1000 miles in 2009!
In 2008, several of us ran in a 500 miles by Christmas challenge. Some of us got there (and then some---looking at you: Jo, Kitty, & Jenguin!) and some of us reached a different goal (300, thank you very much!).
Now we are starting a new year and have a new goal! The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step....Are you IN??? This thread is open to everyone--if you are thinking of running 1000 miles by 12/31/2009...or 600....or walking 300...the idea is to move and track your mileage and have some fun along the way! Good luck to us all!!!! :carrot: |
i'm totally up for joining in on this! I have been slacking in my jogging and so I will track every mile JOGGED starting on the 1st :)
I'm in, I'm so excited. Thanks for starting the thread. Good Luck everyone!!!!!
I'd love to do this! My official goal for this year is 1000 miles, but I'm secretly hoping to get to 1500 if all goes well.
Count me in :)
didja know daaaays ago by lookin' at my spankin' new ticker?? ;) |
I'm in too!
Count me in! I want more incentive to rack up the miles.
I'm going for the 300 mile walk.
I'm in again, looking forward to an awesome 2009!
I've decided to start the New Year right with a run at midnight right as 2009 arrives. :) |
Welcome to all!
Kitty, I need to make a ticker. Jo, a NYE run at midnight? That sounds fun (cold....but fun!). I have a run scheduled New Year's Day, so I'll be right behind you. I was talking to DH last night about a good goal and we crunched some numbers. So, here's what some mileage might look like. Joyful, if you go for 1500, you are looking at about 29 miles a week. That's quite doable (and impressive)! 1000 miles = about 19 miles per week 800 miles = about 15.5 miles per week 700 miles = about 13.5 miles per week 300 miles = just under 8 miles per week I've been running about 10 (3-4 miles about 3 times) miles a week consistently. I would have to double that to reach 1000 miles, which I could do, but it would take more time than I currently have allocated to running. But this is supposed to be a challenge. I'm in for 800 miles in 2009. I think I can achieve it but it will take some work. Now, off to make a ticker!! |
I would love to join! My goal will be 500 miles in the form of walking, running, elliptical, and cycling at the gym.
I'm in! And I'm setting the goal of 1000 miles. It will be a bit of a stretch goal for me to do it, but I'm willing to give it my best shot!
I'm definitely in! I'll have to start keeping better track, but it's an awesome idea.
Hi! I'm definitely up for this. 1000 miles running or the closest I can get to it! I'm new by the way... what a way to start my 3FC experience. :)
Walk, run, jog ... 1000 miles? I'm in. I'll make a ticker in the morning.

~Thanks for letting me know about this thread, midwife :) 1/1 - off 1/2 - 1.25 1/3 1/4 1/5 1/6 1/7 1/8 |
I'm in. I just calculated what I have been jogging, and it would be a little over 1200 miles, but giving myself some days off, 1000 would be do-able.
I'm in, but I'm going to split the difference and say 750 miles.
Oh fun! I'm running 9 miles a week right at the moment, so with some increases in mileage as I improve, I might just make 500 miles for the year! I'm in. :)
I think I will change my 300 mile walk to a 500 mile combination of walking, elyptical, treadmill and running with the Wii Fit. Thanks for the idea Dollypie
I'm in! I'll add the ticker soon:carrot:
Bump!
my husband and I are doing this challenge kind of together too. Whoever gets the most miles by dec 31st.. or hits 1000 first wins and the loser has to be slave for a day on Jan1st hehe :)
Hes in the army and runs everyday.. so im def in for a challenge here! |
Are you guys ready????
Jo's gonna run at midnight! Anyone else that crazy----er, I mean, dedicated? There's a reason Jo will get to 1000 miles this year!!! I have a run planned for tomorrow! Woohoo! |
Cool! I'm in! I am training for a half marathon (my second) in May and I'm going to enter the lottery for the NYC full marathon as well.

Count me in! I'm a new runner so I'll have to walk/run the 1000 miles, but I'd love to try it! I biked 1500 miles in 2005! See you at the finish line!

ETA: I just read back and see that I may be able to count my elliptical for this after all... Mine tracks by revolution, not distance. Other than the optional GPS attachment that works with my Polar is there another way to track distance on the elliptical trainer? |
Well the GPS wouldnt do you any good. :)
What I used to do for xtraining "equivalent" miles is figure out how long it takes me at a "normal effort" to run 1 mile. Lets say for this example 10 minutes. Then if I elliptical for 10 minutes I count it as 1 mile. Since you just started running you will probably be changing "average mile" time fairly rapidly, but I would keep it simple. |
