I go to 24 hr Fitness. I haven't had any issues with it whatsoever. There are plenty of machines, it only gets difficult right after everyone gets off from work, from about 5-8, when you might have to wait a couple minutes if you want a treadmill. It does have busy times, but if you pay attention and avoid those, which is not hard to do, you can easily get on the machines whenever you like. I really like how impersonal it is. Maybe for some that would be a dislike, but I enjoy being able to go workout and do whatever I like without anyone noticing, caring, or talking to me. I don't know much about the membership costs as mine is through my parents (it's so nice to be a kid sometimes) but I think that on the plan we have it runs about twenty-five bucks a month per person, which really isn't too bad at all.
I would definitely recommend it, although I know that the YMCA is also pretty darn nice as that's where we used to go before moving away. One advantage of at least the YMCAs near me are that they have full pools whereas the 24 hour fitness just has a couple of lanes.
