Hi! Is it to late to join in?
I had been doing the monthly challenges through the fall but I think a long-term goal would be really useful. Based on what I have been doing, I think that I can do at least 750 miles in 2009. I ski in the winter so I am going to convert the vertical drop on the mountain times the number of runs to compute the distance to mileage. I hope that this works. I will also be doing running, biking, swimming, and who knows what else the New Year will bring!! ;) So far, I have done 14 miles between skiing, elliptical, & bike. I am going to go work on my ticker. :) Oh, you guys seem really dedicated and supportive so :thanks: in advance. |
Welcome, urockmom!

5 more miles for me today, definitely needed the yaktrax today it was icey but thankfully not extremely deathly cold just partly deathly cold so I survived.
|
Today was a yoga day so just 1.80 walking with the pups.
|
I got 3 walking miles in today. :) 2 treadmill on hill function and one jogging in place while watch TBL online :)

Welcome urockmom!
Jackie - I agree with biking and swimming for cross training activities. +5.2 today. I am going to have to be better about getting my weekend runs in than I have been if I want to meet my goal for the year! |
I got in 10 miles on the stationary bike tonight. That counts, right? I had to give my knees a break
|
Is it okay to count miles on my stationary bike in this challenge? I figured out the revolutions to miles on my elliptical trainer, I went out and ran again yesterday and got in 2.5 miles (1.7ish of running again), and on Monday I did 10 miles on my stationary bike. Though, if I include it I may want to up my goal... Hmm...
ETA: I didn't even see eryn76's post above me... Eryn, I say the stationary bike counts! :) |
4.5 miles!
|
wow! 1000 miles this year... i don't know if i could do it. at this point i'm lucky to get 1.5 miles on a treadmill. sad!
|
+ 3 =17.8!!
Great job everyone!! I am still impressed by those who use Yaktrax to run. I would seriously just stay under my comforter for 3 months if I needed to do that. I was complaining about 30 degrees today. Yes, I am a wimp. :brr: Eryn & Shannon, I think it's fine to count bicycling miles. In fact, I might do that this spring and summer and bump my goal to 1000 miles. Hi Lentilbean! I think 1000 miles is pretty crazy too but we have some incredible chickies who run that kind of mileage before lunch! Set a goal you think you can reach. On the first page of this thread, I broke down weekly mileage goals. If you can do 1.5 miles a day now, maybe aim for 400 miles for the year. Something that will push you to be consistent, but that is also achievable. |
I also can't imagine running in yaktrax, that's hardcore. Of course, here in Florida I'm still running in short sleeves and shorts (as I did this morning), so I'm spoiled. I pay for it in summer though.
I'm challenging myself to run 1000 miles (not counting biking or walking mileage) but I think each of us should choose the challenge that suits us and our personal goals! The important thing is just to stay motivated and reach for a bit of a stretch goal! And to support each other along the way... :carrot: Ran 5.28 miles this morning. 2009 Run Challenge miles: 27.32... only 972.68 to go! |
