My name is Amanda, I am kind of new to this site and was wondering if anyone here had any food allergies. I am allergic to milk, wheat, soy and corn. I do not have immediate reactions but instead of delayed reactions. I tend to retain water, and have depressive symptoms. I was just wondering if there is anyone else out there who has food allergies that I could talk to. I used to be on my allergy diet buy got off of it somehow and now I am having a really hard time getting back on it.

Hi Amanda - I'm sorry I can't help you, but I was wondering if you could help me. It is such a coincidence that you posted this today; just an hour ago I was telling my hubby that I need to go to an allergist because I think I am allergic to certain things, namely wheat and dairy. Can you tell me how you found out about your allergies? Did you go to a doctor, or just stop eating things that made you feel bad? I am DREADING the idea that I may have to give up even more foods than I have already given up on my diet. I hope you find another member who can help you -Ruby
Hi everyone!
I'm brand new here, but I wish I'd found this site 30 pounds ago! Anyway, I used to have a few food allergies, but they subsided when I got my blood sugar under control. Specifically, I was allergic to milk and corn. Milk, especially, would cause me to bloat and become almost immediately depressed. If I needed to cry on command, I'd just down a glass of chocolate milk! However, I *can* tolerate milk now, and corn too... probably because I don't eat processed sugar. No more bloating; no more depression.

Hi -I can tell you about food allergies. I am allergic to wheat, milk, soy and I have diverticulosis really bad which means I vcan't eat anything with seeds or raw veggies. My reactions range from arthritic pain to congestion which sometimes leads to a sinus infection. The good news is that the Health store and even the grocery store have Rice Milk and the Health store has breads that are wheat free-I use Spelt. It is expensive but I am worth it. Bye for now Mima
Thanks for the posts everyone. I really appreciate the support.

I didn't diagonose my allergies through a doctor. When I was in high school I went on what they call an elimination diet. That is when you take several foods that are common allergens out of your diet. In my case it was milk, soy, wheat, corn and preservatives You are on this limited diet for three weeks while keeping a journal of what you ate and your symptoms. After the three weeks you place one food back into your diet at a time, waiting at least four days between foods to notice if there is any reaction to it. It is hard and tedious, but worth it.
Mima--
We are kind of similar. I haven't had too much luck with the rice milk, but have used rice pasta and rice bread. Although the rice bread needs to be toasted. I have never tried the spelt bread. I will have to go to my health food store and see if they have any. Do you buy the bread or make it? Just curious. Hope to talk to you soon.

You will like the spelt bread-there are different kinds and some don't have to be toasted. I f you have a Trader Joe's near you, they have it for $2.49. I buy the rice bread for a change of pace. Health food store or breadmaker I guess. Superwalmart sells the rice milk-I actually love it. I think it tastes like skim but sweeter. They have vanilla too. The health food store people know a lot and they will help you. The other day I bought Spelt pretzels, cookies with no wheat and a snack made from rice and corn. Expensive but I'm the only one that eats it. Glad I can help Amanda-it's nice to hear I am not alone in this. My son is so great-he makes me a salad with no seeds in anything. Mima
Mima--
I wanted to thank you for responding to my post. I am so glad you did. You have encouraged me to get back on my food allergy diet and start getting well again. I know it will be difficult but I also know that I can do it and I will be better off because of it. Again thanks for the encouragement.
