Hi All. Just wanting to say Happy Birthday to Meme. Hope you have a wonderful day.
|
Happy Birthday Meme!!!!!!!!!!
Hope you are doing something nice and fattening. BBQ was OK, but I figured out that I have moved from young to old there. I knew it was just around the corner, but this year there was no doubt. Worried about beer and it's effects. Ate the whole dinner including baked beans. Sat the whole time. I was on the side of the place where women wear elastic waist pants and sensible shoes. Saw a woman with the tightest pants in the world and felt her pain. HOw can women do that to themselves? She was my size in a pair of maybe size 12 jeans. Complete wedgie. Mammogram tomorrow. Fun. |
Thanks Anne...I'm 54...gonna have to stop having these birthdays...I'm getting too old!
Went out to dinner with daughter and family today. I'm going to church with my son tonight and we (son, daughter and I) are singing there tonight then back to his house for pizza. I had a hot fudge cake for dessert after lunch, too...I'm going to get back on my diet tomorrow... I hate feeling like this! Sweets and junk food always makes me hurt worse! Anyone else affected this way? I don't know what to do about the diet thing. WDW wasn't working too good for me the last time around...so...what now??? I know I usually FEEL better when I up the protien and cut back on the carbs and sugar. I think I need something more "structured"!!! I also think I need a "diet buddy"! What happened to Meshell? Wishing you all a pain free day!!! |
Thanks Ally...looks like we were both posting at the same time! Glad you were sensible and enjoyed the BBQ. I couldn't get a pair of 12 jeans zipped up!!!... I'd have to just leave part of me "hangin' out"!

I missed Meme's Birthday!
Happy belated BD and you sure don't look 54 but I bet you feel 94..I do!:D
Did any of my email go through to you Meme? I always feel worse when I eat suff that is not healthy! Meme Have you tried WW ever? This my first time on it been almost a year and I really like it! |
Thanks...and thanks for the balloons. I had a really good day. I just LOVE singing with my kids...we sang four songs at my son's church last night and it was so much fun. I always inject a little humor between songs so everyone is relaxed and smiling when we start singing...I have missed all that. We used to sing between ten and 15 songs at singings at least twice a month but haven't sang much together in the last ten or twelve years...maybe that will change now that I'm not tied down to having to play an instrument at church every single service. Now I'm FREE!!!
I don't FEEL free...I feel trapped in a pain racked body. We have huge lines of big time rain and thunder storms headed our way and one on top of us right now. Poor Sammy can't even get outside to poop! Candice...got the e-mail. You wouldn't believe the names I've gotten. Over 40 so far. I'm going to have to make TWO pages to get them all on. My daughter got me a certificate for an hour massage for my BD. I can't wait for that!!! There are several different "kinds"...I don't know which one to choose. Hubby got me a personal CD player (I ordered it off ubid but he intercepted it at the mail box and wouldn't give it to me...said he was paying for it and I couldn't have it until my BD. So he gave it to me yesterday (I'd about forgotton about it!) Mom gave me money...that's always a good gift!!! I'm giving myself a trip to NC next month...I'm still not sure if I'm going alone or not. My mom finally said she wasn't going (thank you Lord) but now hubby says he may go. I've found three hotels with indoor heated pools and suites so I'm going to wait another week to book just to make sure. I really need to lose about 15 pounds in the next month...before facing all those skinny relatives...any ideas??? Candice...can you do WW at home? I've done it before by going to the meetings and it worked pretty good (for awhile anyway!) but I can't go to meetings with the rugrats! |
a good reason for the pain in the legs!!
Hi ladies, happy birthday, meme. I think I lost my last post, because I can't see it.
it sounds like you had nice family gatherings, with sing alongs. In my family, we had professionally trained opera singers, so those of us with any/no voice, just kept quiet. But I do remember those that were talented, played the madolin and violin every time we got together Now the family has moved apart or lost the talented amongst us. Well, now that the results of the MRI are in, the new Rhumie feels vindicated, and said there is enough wrong with my lower back to cause the pain in the hips, buttocks and legs.and she is sure THIS pain is not fibromyalgia. I need to go to see a neuro-surgeon, not necessarily to operate, but to inject cortizone to relieve the nerve inflamation. I'm going to see what he might propose, but I'm scared of either. Well the new baby might be induced, because the Doctor has to go away!! Baby on demand!! Still leary about taking kiddies to see this stuff. I know the kids are acting up becasue, the little guy this morning was crying when mommy went to the obgyn. He said he was afraid mommy would not come back! So all this talk about going to the hospital and having the new baby, didn't make him more comfortable, it just gave him something else to worry about. Like I said, you never know what is in their little minds, no matter how truthful you are to them.I think he knows he's going to be displaced as the"baby" Have a good week ladies, Ally hope your son is doing fine, and Happy hope your daughter is doing great also. need to get off this thing, I already made potato salad and home made ravioli soup for DIL and kids.{not to eat together} so the hurt is still here!! BTW Meshell is on another thread/PICOS board the new little girl is going to be born next tues or wed, her name will be "analee" {sounds made up} toodle-de doo  |
Down right cold here!
So not much woking outside this week! My bones won't take it!
Meme..I have never been to a WW meeting I ordered the At Home program over the phone and you get phone support for questions and weigh ins. I would not have done it if I had to go the meetings! The toll # to order is 1-800-710-4663, you can ask them questions before you decide to order too! I get a lot of info and support on the puter too! Some areas will not let you order the at home program due to franchiseing conflicts, so then people have relatives order it for them in there area. Check it out!:) Glad you had a good BD!!!!! Toots..hope they can help your pain and it is nothing serious! I like the name Annalee:)...I have a cousin named Jannalee. Got a dental check up and cleaning today and will do some shopping which I hate! Meme..can't wait to see the list of Hunks! |
did I miss something?
Hey ladies, did I miss the hunk parade?
My vote is still with Brian. but it would be nice to "look" over the field, {HEHE} Well I have a crew taking some over grown bushes out so that you can see the house. Now I will have to design a front landscaping so that it looks better than it was. Over grown does nothing for the symetery of the house/land. Cnadice, could you come and help? Went for a screening of carotid artery;aorta, and leg BP. All to prevent a stroke. Worth the 99.00 because insurance does not pay for preventative medicine. They did'nt send me to the hospital right a way so I have to wait 10/15 days for the results. Imagine if they make you wait days and in the meantime, something bad happens? I have enough going on my "plate".{so to speak} Candice, I didn't know that WW does this stuff on the net? MAybe Ally and me could find appropiate gentlemen for some companionship on the net? NAAAAAA, not a good idea. |
Hi guys. Mammogram was painful as I have bigger mamms than ever but the good news is.......they don't weigh us anymore. Said that was the responsibility of the referring Doc so I am off the hook.
Oh, and the gram was negative... Meme...I did WW a long time ago and I liked the comraderie, even got used to weighing in public. Ironically I was a skinny little thing back then and THOUGHT I was fat. I NEVER would have guessed that I would weigh as much as I do right now. And feeling old? I got a lady kinda prickly talking about feeling old......I forget that not everyone understands what we mean when we say we feel old. Not in my head. In my body. And Meme, it is what we eat. I am back to the high fiber and if I steer clear of that sugar I do so much better. Also am working my way to decaf coffee. Have light coffee right now. The sad thing is it is not like if I do all these things I will run a marathon this summer. It just means that maybe I can get up in the morning without as much pain. Candice...How is the new computer? I am getting sick of this AOL. I have it free til October, so will have to make do. Tootie.....the thought of a gentleman caller sometimes seems painful too. Today I got my comfy shoes muddy so wore some regular one inch slip ons. And now every muscle and bone in my feet hurt and I know I won't be able to wear anything but sneakers tomorrow. If some guy wanted to go out I would have to wear slippers. |
I'm tired again!
The weather here is cold and rainey but I go out when I can. Made the best recipe last night for Tuna cakes from the new Taste of aHome cooking light magazine..oh they were so good! (parsnips were the special ingriedient)
Toots...we need to have our Yews in front of the house pulled out but hubby doesn't want to do it yet they are old big and ugly! Ally..the puter is working fine..it's the operator that is having the problems so my son tells me! Where's Meme???????????? Can't get into my email so don't know what she is up to! |

Where are you gals??????????????????My dog couldn't walk with me today cause her right front leg was hurting(the shoulder joint) she is 15 now and we don't know how much longer she will be with us. I sure missed here on my walk!
Ugly weather here! Cold rainey, and windy and the furnace came on last night! |
I have had a migraine every single day this week. I didn't teach any and am just barely surviving the Rugrats. Also, my arthritis and fibro are much worse. I called the Rheumatologist in Nashville and he called me back and said for me to go back on the Methotrexate. I dread that...it makes me sick to my stomach. I will start them tonight because I don't have the kids tomorrow...in case it makes me sick again. I have to take 8 of them at one time once a week. Also, I had tried to space the gold shots out to once a month instead of every 3 weeks and I'll have to go back to 3 wk. intervals now. I hate my body! I'm in so much pain I can't really concentrate on my diet. (One track mind you know!)...WHAT MIND??? BRAIN DEAD!!!

What's the difference in a Senior Member and a Senior Chickadee??? :?:

This was in the New York Times
It is an article posted in Clouds that I thought was worth reading. Phyllis already knows about the stuff.
Doctors are beginning to worry that Vioxx and Celebrex, two wildly popular arthritis drugs, may not be as safe as they were initially believed to be. Research presented to the Food and Drug Administration earlier this year showed that patients taking Vioxx, a Merck & Company drug, had a higher, but still relatively low, risk of heart attacks than patients taking an older pain reliever. The study received little public attention at the time, but the F.D.A. is considering whether to add information on possible cardiovascular side effects to both drugs' labels. Now Wall Street is becoming aware of the possible problems, with at least one analyst warning that the problem could particularly affect Merck. The two drugs, which cause fewer ulcers than many other pain relievers, are among the best-selling medicines in the world. And both Pharmacia, which makes Celebrex, and Merck are heavily dependent on the drugs for the sales growth that Wall Street expects. Celebrex is Pharmacia's biggest-selling drug, generating sales of $2.3 billion in the 12 months ending in March, according to IMS Health. Pfizer co-markets Celebrex with Pharmacia. Merck sold $1.7 billion of Vioxx in the same period, making it the company's second-biggest drug behind the cholesterol medicine Zocor. Millions of Americans have tried Vioxx or Celebrex, many of them prompted to request them from doctors after seeing television advertisements paid for by the two companies, which are locked in a fierce marketing battle. While the data is still limited, a large study sponsored by Merck last year showed that patients taking Vioxx had four times the risk of heart attacks of patients taking another pain reliever, naproxen, which is sold both generically and under the brand names Naprosyn or Aleve. The risk, which appears to increase over time, was still low, however, at about 4 heart attacks per 1,000 patients. Merck says the research does not show a problem with Vioxx. Instead, the company says, naproxen acted to reduce heart attacks by working much like aspirin. The information from Merck's study was presented to the Food and Drug Administration in February when the companies asked for changes on their drug labels to reflect data showing that Vioxx and Celebrex caused fewer ulcers than other pain relievers. In an April 27 report, Richard R. Stover, a pharmaceutical industry analyst at Arnhold & S. Bleichroeder Inc., did his own analysis of what he called "disturbing data" from Merck's study. In an interview, Mr. Stover said he was warning his clients, many of them institutional investors who hold Merck shares, that they should watch the issue carefully since it could hurt the company's stock price. Some doctors, however, say they are worried about both drugs. "There must be a warning," said Dr. M. Michael Wolfe, chief of the gastroenterology section at the Boston University School of Medicine and a member of the F.D.A. advisory committee that reviewed the issue earlier this year. "The marketing of these drugs is unbelievable," Dr. Wolfe added. "I'm sure there are many people out there who are taking these drugs that should not be." Several doctors say they are worried about the possibility of heart attacks because many of the arthritis patients taking the drugs are elderly and have a higher risk of cardiovascular problems to begin with. The current debate centers on whether the higher heart attack rate found in patients taking Vioxx is a result of the drug's actually causing damage in some patients or to an absence of the heart-protecting benefits that naproxen may have. Merck's scientists say that naproxen appears to help reduce heart attacks by stopping or slowing the production of a substance called thromboxane. Thromboxane is thought to cause platelets in the blood to stick together, leading to blood clots. "Naproxen had a similar antiplatelet effect to aspirin," said Dr. Eve E. Slater, senior vice president of external policy for Merck's research labs, "and those people had fewer heart attacks." Neither Vioxx nor Celebrex have been shown to have the same heart- protecting benefit. Dr. Slater also said that Mr. Stover's report was flawed and biased in favor of Pharmacia. But regulators and some doctors say they still worry that there may be more of a problem with Vioxx. And even if Vioxx and Celebrex do not damage the heart, the fact that they do not have the heart-protecting benefits of aspirin reduces the ability of the companies to market them as being significantly safer than other pain relievers. In letters sent to physicians involved in Vioxx clinical trials, Merck recommended last year that doctors consider prescribing low doses of aspirin to patients taking Vioxx if they are at high risk of heart attacks. But those low doses of aspirin could increase the risk of ulcers — the main side effect that both Vioxx and Celebrex were developed to avoid. The two drugs, known as Cox-2 inhibitors, have been shown to significantly reduce stomach ulcers compared with pain relievers like aspirin and ibuprofen. In rare cases, serious ulcers can lead to death. So far, no studies have been done to measure whether patients have fewer ulcers if they take low doses of aspirin with either Vioxx or Celebrex. At an F.D.A. advisory meeting in February, Dr. Maria Lourdes Villalba, a medical officer at the agency, summed up her analysis of Merck's study, saying that the company had proved that Vioxx, which is known generically as rofecoxib, caused fewer serious ulcers than naproxen. But she said that in her opinion, the potential safety advantage was offset by a higher risk of heart problems. "Over all, there was no safety superiority of rofecoxib over naproxen," Dr. Villalba concluded, "mainly due to an excess of serious cardiovascular events." Dr. Villalba said that because there were no studies that proved Merck's theory that naproxen worked like aspirin to decrease heart attacks, the F.D.A. was concerned that the higher rate of heart attacks found with Vioxx might have been caused by the drug's producing blood clots. Both Merck and Pharmacia say that patients taking either Vioxx or Celebrex and low doses of aspirin will still have fewer ulcers than if they were taking a drug combination like ibuprofen and aspirin. Dr. G. Steven Geis, Pharmacia's vice president for arthritis and cardiovascular clinical research, said, "We believe that if a patient is on low-dose aspirin and needs a drug for arthritis, celecoxib is a good option." Celecoxib is the generic name for Celebrex. Dr. Slater of Merck said, "There is still a tremendous benefit from taking it. |
Hi everyone.
Finally back home to stay. Have been bouncing around like a rubber ball that past 3 weeks. Trying to babysit at my daughters, and then come home, back again, and so forth. My granddaughter wanted to come home with grandma and papa for a few days, so we brought her back, had some plans to be at the lake, and she got sick. Running high fever, but only for a couple of days, and was alright again. I am tired and hurting. I hurt my back again bigtime. Don't exactly know what I was doing to do this, but it sure is sore - and that brings about another problem with a little fm flare. Can't win.
Hope everyone else is fine. Meme, hope your headache is subsiding. We haven't even had any rain until last night. We had a thunderstorm, a downpour and then nothing. May get a shower again today. It has been in the 80 and 90 degrees here and that is unheard of for the month of May. Broke all kinds of records. Ally - mams are too big? Is that what you said. Lots pay a fortune for that! But it sure is fun when they squeeze them in that wonderful machine they have. I am sure it was invented as a torture machine first. Candice - I must go out and pull weeds, but can't do it now. Will just have to wait. That recipe sounds delicious and I will give them a try - soon. Phyllis - hope you are feeling better. Is it for sure arthritis in your hip or back? Or are they still not sure. Can't remember what I read, and I have been off the board so much lately. |
Hello all. Happy, thank you for that Vioxx/Celebrex info. I WANTED to try that when I was trying so hard to figure out what would help with pain. My DOc said my ins company wouldn't cover until I had tried others and failed. In the end it wouldn't have done one bit of good cause my problem is all in my muscles, not in joints. But I was desperate and would have tried anything. Glad I didn't do it.
Is is sad that those of us just trying to get relief from pain can't rely on drug companies to test these drugs to avoid getting unsuspecting people into something that will hurt them. Gotta go.....will check back later |
Hi...headache is gone but arthritis/fibro pain is not! I took the methotrexate so...we'll see I guess. But it will be a month or so. I dread the wait!!!
Anne...good to have you back...have missed you! Hello to everyone else...hurting too bad to "talk" tonight. Sooooo glad I have the next 3 days and nights off! Gonna get some real rest (hopefully). Daughter knows how bad I feel and I had hubby let some not so subtle hints fall to son so maybe they will leave me alone this long weekend. I rented Remember the Titans and The Whole Nine Yards and plan on just laying around (after I get the house semi cleaned up tomorrow...hubby said he'd help!) The rain is supposed to be about over so maybe I'll feel a little better in a day or so! |
Happy Memorial Day Weekend
I have been going outside during rain drips( yes I said drips) to try and get some yard work done..still have some planting to do too.
The dog seemed better today, still limping but more energy so I cleaned her room up, swept and mopped the floor( we have a yucky damp basement so it is hard to get excited about cleaning it, you can't tell that anything has been done!) Meme..glad your headache is better and hope they leave you alone for awhile! I feel better pysically since I have been eating better, I am able to do more too it seems with out so much pain..knock on wood(thump, thump). My email is still being upgraded! I still want to know how to crop and size pictures I have something called imaging on this new puter but can't figure it out! Anne....ya think that post was long enough! Glad you are back with us! Ally..They used to give all Fibro patients arthritis meds, they tore up my stomach years ago and then they found out we didn't need them if you didn't have arthritis! Nothing helps these muscles when they jurt! Hi Toots..how are you doing? Wonderful site to go see! http://www.dbtech.net/umc/flash.html |
2:30 in the am and no sleep
well here I be and I'm sleepy as usual, but no sleep. Just toss and turn and turn,
Well, this is the big weekend and because I moved hee in Nov. I haven't gone anywhere because, I'm "away" already. My son and his friend the Captain of a USN vessel stationed in Coprus Christie is here for the weekend. Had dinner for them this eve and the mommy stayed home waiting for the new baby to come. She said she feels quizzie so maybe that's a sign. Everybody has been tired and achy it seems, but you guys keep going and going like the little rabbit. {In the drizzel too} Can't stand this feeling of tiredness but no sleep. Have had trouble entering the site, even had to re-register.don't know why.Maybe it's a hint? seeya!!! |
Hello
Hope you are all enjoying your Memorial Day weekend. We had a long weekend last weekend. They are so nice and everyone looks so forward to them. What are you all doing?
Phyllis - get a wiggle on and join a group or something, where you can go meet people. I am sure that your son enjoys having you near, but just the same, nothing like someone our own age for good company.(Unless you like 'um young)lol. Meme - glad to hear that the headaches have subsided. I have let this diet slide as well. It seems impossible to do it when I am not even home. Lots more eating out and out at familiy memeber homes. So can't control what I need at all. Then being home for just 3 days at a time, didn't bother much with groceries. Now my back is so sore, I can't be bothered with anything. Just want it to go away. Have trouble sitting or standing for too long, so walk and lay. What a life! Hope things are working better for you with regards to the church. Candice. You must have more flowers than a greenhouse(lol) Way to go. I went out and pulled some weeds yesterday, and that was a very stupid thing to do. Could hardly move later in the afternoon. Back just seized up. Ally - Hi. Hope you are doing ok. How is your son doing now? You know how men are when they get a little sick, well I can just imagine how a boy would be when he can't get around! Imagine! what am I talking about. My son tore a ligament in his ankle and had to be on crutches for 6 weeks. Had a half cast to hold his foot and then it was strapped with a tensor bandage. The thing was no weight was to be put on it. You would have thought it was the end of the world. Just couldn't do everything he wanted and there is nothing worse for a teen than being held back by something like this. You are all having rain and storms it seems. Here, we have hardly had any rain at all, and the temp. this week has been in the 80-90 degree range. Way to hot for me. We have a dry heat here at least. The humidity would do me in, I am afraid. Maybe some shower activity by Tuesday. The thing that worries me, is it could well turn out to be tornado weather. I have never seen a tornado, but have seen the results when one whipped through Edmonton 11 or 12 years ago. Only one ever. Then last year, just a few miles from here, Pine Lake had a tornado, and several people were killed and severly injured. It is a holiday place, so people were in camper type accommodations. Very sad. Well enjoy the day. |
Happy......I got caught in one of those thunderstorms today in the cemetary with my dogs. We got soaked.
My sons have a friend over and are occupying the good TV. I don;t know why I ever got them TVs for their own rooms...they just watch the big one. My son with the broken leg is getting a little annoying and annoyed. His brother likes to take off and leave him alone and lonely. He might be able to start putting some weight on it soon. Meme....Remember the Titans was good. Made my son want to get back into football. The Bruce Willis one I found disappointing. I wanted a nice long weekend alone too. No such luck. Candice... Did you say you've forgotten the diet too? Uh oh, you're the one I count on. I had picnic food today...even potato salad and a roll. I just didn't feel like dieting. Tootie...what happened with the Zoloft? Tomorrow, I have a trip to K-mart planned for excitement. Have a nice Memorial Day. I got quite emotional today at the Cemetary watching all the flags whipping in the rain over many many graves. |
Eh....low!LOL
Well the dog was beter today and so was the weather! Dh the dog and I got our walk in too!:)
Toots......no sleep..bummer! Was you sons friend a hunk????? Ally.....I'm still on program!!!!!!!!!!!!I was mopping the basement at midnight Friday night! (I was a little anxious) Anne...gonna finish potting my flowers Monday. Here is a picture of the stray cat that was here for a month..sure made himself at home! Slept right on the front porch! |

He went in the house and pouted..said later I didn't even talk to him and it was his day off! Go figure..I was busy! I can't just sit around like him..I have to keep busy when I have the energy! HI Ally, toots and Anne! This is by my back door..it is the west side of the house. The pink flowers are soapwart and blue ones iris. Bloom in late spring. |
Hello
Hello - I am new to this spot. I say in one of the threads that you do talk about different subjects-- I say in one of the treads where it is a no no to eat night shade veggies and I think pasta was mentioned because they cause the symtoms of arthritis and lupus to increase. Can anyone help me out on this subject. I have looked all over and can't find the answer. My sister has lupus and I have arthritis.
Yes Candice That is generally what all men think of. My husband is 76 and that is his favorite passtime. After 50 years with him ,I don't think it will change. Joanne |
Hi Everyone
Joanne, welcome to our little group. We do talk about many different things here, things that go on in our day to day life and things that can cause a flare in fm or arthritis. I also have arthritis. In answer to your question about eating certain foods, I went looking for Lupus and this is what I found.
Eat a diet low in fat, salt and animal protein - this kind of diet is easy on the kidneys. Use only canola or olive oil. Consume sardines often. They are a good source of essential fatty acids. Eat asparagus, eggs, garlic and onions. These foods contain sulfer, which is needed for the repair and rebuilding of bone, cartilage and connective tissue and aids in the absorption of calcium Include in the diet, brown rice, fish, green leafy vegetables, nonacidic fresh fruits, oatmeal and whole grains. Use some form of fiber daily. Do not consume milk, dairy products or red meat. Also avoid caffeine, citrus fruits, paprika, salt, tobacco and anything that contains sugar. Avoid the nightshade veggies (peppers, eggplant, tomatoes, white potatoes). These foods contain a substance called solanine, which can contribute to inflammation and pain. Get your iron from food sources, not supplements. Taking iron in supplement form may contribute to pain, swelling and joint destruction. Avoid strong sunlight and use protection from the sun. Go out in the sun only when necessary. Avoid using birth control pills. They may cause lupus to flare up. For arthritis: Eat more sulfur-containing foods, such as asparagus, eggs, garlic and onions. Sulfur is needed for the repaid and rebuilding of bone, cartilage, and connective tissue, and aids in the absorption of calcium. Other good foods include green leafy gegetables, which supply vitamin K; fresh vegetables, non=acidic fresh fruits; whole grains; oatmeal; brown rice and fish. Consume foods that contain the amino acic histidine, including rice, wheat and rye. Histidine is good for removing excess metals from the body. Many people with arthritis have ghigh levels of copper and iron in their bodies. Eat some fibre, such as ground flaxseeds, oat bran or rice bran daily. Reduce the amount of fat in your diet. Do not consume dairy procucts, milk or red meat. Also avoid, caffeine, citrus fruits, paprika, salt, tobacco and everything that contains sugar. Avoid the nightshade vegetables (see above in lupus) If you take Ibuprofen or other non-sterodial anti-inflammaory drugs(NSAIDS) aboid sodium(salt) which causes water retention. Spread doseage of these meds out through the day, take them only after eating, and take an antacic an hour after taking the drug. Don't take iron supplements - get it from food we eat, such as blackstap molasses, broccoli, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, fish, lima beans and peas. Hope this helps. Looks like all your hard work pays off. Yours flower beds and planters are beautiful, and I love that cat. I still miss my cat, and would have another, but we come and go all the time and it is hard to find someone to look after the cat.
In the garage you say(lol)? well, I guess you should feel flattered that after all this time you are still the one. Better that he feast at home! Meme - wouldn't you agree(lol) after all you live with Viagra man! I hope that you are feeling better. This has been going on long enough. Get a grip and give up some of the stuff you are doing! Your own health is more important surely! You are doing a lot of suffering lately, both physically and emotionally and they are taking their toll on you. Ally - living with two boys is a sizeable job! I remember when I lived with my husband (whom I still live with) my son, my nephew (staying with us while going to college) and an exchange student from Denmark(male). I wanted my daughter to move home, just so I had someone of my own gender to talk to. Thank goodness I was working then, and had women to talk to!! What a test. Phyllis - What are you doing. Are you feeling better. I miss you long funny posts, so get with the program and start them coming - even if you have to stay up all night to get them done(lol). Seriously, I hope you are sleeping better and feeling less pain. Are you still working on the Sugar busters? Seems the only one who can stick to anything is Candice. I am trying to be good - we will see what happens. As long as that exhaustion stays away, and I can stay of meds, I do ok. I can gain weight in no time at all just from the meds, diet or no diet. Seems like a losing battle ( no pun intended). |
Hi all. I am new to this forum. I have been a ww member about a dozen different times over the last 20 odd years or so. I have been recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia, and osteo arthritis. Taking lots of meds including a year of vioxx, and now on celebrex. Having problems with bingeing on carbs. Cant seem to stop. It helps to just talk to others who are experiencing the same things.I still work, as a hairstylist altho I am not working full days anymore. I am married , 51 and mother of five children, 2 girls ages 26 and 25,son soon to be 20 , twin sons 15. Grandmother to five,2 boys and 3 girls. Would like to hear from anyone who is experiencing same things.

Welcome Harbendr
Hope I got that right. You are in the right place. With the exhaustion caused by fm, and the constant pain of fm and osteoarthritis, carbs seem to be craved by most of us. We are all trying to lose weight, but we seem to have a hard time doing it.
I also was diagnosed with o/a of the back, hips and knees, and developed fm a couple of years ago. Some days are better than others. I am Canadian, am 55 years old, have 2 kids and one grandchild. Again welcome. Stick around and meet some of the others. They should be along soon. |
Might be going away for a few days....
Just need to decide..My sisters daughter is graduating form High school...it's about a six hour drive and I don't handle travel well at all and now I have to try on all my clothes to see what fits includeing undergarments!LOLThis is stressing me out so no time to post individually!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Went to get my hair trimmed and she was running behind so I walked around town but didn't have walking shoes on! (my hips hurt form that!) Got some triming done in the yard today too..beautiful out! Another picture of my west flower bed with my cat Kitsy in the window! She loves to soak up the afternoon sun!:) |
Welcome to Joanne and Harbendr...
Candice...I was going to NC next month to the decoration at the cemetery where my brother is buried but if I don't get to feeling A LOT better by then (father's day) I won't be able to and that is only about 4 hrs. from here. This stuff is killing me. I've gained 18 pounds in the last 6 weeks and I don't know what is causing me to eat so much...carbs mainly. I HAVE to stop or I'm going to be in the bed not able to move. I now need to lose about 48 pounds...30 sounded a lot more doable!!! The pain right now is beyond belief. If you were to hit a "normal" person (ie: someone who has no pain!) with the pain I am experiencing every hour of every day it would probably knock them cold! Anne...yes mother...you are right, I know you are but how to say NO!!! (by the way...what the heck is a gegetable???) Here is a very interesting article on FM http://my.webmd.com/living_better_co...cle/1689.51510 Then if you click at the bottom of that page there is a discussion with a Dr. about FM and then clicking on the bottom of THAT page will take you to a whole host of related articles...very interesting reading. |
Thanks
Ann- Thank you so much- I am still looking for the article about pasta - I eat a moderate amount of pasta and my sister I am sure does as well.
I live in Florida and am retired from nursing. There are still many thing for me to learn. This site has been very informative for me... Yes I am a "lurker" too. - Joanne |
Joanne, I think the reason pasta may not be so good, is because it is usually made with white flour and when it breaks down, it does so to sugar. If you eat pasta, try to get wholewheat pasta. It does not break down in the system the same way. That is a guess, but they say sugar is bad and it is. I feel a lot better when I don't eat sugar, but sometimes it is like I have no control. This happens only when this damned exhaustion takes over my body. Nothing else works, and I am dragging myself around feeling terrible. Your body knows that it requires carbs for energy at that time. Also at that time, my brain can't seem to fight it.
Candice - How do you handle the exhaustion - you know the kind that is so complete you can barely move? What do you do to get back energy? I think we would all like to know that! Meme, Meme, Meme - you don't know what a getgetable is? For heaven sakes, I am sure if you read Dr. Suess you will find out(lol). I am glad to see you post with a little of your old humor. I wish I could come visit with you then you would know how BAD really feels.! I was playing with my granddaughter one day and because she hates being called a bad girl (really upsets her) I told her I was baaaad grandma and then I would proceed to chase her, catch her and tickle her. So now when she wants to play, she says you a baaaad grandma. The other day she stayed with a woman that has a little girl(4yrs). Her grandma was there as well. When Brenda picked up Ashley from the babysitter, on the way to the car Brenda asked Ashley if that was Elanas grandma and Ashley says yes. I have a baaaad grandma and Elana has a good grandma. I almost died laughing. I could just see her saying that to this other woman. What a hoot. She probably thinks it is so, although my little sweetheart knows. To funny. Anyway, I don't know what you can do to feel better Meme. I sometimes wish I were magic or something. Just forget about everyone else and think about yourself. That is not selfish that is practical, because if you are not able to look after you then you soon won't be able to look after anyone! MOTHER HAS SPOKEN!!! Ally - missed your posting yesterday. Hope you are doing ok. Glad you enjoyed that long weekend. Phyllis - Come out, come out wherever you are! We miss you and your humor. We need you to come back to us. To the newbies- I am not really crazy. |
Oh yes she is too...she's nuts, nuts, nuts!!!
Yessiree!!! YepYepYep...just plain insane! |
You know what Meme, I am crazy - crazy enough to send you this hug and hope it helps some (lol)
|
OUCH
