an hour without getting tired. I had him time me to see how long it took me to do a lap and I made it all the way around in 31 seconds! I was very pleased with that! Ive substituted my saturday morning workout with ice skating and I think Im going to keep doing this, atleast until we move or they start charging for admission. Since its starting to get warmer the crowds are getting smaller and smaller which is nice. So I thought I'd share in case anyone was looking for some alternative exercises!
Ice skating is a skill I used to have and somehow unlearned, and I'm in no hurry to get it back... but I have been roller skating lately in addition to my workouts, and I love it! It's similar to ice skating in terms of a workout, and like you said, so much fun.
I am terrible at roller blading! lol For whatever reason I just cant do it! I'm still hoping to get a pair so I can go skating with my boyfriend but Im not really in a hurry for it :-/ hahah
I can't roller blade at all either. I actually went ice skating for the first time a few weeks ago with my boy friend. I was always scared to give it a try because I thought I was too heavy for it. Anyway, since I had lost some weight I decided it would be fun to try. I fell one time when I first stepped on to the ice. After that I was skating well for a beginner. I skated for about two hours, and I didn't fall again. It felt great to be able to do it. Definitely a personal NSV.
Have fun ice skating! It's awesome you get in for free. I had to pay $10.
I love ice skating! My boyfriend's little sister is an ice skater, so she's always down to go to the rink. It doesn't feel like a workout, and I can tell the only reason I'm not sweating is because of how cold it is.
It's just a bummer how expensive it is here (11 bucks including skate rentals.) You're so lucky it's free! Use it to your advantage lol
