Sensa? Appetite Suppresant
|
I saw a report about this on my local news last week. After thinking about it for a week, I ordered it yesterday. They have a 60 day return policy, so I thought I would give it a try--if no luck in about 4 to 6 weeks, it will be returned! One reason I decided to try it is because of the concept of it being sensory. Hopefully it will help me to eat less, which will help me to change my ways. I don't plan to look at it as a quick fix, but a tool to help me train my body to be satisfied with smaller portions. Hopefully it will work!

I just read a snippet about Sensa in an old NY Times article by Sanja Gupta.
It almost sounded promising until I got to this part... But there's reason to be skeptical. For starters, Hirsch's paper has not yet been peer-reviewed or published. What's more, he admits that he has not followed up with his subjects in the three years since he completed the trial to find out if they have kept the weight off. As anyone who has ever dieted knows, it's not losing the pounds that's hard — it's keeping them lost. Finally, Sensa costs $59 for a one-month supply. |
Sensa
Has anyone heard or tried this??
|
I've never heard of it but it looks like the theory is that the smell/taste of it will trigger fullness signals in the brain? I'm a bit dubious but if anyone has tried it, it would be interesting to see.
|
Has anyone tried this since its first posting?
|
Sensa on HSN???
I just saw a product called Sensa on HSN. Has anyone else heard of it or used it? I only watched for a few minutes but it looks like something you sprinkle on your food that's supposed to help with apetite. I was just wondering if it works.
|
It sounds interesting. There's nothing in it to hurt you, unlike most other diet products. I can't find any reviews online, I guess because it's so new. However, they claim to have 25 years of research and have tested it on over 4000 people.
The only thing that raises my eyebrows is that it costs around $35 a month to use, and you lose an average of under 5 pounds per month according to their official website. You don't have to change your diet or lifestyle, just sprinkle it on your food and you'll stop eating sooner so you cut calories. But you are paying $7 per pound lost. It would be cheaper to just count calories and stop eating when you reach your daily limit. However, that's more easily said than done for a lot of people, so maybe this can be used in conjunction with a healthier diet. Also, most people don't overeat due to hunger, they overeat due to boredom, stress, or other emotions. Sensa won't help in those instances. I'd be interested to hear experiences from people that have tried it. |
I saw it. I'm an infomercial junkie so I was ready to buy. I found reviews online and most people said that they were disappointed with the product. Im going to keep trying to lose the old fashioned way.
|
At first, all I found were blog reviews that weren't really reviews, they were more like advertisements and included affiliate links. If you visit the TrySensa.com website, you can create a forum account to read messages from current users. There are some people that say it doesn't work, but there seem to be more that are seeing results.
I think it works by affecting how you taste and smell food. The official info says it causes your brain to send signals to your stomach sooner to indicate you are full. It's up to you to quit eating at that point, and not just keep eating out of boredom, stress, etc. However, several people have commented that they felt they were losing interest in food. They felt full sooner, but also had less or no desire to snack between meals. I'm still reading their posts, but it sounds like it can work for some people. It might not work for everyone of course. It can be a little pricey if you buy month to month instead of a multi package. There are six different versions of Sensa, each marked by Month 1, Month 2, etc. The different months contain different 'tastants' and you have to change every month. The brain becomes accustomed to the tastants in one package after around 30 days and it stops working, so you have to move on. If anyone tries this, we'd love to hear your results :) |
I ordered mine from HSN. It's out for delivery tomorrow. I will let you know in a few days what I think of it.
|
I have been using Sensa for three month now and so has my wife. She gained 2 pounds the first month (Woman do this sometimes) and over all I lost 18 pounds and she lost 11 pounds. I think the stuff is great.
There is a free offer for one month now on some websites, i think they are affiliates and the free month is NOT on the main Sensa site. Do not take my word for it, look around, try the free month, it is only $4.95. How many spend 5X that every month on a gym membership they do not use!!! |
Thanks for the tip, MrKeith, and congrats on your progress!

Sensa
I bought Sensa from HSN on auto delivery. I have only been using it for 2 days. From the first time I used it, it worked right away. I was full after only a few bites of food but I kept eating thinking that it was just in my head. Finally, my stomach said, NO after 2 more bites. I didn't crave anything else for the rest of the night like I normally do. I am going to stick with it for as long as it takes.

Sensa
Has anyone tried Sensa yet? What were your results?
|
You might want to take a look at this:
http://www.thefitshack.com/2008/06/1...-it-wont-work/ Personally I don't think any supplements really work. |
Yes, I've already read that as well as several others. I was wanting to know if anyone here has tried it and what they thought of it.
|
I worked at a place that sold sensa and needless to say we had a lot of complaints that it did not work. If you don't reduce calories and increas exercise, sprinkling something on your food won't work.

Has anybody had any success with Sensa tastants? And are they safe?
|
Just checking to see if anyone is still using this product and if you think its worth the money? Portion control is my problem if I could get that under control I know I could be successful with weightloss.

Also Checking To See If Anyone Is Still Using The Product ??
Sounds Too Good To Be True!! |
Sensa?????
I was wondering if anybody has tried "Sensa"?.... I just saw an article on yahoo about sensa. I guess you would sprinkle the sensa on your food and it will prevent you from over eating; which i am completely guilty of.
Wondering if anybody knows or has tried it? |
I merged your thread with others. There is some feedback, not positive though about the product. Hope that helps you.

I tried Sensa back in November, when I began this weight loss journey. I lost 5 lbs the first week I used it, although I also made a major change in what I ate and the quantities I ate. I can't say that I ever got into the habit of using it regularly, but I think it's possible it did help me re-set my ability to regulate my portion sizes. Even though I stopped using it after the first week or so, I have kept going from there.
For me, a lot if it was the idea of trying to be more mindful about what I was eating. While Sensa doesn't tell you to follow any specific diet plan, I did find that I paid more attention what I was eating, and ultimately ended up using Fitday to track my food. I don't honestly know how much credit to give to Sensa - but it certainly did trigger me to start on this path. I still have a lot of it (I ordered a few months up front) and I think that it's possible I might try it again, when I feel like I'm struggling with staying on my weight loss plan. It worked to get me on track once, so why not try it again if/when I feel like I could use some help! The one thing I would caution is that the free trial is not really free - if you don't return the product within 30 days, you will get billed for full price. I think that's an issue with their marketing, but not necessarily with the product itself. Also, if you google, you may find a promo code - I used one and got 15% off my order. Overall, I don't think there is anything unhealthy about the product. I can't say that I swear by it or heartily recommend it or something like that because I didn't use it that long. And I don't think the product itself makes you lose weight - it still comes down to making good choices about the kinds of foods you eat and how much of it you eat. But I did find it helpful to get me to a place where I was making better choices and it's possible that others might too. |
Hi All,
I am actually writing a full product review of SENSA. I bought a 3 month supply of the product last week and am logging impressions, weight loss and changes in lifestyle and appetite. I was wondering if anyone had anything else they wanted me to look into? One thing I did notice immediately is that yes, I did feel full faster and was able to push my plate away from me. In addition, i have noticed that I am not craving sweets nearly as much as I have in the past. Then again, that could be due to the placebo effect. Major downfall so far: It looks really weird in resturants to take this shaker out of my purse. My family and friends know what I'm doing, but when i go on a date or am eating lunch with my work collegues I blow off their , "what the **** is that stuff" questions by saying..."Um...I'm doing a product review." That works for me because I often review products, but i don't know how well that would for anyone else. Some quick information on Hirsch's Study: Methods: Over a six-month period, the overweight or obese subjects sprinkled a variety of savory or sweet tastant crystals onto their food prior to mandiculation. Pre and post study weights were obtained and compared to one hundred nontreated controls. Results: One thousand four hundred and thirty-six patients (87.4% female, 12.6% male) with an average initial weight of 208 pounds, and BMI of 34.2, completed this study. The average weight loss was 30.5 pounds, 5.0 BMI, versus control of 2 pounds, 0.3 BMI (p < 0.05). It does make me a little skeptical that his study was not fully peer reviewed, but it does appear well controlled. So, we'll see. |

Sensa...does it work?
It sounds too good to be true and it probably is, but I was curious if anyone has tried it, just out of curiosity. Thanks!
|
Sensa?
Saw a blurb about Sensa and thought - Too good to be true!
Then I thought of that saying if it seems too good to be true, it probably is... Oh. I can't post links.... so google Sensa? So I thought I'd put it out there. Anyone tried it? It would address my problem for sure, but crystals telling the brain to stop eating?? Really?? Sigh. |
My Mother in law told me about it when she started using it a few months ago. I haven't heard anything since, so I doubt it works.
|
I just took a quick Google search, and my impression would be to stay very clear of this product. From what I've read - it's a big scam - and not an easy one to get out from under, because the "free trial" gives them your credit card number, and they keep billing and billing and billing.
If you're absolutely determined to try it - don't use a "real" credit card. Use one of those prefilled cards you can get from Walmart and other department stores. The kind that when the money is used up, the company can't get more from you. |
Rachel Ray just did a segment on this on her afternoon talk show (it was under the "human lab" section). She did a test on a bunch of weight loss things for some women that worked at a bakery to see if they worked. You might want to check this out on the RR talk show website, but basically, the gal who tried it said she didn't see any differences after trying it for a month. Rachel did add that the company says you must be on the program for 6 months though before seeing any real results. I guess it is based on some science that a neurologist had done? Sounds interesting, but I sure don't believe it.
Hope this helps! ;) |
I think the bigger worry with this, is the difficulty customers have had cancelling their order. The company kept sending them product and kept billing their credit card month after month, and the customers had trouble getting their money back, the company arguing that they had never properly cancelled their order.
These scams are not just about ineffecftive weight loss products anymore - it's about fraudulent and unethical credit card billing. Speaking from experience (not with weight loss products, but with other subscription services) it can be extremely difficult to cancel these "membership" and "free trial" deals. It can be left to your word against the companies as to whether you complied with the terms of the contract. Be careful. Once they get your credit card, debit card, checking account, or bank number, it can be very difficult to get them to stop charging that account. |
I always hear about people falling for these scams on dietsinreview.com. I like to look at the diets and their ratings, the ones with low ratings are the ones that have a ton of comments from people saying they've been scammed by the company. Sometimes people get confused and don't realize it's a diet review site and threaten to sue or try to cancel orders in the comments section.

I used Sensa - only for about a week because I kept forgetting to use it on my food but was still able to stay on plan without it. Did it really make me feel fuller on less food? I'm not sure, but for whatever reason, it served to jumpstart me on this journey and I've lost over 40 lbs since November - and even more importantly, I'm still on plan.
I do agree with the point about the not-really-free trial. That was the one negative I found when I researched it. Most people were generally satisfied with the product itself, and the criticism was only about the marketing practices. So I did not do a free trial - I did a one-time order with no renewals and I used a credit card that allows me to obtain a temporary card number that expires after the transaction, so even if they had tried to put another charge through, it would have been rejected. But as far as I know, that never happened. I just found something I posted a while back with a bit more detail http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/3102747-post25.html |
thanks for the infor.
|
StephanieM- thanks for the info about dietsinreview I had never heard of them.
