Fatpants- I am facing the same problems with the weather. So I have been using the TM but that drives me INSANE with the cardio equipment "time limits". You look awesome BTW.

I agree, the time limits are ridiculous. Do you have them all the time, or only if there is a wait for the TM? If I go early in the afternoon or post-6:30pm, it's not too crowded so I don't have to give up the TM after 30 minutes. I managed to run 3.5 yesterday on the TM... felt pretty good. Today I'm going out for 7 miles, winter be damned! ;) I'm starting to look for new shoes. Does anyone have Mizunos? They keep getting good reviews. My running store carries about 5 or 6 models of Mizunos that I might try out one of these days. |

Good for you on your sub-11mm pace!! |
Fat-- i run in mizunos.. They are great. they are awesome. They feel like someone at the mizuno factory has genetically identical feet to my own. LIKE.A.GLOVE
The one thing about mizunos (or at least the model(s) i wear--- nuetral, performance--- is that they tend to wear out fast(er) than heavily cushioned and padded "other" brands-- ie; you can get 400+ miles outta some other brands, but i found i had to replace mizunos every 300 miles or so. I got around this problem by having multiple pairs of shoes that i rotate. This gives them time to rebound between runs and i get more life out of them.....But iw as loggin so many miles whats the difference between replacing them this week or next week kind of thing..... |
Hey Fat: I got Mizuno last week at the Boulder Running Company. Mizuno Nirvana 6. I think they are the latest model. :) I love them! My knee pain is a little better and I swear I can run further and faster without feeling as tired. I wouldn't know about the wearing out factor, though, since these are my first Mizunos. I usually wear a size 8 but had to go up 1/2 size. I read reviews on Zappos (I think it was Zappos) and a couple of people said they had to go up 1/2 size too.
Keep us posted on what you get! New shoes are fun. Pam |
Excellent, thanks for the reviews, ladies. MK I thought I had remembered you switching to Mizunos last year. MileHighMama, good to know about your knee pain feeling better. Wonder if it will help with my knee/hip as well. I think I'll take a gander down to Boulder Running tomorrow or Thursday and try some on. I'm giving up refined sugar for Lent (this may push me over the edge into insanity) and I thought treating myself to new shoes once the 40 days are over is a nice motivation.
I have a question for everyone. Say you go out for a long run on your training plan, and the run just is downright terrible. Like, you finish the mileage but it really wasn't a good run. Do you repeat the long run and try to have a better go at it for another week, or do you continue on with upping your mileage the next week? |
up it. you DID it, so it counts...there are no qualifications on time, or enjoyability of run...your body was out there for the 2+ hours, or 90 minutes or however long, and that is what matters..... Besides fat, if im understanding what you are saying above in the thread..than you dont have TIME to be repeating weeks! GO for it......try and figure out WHY it might not have been the best run, so you can avoid it next time....look to nutrition first and formost--- maybe your baody is at the point where you need to start carbo loading a little the night before? Maybe you need to start carrying nutrition on your runs? maybe you need to back off the running/training in the couple days leading up to the long run so you are refeshed and ready to go for the long run....get more sleep the night before? Start it earlier so you arent stressed about how long its takeing. Idont know....

Good things to think about, MK. I ran 7 miles today and it was so-so. I ran day before so it probably was not wise to run twice in a row, even if my previous run was only 3.5 miles. I ate lunch at 11:00 and ran at 3:00 so a four hour difference...probably should have snacked around 1:30. I think those two are the biggest factors as to why I wanted to curl up and die about mile 4 today...
|
curl up and die after four miles that's my line ;). FAt you look fantastic. keep havin fun
I had a fun three miler today on the TM after spin class. This is how I know that my self imposed boundary is all in my head. I can run 3-4 miles after a hard spin class once or twice a week and have fun doing it. I'm lame , but I 'll keep workin at it. The original half marathon that dh and I looked at isn't going to work for us. Too many complications. I'm just running in the mean time trying to find a race that will work for us. I hope we don't have to separate. |
Fats - If there is no wait on the TM i can keep going but they are "set" for 30 minutes and it pisses me off for the run to be broken up. A-NNOY-ING. But hey what whatever. As for the runs. I myself would repeat because that is just me. But if I was in the time crunch you are in I would not. I like to feel confident about my run but if time doesn't allow oh well, keep on trucking.
Mk I want to fitted for some mizunos. I think i will set up an appt at my local running store, which is 40 minutes away. Oh well. How have you been doing lady? I am running outside today since the gym is pissing me off and there is no snow out. I am gonna go for it. Wish me luck. I am only aiming for 7 today. ANything is better than none though;) |
Thanks everyone for inquiring as to my wellfare... :)
Im good. I literally have not run ONE STEP since the Phoenix marathon. I HAVE NOT exercised at all..... Next week i do my "re-feed" I am basically going to binge for everymeal, everyday for a week. Eat whatEVER i want!! :) I am excited. I will definitely gain weight next week. Thats alright. Im supposed to. Most will be water weight, maybe even a pound or two of fat. This is going to be great for my body, for me to be in a HUGE surplus. I will get the weight off...no biggy. I will feel fat for a couple weeks, but thats ok. to all you obssessive exercisers out there-- (me included) if you stop running/exercising you will NOT GAIN WEIGHT. ive LOST weight by taking this past month off.......i have to be more dilligent about diet, but still.....FYI for those of you who are SCARED to take recovery days, or weeks..... |
I miscalculated my route and turned out to be only 6-1/2 but it was a great run, I truly enjoyed. I haven't had that in a while. Anyway just checking in.
|
Lookin forward to getting my run back on...... :)
starting next week, maybe? 2-3X a week. Need to SLOWLY build my base back up. More concerned with doing strength training at the moment, as soon as i can. i feel PUNY lately...... |
Fatpants - Sorry I'm late on this but I agree with the others and keep on your plan if you're completing the mileage. There are always going to be those crappy run days. ;)
mkroyer - Just wanted to say I think you're signature is awesome! My recap - The last two runs have been great for me. Getting in a sub 11 min/mi pace which is fast for me. I KNOW that running consistently helps me improve so much and that's what's happening here since re-vamping my training plan. I have a 5K not this Saturday but next that I'm really looking forward to. :carrot: |
Fat: I'd say stick to your plan even if the run was lousy. You did it and can and should keep progressing. We all have some runs that are better than others, and can't explain why but it does sound like you were running low on fuel. So you posted your Q on Tuesday. What did you end up doing and how did it go?
I have my own question. In light of my knee pain I have been trying to run only every other day 3.5-4M three days a week and 5.5-6M one day a week. Pain seems to be getting better, which I attribute mostly to my new shoes and rolling out my IT band with a foam roller. Is it smart to stick to every other day for a while at this milesage or should I start increasing. I'd like to do a half-marathon this summer but haven't committed to anything yet. MK: Interesting how you have managed to drop weight after holding back on workouts. Why do you think? Less water retention in muscles? Not as hungry due to lower calorie burn? Regardless, that's great news, reassuring. Pam |
