I'm not from Michigan, and I know I'm new, but I have done this, as was instructed by my doctor. At least I think I've done what you aretalking about. It was a clinic run by dr's, in a hospital. It was disapointing at best. Of course, this situation will change depending on where you go. Not everyone will act like my dietician/councelor did.

My dr in the clinic was condesending and would talk down to me. I mean, I know I'm young but I'm not stupid. The first meeting was...decent, but every meeting after that she just checked my food log, checked my weight, and said I could go. I'd ask her a question and she'd kind of give me the run around and tell me to do what I thought was best. If I were doing that, I wouldn't have had the question in the first place. After a few visits I just stopped going. I didn't actually lose any weight under her direction either. Matter of fact, I gained weight because I had little idea what I was doing and she wouldn't help me. Oh top of that, my insurance didn't pay for it as I was told they would, so it wasn't cheap. Maybe others have had better luck and I just got a bum dr.

Wow! Sounds like you got a really crummy deal! Let's hope not all weightloss clinics are like this. Just because they are doctors and 'know' more than you, doesn't mean that you deserve to be treated like that. You should have reported. Just my opinion of course...

Well...I'm not in MI, but I did find their website. Looks like a chain of diet docs - we have a couple out here in the Bay Area that have been in business for YEARS. (Dr. Alperin is the one who seems to advertise the most.) I'd be willing to bet that this 'Medical Weight Loss Clinic' is about the same as the medical diet chains I've come across - although I've never used one myself. You go in, get weighed, talk to a nurse or maybe even a doctor for a few minutes, they give you your pills for the week, and you're outta there. And no, most insurance companies will not pay for the visits, the prescriptions, or any tests that they decide to run on you.

Laura Fraser's book "Losing It" has an interesting chapter in which she visits two different diet doc offices. Worth a looksee IMO!

If you feel it necessary to obtain medical help - go see your personal physican and ask him or her what program they recommend, if any.
