i''ve tried to but not much here----definetly not a morning person--- but i bet if i didnt have a baby to care for i could manage it--- for now i'm just doing mine at night or in the evening--- evening works best for me like between 6 and 9 after that i'm too tired and exhausted that i can barely move afterwards-- but if i do it in the day time like when i'm not working since i work three days a week --- the other four days a week doing the workout earlier in the day makes me want to do more--- yeah i'm more energized and can go a lot longer--- i look forward to it all day and then when i start i dont want to quit--- but when i miss a day i hate myself for it and its even harder to do it the next day == but i persist----

I have done both. Up early to exercise and then exercising at the end of the day. I honestly dread both ways.

10 years ago it seemed like it was easier to get up early and exercise to get it out of the way and done. But in the last few years, it has made me very, very tired to get up early and work out. I mean early like 4:30 am to work out for an hour, get ready in an hour, and leave for work.

Now, I don't seem to be able to do that without getting very tired in the afternoon and crashing in the evening.

So I walk for about 40 minutes at lunch now in a park close to my office, and do another 30 minutes of elliptical once I get home. I can also work out the whole hour in the evening if I missed out on the lunch walk, but boy do I dread that. Counting down every minute until I get to 60.

It makes me more tired to exercise in the morning.

I mean, on the weekends or the rare day off, when I can sleep in until 7 or 8 and then exercise, I do... it's nice to get it done and out of the way! And sometimes I'll take a different bus so that I have to walk ~15 minutes to the bus and ~10 minutes to class.

But getting up at 5am or earlier doesn't agree with me, so I exercise when I get home from classes/work in the evening but before dinner... which ends up being 6pm-ish most nights.

I am not a morning person so getting up to workout early is not for me. I have a 2 yr old that gets up at 6:15-6:45 so I would have to get up really early to get it done.

I find for me that 1:00-1:30 is a great time for me to work out. My DS is napping and usually he naps for 2 hours so I know I have a nice block of time to get it done. If I cant do it then I do it after dinner.

I find that exercising in the am is better, you get it over with and then you have no excuses at the end of the day for why you cant...you alnost forget hat you have done it! The more you move around the better you will feel...lay around or site more you weill feel more tired! You go for it...you will notice a difference

I FINALLY got up this morning at 5:30 and got through a 30 minute treadmill workout and some stretching. I've felt fabulous all day so far when normally I'd already be dragging!

It definitely makes me more energized, not less. It may take a little while for your body to adjust. Obviously if you suddenly get less sleep, that's the culprit, not the fact that you exercised.

Also, it just sets a precedent for the day. I find it much easier to fudge on things all day if I skipped exercising in the morning.

I have always been an afternoon-to-evening exerciser. In the morning I feel unfocused and weak; I can exercise, but I'm just going through the motions. In the afternoon or night I feel strong and capable and ready to really go for it.

I really think it's just a question of whether you're a morning person or a night person. Night people (like me and others posting here) don't do well with morning exercise, typically. But we kick booty in the afternoon or at night.

If morning exercise does work out for you, great. But if it doesn't work out for you, don't get upset over that. It's not for everyone. Just find another time that really does work for you; then become consistent. Consistency is the key to health benefits, not the time of day the activity is done.
