Did anyone read this? re: how much exercise women need to keep the flab off as they age — and it's a lot

Apparently I've got to step it up!

I heard that too!

I especially like this quote "If it were easy to be skinny, we would all be skinny"

This line ...
even more exercise is called for to avoid gaining weight without eating less, the study results suggest
... saves us. Because 3FCers are learning to eat better ... right?

I'm not sure about those "inevitabilities about aging". I don't think they are inevitable for folks who eat right, build a little muscle mass etc.

Maybe I misread something....but the women in the study worked out but didn't "diet," which means were NOT watching what they ate, right?

My understanding was that they're not eating less. They may just be eating healthy foods, and not changing current eating habits. We need fewer calories as we age, we lose bone mass and it's a lot harder to shift weight. I think that's one of the reasons it's so important to instill healthy habits re: food and exercise in kids early on. I know a lot of women who weren't active at all growing up, but were able to keep a relatively slim figure, until they hit their 30s. Now it's a big struggle for them to keep their weight down.
