Default Fitbit -Garmin user questions

I have a couple of questions. I got a fitbit for xmas and I returned it because I THINK the garmin would be better for me.

The reason is I do alot of my exercise in the pool and the fitbit is not waterproof.

Then I had another concern with both of them. When I workout in the fitness center I'll bike a little and do the treadmill a little then I'll do the circuit....... how does it calculate your workout when you're doing arm exercises or just leg exercises?

Do they work if you are just working out one part of your body at a time?

Thanks in advance

Does anyone use their fitness tracker in the pool?

I'm really hoping you get some responses here. I'd love to have a waterproof tracker and would prefer a clip-on rather than a bracelet type.

I started off with the least expensive Misfit mostly because it was waterproof. The unit itself was OK but the bands and clips kept breaking and their customer service was a pain.

I switched to a fitbit (the clip on fitbit one) but don't wear it in the water. I don't get to the pool in the winter as much as I'd like but have conceeded that I just won't be able to wear a tracker when I'm swimming.

If you do end up with a garmin, I'd be interested to know how it works for you in the pool.

eta: I've read of people wearing a fitbit in the water but the website pretty clearly states it isn't for extended use in the water. I have just never wanted to chance it.
