Planning for a 5 miler tonight. And I guess i wil be getting bodyglide as well. I tried to get some of that running goo and they were all out except coffee which what you (MK) said not to get. I am not even really up to running today but heh got to get it in even when I don't want to. Also I think I need "real deal" running gear cause I am getting scratches from tags and little scabs from where I have rubbed and blister on my bood fro m the seam of my sports bra...i mean WTF> I have to break down and non cotton workout clothes....
TC - I am glad you remembered that you are scaling back. Sounds like you had a great workout.
Candice - When I first started running (first couple weeks or so) I gained a lb or two but then they started falling off. But then after a while (like TC) I was like stupid hungry and I just didn't move up or down on the scale. It took a while for me to get the eating portion under control again. BUt I have broken thru and started losing again.
Fatpants - I hope you have a good run!!!!
MK - you never cease to amaze me!!!!

CAkebatter--unless something really bothers me, i just buy one thing at a time, you know?? and i HATE buyiong new runnign apparell....even if its supposedly a good product, 95% of the time it the product will annoy the crap out of me...sometimes i can figure out just trying it on thats its gonna piss me off, but sometimes i buy it and it doesnt piss me off tilli RUN in it!! Hence, i have a drawer full of really nice, never really used running gear that has been demoted to "gym wear" or worse...PAJAMA wear!! I have some pretty expensive bras, underwear and under armour shorts, even a 50 dollar REI tank that are all just glorified 'jammers' If something bothers you definitelty replace it, but to be honest, the best seamless running bras i ever got were from targert, and they were only like 15 bucks! However, as you may be able to tell from my photos, i dont have much, eh hem, going ON up there!
Also, i think its more important for you Cakebatter to have SOME running goo, ANY running goo, even if its coffee flavored, if thats all they have....its better then NOTHING...your body will need it the longer you are out there running...you will notice a difference too during those middle and end miles......the cofee isnt SO bad, just the aftertaset, IMHO...make sure you follow it with water, or a piece of sugarfree gum (i just recently discovered this trick myslef!!) apparently i CAN chew gum and run at the same time
I've been lurking off/on for a while now. I have to chime in on the gum issue. I HAVE to have gum to run. If I don't have have total cotton mouth after the first mile. I'm not always chewing. Sometimes it is just in there until my mouth dries out again.
Okay Ladies I did a shameful thing yesterday. I went in planning on a 5 miler and did a 4. Even though I have been running OVER 5 or 6 miles for MONTHS (like 4) I still end up the sore with tight muscles the next day after running over 5. So I have a WI today and didn't want to be retaining fluid due to muscle repair so I whimped out and stopped at 4 and after WW I will due a 6. But dang I felt terrible about it. On the bright side I believe i will actually break 170...WOOT WOOT
Dancer - thanks for the tip.
Zinke - I agree I need the gum too. If I run more than a couple miles w/out gum I have cotton mouth like was an actor from Half-Baked and my breathe is rancid. So I always brush my teeth at gym during my shower (or home) due due to the "SpongeBob, Am I ugly breath".
MK - Okay okay I PROMISE I will get whatever they have before my long run this weekend. Also I guess I wil buy one thing at a time and see what works out I just don't want to spend a kazillion dollars ( i have a wedding to pay for...).
Cake don't feel bad, I also only ended up doing 4.5 yesterday. Mine wasn't due to weigh in but mostly because I was feeling tired (or lazy). I'm fighting off a cold right now and running just plain exhausts me! I think I was practically crawling up the stairs when I got home lol.
Haha I think I am the opposite - I LOVE buying new running apparel. It's been fun for me to go from wearing baggy mesh pants and an oversized t-shirt to those awesome tight running pants and tanks. The one thing I cannot run in though is shorts... my thighs are still too big and rub together. I suppose I could get some spandex or something to wear underneath, but since winter will be here before we know it, I might as well wait until next year.
Speaking of winter, I think I am going to buck it up and run outside during the winter. I'm dreading this, because my head tends to really hurt if my body is warm but the outside temp is cold. Anyone else have this problem? Maybe I will get lucky and we'll have a mild winter.... not likely.
Fat Pants - I love love love buying new things to wear as well it is just I was hoping to last a little longer before buying anything since we are little strapped for cash these days due to wedding plans ya know. I don't wear shorts either. I would like to but like you my thighs rub and that makes for a painful next day. WTG on 4.5 you did as much as you could handle. I guess with me I know I could do more and quit. Oh well today is a new day. Again congratulations on your run...you are doing great.
No running for me today. I have a nice sprain that has my ankle swollen. It's better than it was yesterday, but still super-tender. So I'll do some yoga or something that will allow me to work the ankle with everything else without all the jarring from running. If the swellign is down even more tomorrow, then I'll be at the park at least walking the C25K.
*sigh* I had found my groove, and lost it due to clutziness. Thus is the luck I married in to
Cake: I don't see the problem with doing 1 mile less. You ran! That's awesome!
Fat Pants: I am really excited to buy my first running apparel. I've been doing the "bad" thing and running in cotton shorts and yoga pants. But before my first 5k at the end of the month I am going to get one of those cute running skirts. I understand that have ones that go over running tights for the winter
I ran yesterday without pain!!! So thrilled. I still "felt" it a bit throughout the day but nothing during the run. I was supposed to ice every night at least but I totally forgot last night. Just fell into bed. Getting ready to go out again in about 5 minutes.
Cakebatter-- i dont understand why you would feel bad about *only* running 4 miles?? If you didnt feel up to running more than that was your body telling you to take it easier.... Sometimes the symptoms of being over trained or burnt out are not just physical...if your heart and head arent into then its prob best that you took an easy day!! If youre not into your run that day, than you are really only loggin "junk" miles, especially if its not a key run!!
Cake and crcossel - yep, apparel junkie would be a way to describe it! I used to run in yoga pants, crcossel, and wore them for quite awhile..they worked really well! I scored a pair of Saucony running pants for $25 from a running store a few weeks ago... LOVE them but I'm still like, gee $25 for pants? and that was on MAJOR sale! I think they were normally $60! When I was researching pants, I saw some for $115... I can't afford to blow that much money on running apparel. Usually my gear is the Wal-Mart special LOL.
The one thing I'll blow money on is shoes...but that's worth every penny.
crcossel, congrats on running without the pain!
Smee, hope your ankle heals up soon! Nothing more frustrating than to be taken down by an injury... no matter how you got it!
Thanks for the input. I am done whining for a couple weeks ladies
MK - Yeah maybe you are right about the "burn out"
Fatpants - Yea shoes are worth every penny. And I buy walmart active wear as well. Maybe I will move up to danskin instead of just plain ole cotton hehe
Can I join this group? You guys are a huge inspiration especially since I'm a really new runner.
Fatpants - thanks for the tip about shoes. Seems like the general consensus is if you're going to spend some $$ on running, do it on shoes.
I have my first 5k coming up on 09/26/09 and I just started a 5k training class last night. I did 3 miles in 38:20 on the elliptical/stairclimber thing at the gym and then did 2.15 miles in 32 minutes during my class last night. 5+ whole miles!!! I never thought I'd do 5 miles in a day before. I'm paying for it today, but damn, do I feel proud!
Thanks for listening everyone. I hope I can keep up in here!
