Red face Exercise after a hysterectomy

I am scheduled for the 21st of this month and more worried about my lack of being able to exercise than the actual procedure. I know that my hysterectomy is going to be done vaginally but that is really all I do know. My pre-op is the 15th so I will find out more then but for now I need a game plan. Can anyone give me any information on what they could actually do in the form of exercise after having this surgery? I know there will be nothing strenuous on the books for awhile but the fear of lying around is overwhelming me.

I'm not sure I'm asking this in the right area so if I'm not please excuse this post.

After my hysterectomy, it was all I could do to walk. In the first couple of weeks, you won't have the energy to do much, so don't worry about it. Walking was really my only form of exercise for the first couple of months - but it was all I could handle, so I was ok with that.

I had abdominal surgery last summer and I was released to lift weights (light) after 10 weeks. You'll have a pretty good idea of what you can handle. I'd pay close attention to what your body is telling you, and be sure and get the dr's permission.

Thank you for the response. I didn't figure I would be able to do very much but I hoped that walking wouldn't be out of the question. I have been keeping my doc in the know on my weightloss journey so I hope he ok's my walking even if it's not much. I just found out a friend of mine had the same procedure done and was ok'd for walking (light walk on treadmill) in a week. I am thinking positively. Thanks again.

I had a vaginal hysterectomy and I started walking in the hospital. However I was already a walker before the hysterectomy. I started just with walking around my room. Then around my home. At 2 weeks I was walking blocks. I was stir crazy. It helped in my recovery though and was oked by the docter. Make sure you have the ok for anything you do! Good luck!
