Default Wii Active and work.

Yeah my very first post!

What are your thoughts.

I use to go to the gym for 1 hour 5 days a week. Then i got my wii actived the day it came out. I love it! it makes me hurt way more then the gym ever did. But here is the question. I do it 5 days a week, on the highest intensity, but here is the problem. Its only for 30mins. Is this enough?

Next issue...

I work a desk job m-f 5 days a week. Then i have a second job at addition elle(plus size clothing store) I work there wed, friday nights all day sat and sunday. Would you consider this part of your exercise? On a four hour shift i only sit down for 15mins, on a half hour shift i only sit down for 30 mins.

Personally I wouldn't count any of your work time as exercise. It's obviously going to burn more calories than your day job, but it's also the baseline your body is already using to maintain your current weight.

I would not consider it part of your exercise unless you were doing something like unloading a truck without the use of a dolly or hand truck.

Yes it will burn more calories but it is not quite the same thing as exercise.

I am doing alot of work around my house, carrying/moving lots of rocks, bricks, and lumber. I mentioned it to my trainer and she was about to do the whole .. "that is not a work out speech" and I cut her off saying that I knew it wasn't a work out but it does burn more calories than sitting in front of my computer. So, I consider it as staying active. I'm active for x number of hours and I exercise for y number of hours and I sleep or am seditary z number of hours a day. That is how I break it down.

I think only you can tell if what you are doing is enough exercise. If you are continuing to lose weight and able to reach your goals doing what you are doing currently, then it's enough. If you are having trouble losing weight at the current activity level then you should do more (or eat less).

I see these questions a lot here and other forums I read where someone asks, "I did 'x' today, do you think I can skip working out"? If I feel this way about the workout--that it's something not fun/pleasant and something to be avoided when possible--I try to find some other activity I enjoy that keeps me active. In that way I can make an active lifestyle a part of my life and that will ultimately help me achieve my weight goal and maintain it.

So you enjoy that Wii active, eh? What do you like about it?

I've unlocked most of the Wii fit. I'm seem to be playing on it now, more then working out.

I would agree that your work doesn't count as your exercize... after all, you've been doing it all along. I think part of the point of the exercize is to increase your metabolism/calorie burn from your starting baseline. That baseline included your job.

I too have been using the Wii Active for the last few days (been too hot to go out walking). I like it. It uses the interval training concept to mix up cardio and toning. The only thing about it I don't like so far is that I need a bigger living room to jog around in. I can't jog in place, it feels wrong.

I want a Wii so bad. My mom recently bought one for herself. We visited then a couple weeks ago, and as soon as we got out of the car, our 4 year old nephew (with a mild speech impediment) announced that "Grandma bought weed."

We kidded her all week.

There's one big downfall with the Wii system that can impede it's use as a fitness system. My husband learned (from tips from the nephews) to outwit the system. He's able to win the games with almost no physical effort at all. They all laughed at me, because when I played the game, I'd actually take steps toward the tv and throw my arm as if I was actually bowling.

I think as long as you're sure that you're actually truly working out (breaking a sweat, breathing hard....) I think it certainly can count.

I don't think there's a magic answer as to how much activity is enough and how much is optimal. You can experiment and see what happens. I think for some people their job IS enough exercise, but in this modern world, fewer than 1% of the population holds down that kind of job. Unless you have a job that's the equivalent of a migrant farm worker, working in the fields all day, you probably can't count on your job to be a significant part of your activity level (at least not if you're already reasonably fit). That being said, everything "counts" in the sense that every little bit helps. Taking the stairs instead of the elevator isn't going to make or break your weight loss/fitness plan, but it does add up.

I think ultimately everyone can only do the best they can, and watch the results. If the results are satisfactory, great - and if not you re-evaluate.

hi i used the wii personal trainer for about a week and realised that it was simply not enough, although i was sweating and doing more than i usually did it just wasnt hard hitting enough for me but would consider it for back up if i was too poorly for the gym...

i do about 40-45 mins a day working out and 10-15 mins weights its worked wonders and although im still far from my goal of not having wobbly bits i honestly dont think that a computer game would help me much..

why not up the anti a little and do some skipping once you have done that, although you may feel alittle silly it works wonders...
