fibromyalgia #133

I can't believe we've had 133 threads already. We sure do talk a lot!

It snowed here last night. First we have a week of thunderstorms that knock the power out, temps near 70, and then it drops into the teens and we have snow. Weird winter. My dog hates it when it gets cold. If it gets below 30 she stands outside and barks to be let in the basement. Hubby's griping because he has to let her in on his new tile! ;) Most Goldens love the snow and cold but not her. She just wants in! Smart dog!!! It's the rain she likes ... everytime it rains I have to MAKE the dummy come in. She just runs around like a loon and gets soaked. :p

I have a very light week planned ... no school today so I'm thinking about cancelling lessons this afternoon and just taking the whole day off. I feel a lazy spell coming on!

Hey Tammy ... just take off some time and don't worry about school. The kids will be fine, they can coast for a couple of weeks. Time to nourish yourself. Let me recommend a good "oh my gosh I can't put it down" book for you to read. You can get it used from Amazon or off ebay either one for $3 or $4 plus shipping and probably get it delivered in time to read before your surgery. It's 'Blink' by Ted Dekker. You won't be sorry!!!

Hey There

For the first time it feels like winter.. We are supposed to have cool weather all this week..
Tammy- I'll be nosey..What surgery are you having? Anyway.. Take it from Meme and get a couple good books.. Good luck and don't worry about your class room. I remember when my daughter had surgery. The sub was calling her every day..
We haven't seen or heard from our son since Christmas.. Well he decided to come by today.. He wanted to let us know he was getting married Feb.12.. He has been single almost 20 years.. I only hope he will stay happy as he seems to be..
Hello Everybody..Joanne

hey guys...i have a question. My mom is overweight and has fibromyalgia. I always ask her to come work out with me but she never does because she says she hurts too bad. She really needs to lose weight because not only do we have a family history of heart disease and things, she also has high blood pressure and diabetes...so what is something i can do to get her to be healthier? are there any excercises that are less painful and trying on her joints? I know she wants to lose weight..because i have been and i see the way she looks at me...i just am at a complete loss for what i can do to get her to try and not just automatically say i cant. Thanks.
Nikki

Tammy 01-17-2005 09:27 PM

Meme, I wrote down the title of that book. I have an account with Amazon, so I'll head there after I finish messages. We had snow again last night. The temp was below zero when I got up. By the time I drove to school for our work day, it was 3 degrees!

Joanne, I'm having carpal tunnel surgery on Thursday. I already have severe nerve damage in my right hand, so that is the one we're doing first. Haven't decided if I'll have the left one done or not. Depends on how the right feels after a while.

I do plan on getting some reading done while I'm off. I have plans typed up for all the subjects that I teach. All the sub has to do is go down the list in each subject and check things off as she does them. I typed up a bunch so she doesn't run out of things to do! lol I'm sure that the other 3 teachers at 2nd grade will help her out if needed. I also have an aide part of the day who works with a couple of my students. She'll be a big help too.

Congratulations to your son on his approaching marriage! Wow! How far does he live from you? My son is taking the ACT that day, and he is playing a snare drum solo in a solo and ensemble contest.

Hi Nikki

Exercise - not an easy task for those with FM. Whenever I do even the most simple exercises I end up doing something to the muscles and it takes about 8 weeks before the pain subsides, so it isn't something I am rushing out to do. If she can walk without too much pain, that is good. Start with a short walk to the end of the driveway and back, and then go bit by bit. I do have sore feet lately. Feels like knives going through the bottom of my feet, so walking ISN'T high on my list either.

Diet - eating right is essential. Not living on junk food. It is hard for most of us to drop pounds because of the meds we take.

I hope she can find something simple and effective. This darn disease puts us in a catch 22 situation.

Mima 01-18-2005 05:59 AM

Good morning-thanks for the new thread. The good news and the other news. Brad's colonoscopy went well-no polyps-just hemeroids . Endoscopy showed an ulcer and hiatal hernia-has to go back and have another in 8 weeks. He also had his throat stretched-he chokes very easily. Now me-no kidney stones showed up so I had to go to a urologist. I made the appt for when Brad was having his treatment and he was done early so he had to wait almost 2 hours for me-luckily he was drugged so he didn't mind -ha!!! Back to me-I still have blood in my urine so now I have to have another ct-this time with the dye. They are looking for a tumor or something. Did you know that exposure to smoke can cause bladder cancer. My deceased husband was a heavy smoker so I was exposed recently and also I grew up with it-smoked myself for a while. So I have to wait another week before I know anything. That's why I didn't say bad news-I just don't know what the news is. 2 more blood tests today before they do the procedure
Joanne, what a nice surprise!!!!!We have 3 unmarried children and I would be happy to hear that news myself-if it was the right one. Maybe you will have more grandchildren. I waited 14 years for my second one.
2 ladies from Brad's church called-one to ask about him. What nice people!!
I am sorry you guys have such cold weather-we are freezing but it's all relative.
Best wishes on your surgery, Tammy. I dreaded rotator cuff surgery for the pain and after it was such a relief to not be in pain. Bye for now-ps Candice are you ok. Mima

Joanne D 01-18-2005 11:22 AM

Hey There

My son is 46 and his girl friend is 44. She has 2 grown children. I doubt they will have any children.. It has been a dream of mine that someday he would have a child. I guess it was just a dream..As long as he is happy that is all that counts. It will be a small wedding..
Tammy- He lives just a few miles from me.. He is pretty busy..he is a design architect and has some rental properties to keep up with..We don't get to see him as often as we used to. I will get used to it. I guess guys don't come around as often when a partner comes on the scene.Good luck with your surgery.. My daughter taught 2nd grade for nearly 20 years. Then they decided to move her to 1st grade. She is grade leader there too. There was a big shake up in that school. Not big enough though..She has no aide. She usually has an intern teacher.. That is just more pressure.
Mima- I hope that you can get these health problems resolved.. I will pray it is just minor..I am enjoying the cool weather.. It will be hot soon enough.
Welcome Nikki..Are you greek? It would be nice if you could get your mom into a support group like tops.Weight Watchers is still good.South Beach Diet is good. I have done all of them. I now belong to Tops... It can be done on line. I really like going to the meetings.. They could encourage her to lose weight. She ofcourse has to be willing to help herself too.Her Dr. could refer her to a Fibro. Group. I walk for exercise.. I think it is the best .I can't/won't do any other. I have oa and I don't like pain.
Hello everybody else .. Hubby wanting to go to town so I'll be back later...Joanne

MemeToo 01-18-2005 01:08 PM

OK ... our church is hosting a "Couple's Garden" the Saturday before Valentine's Day and I'm in charge. I nailed down the guest speaker last night, have the ladies who are willing to make the luscious "right off the pages of a magazine" desserts lined up, I'm singing the special ("My Valentine") so NOW I'm stressing out about the questionnair for each person. I'm trying to put a picture on the front of colored paper and have writing on the inside and back with questions "ABOUT HIM", "ABOUT HER" and then on the back "ABOUT US" to see how well they know each other. They will do these before the guest speaker takes the floor and then compare with each other. I can't seem to get everything lined up and readable. I think it's my crappy printer!!! :?: It's driving me NUTS!!! (didn't have far to go!) :p

Have any of you ever been to a "Couple's Garden"? They are awesome. Each couple goes out to eat to a nice restaurant of their choice. Then they come to the church or organization that is sponsoring it for a dessert and drink. There are several individual desserts set up on a table for them to choose from with slips of paper in a bowl in front of each one. If they want the first dessert, they would choose the number representing that one and take it to their seat. A waiter comes to their table and collects their choice and gets their drink order and goes to the kitchen and brings back their choice to them. After everyone is served, they interact with each other through a handout or a game ... getting to know your spouse/partner and then there is a love song and then a guest speaker speaks on relationships.

Some of the questions are funny ... such as, "Who spends the most time in the bathroom?" And some are argumentative ... such as, "Who must always be right?" and "Who uses the remote the most." Then the last one on the ABOUT US page is supposed to start you thinking: "If you found out tomorrow your spouse was going to die within the next week, would you treat him/her differently?" I also have to come up with 11 questions for HER and 11 for HIM. It's kind of like the 'Newlywed Game' on paper. Looks like I'm going to have to buy a new printer, though!

Speaking of sore feet ... the one ulcer I've had on my ankle for nearly a year is getting better but I now have two more places popped up ... one on top of each foot! Can't win for losing around here. And then hubby just called a few minutes ago and told me to call and get him a Dr. app. right away, he dropped a piece of steel on his toe and tore the nail off and it won't stop bleeding. What next?

Mima ... sending you and your hubby prayers. Hope it all turns out well. You, too Tammy ... just 2 more days! :goodluck:

I'm freezing ...

Tammy 01-18-2005 08:27 PM

Mima, keep us posted on what is happening with you. Prayers are with you guys!

Joanne, if it is a small wedding, does that mean that all of us are not invited? I was already practicing songs to sing! lol

Meme, the question thing sounds like fun. Wonder how much my hubby and I really know about each other after almost 24 years? Ouch to your husbands toe!

Thanks for the good wishes for my surgery on Thursday. A couple people at school told me not to even think about school while I'm out. Oh my. That will be tough. I hope they behave for my sub.

Happy Canuk 01-18-2005 09:38 PM

Hi everybody.

Candice where are you? I hope you are doing ok.

Mima - I hope your tests come out just fine. Both you and hubby are having a time of it.

Joanne - I saw pictures of Florida on TV and everybody is dressed up like we do when it is cold!! The bad thing is that the cost of oranges and such skyrockets when you guys freeze.

Tammy - I hope your surgery goes well. It is carpel tunnel isn't it?

Meme - the thing is, the longer you have been married the harder the questions are. We played a game similar to this at my son's wifes wedding shower and she could answer everything - new love you know! I don't know why, but the favorite song changed somehow over the years  also, the favorite color etc. It is quite easy when you first start out.

Well, it is starting to warm up some here. Up to 30 today from 37 below yesterday. Needless to say, the pain levels are high and I am really stiff. The cold weather at least keeps the pain at bay because there is no humidity.

Mima 01-19-2005 05:48 AM

Hi all!!! Had to go for 2 tests yesterday and they wanted a whole cup of urine-sorry to be so specific-so I went to the grocery store and took a bottle of water off the shelf and drank it while i shopped. Then went back-and couldn't stop going. Too funny. Well, we went out to LOOK at cars-wanted a bigger one so we can only bring one car down. We ended up buying a Toyota Highlander-that guy was not going to let us out of the showroom. It is the first car I have ever driven that I can see out of. Too late in day to get insurance so we have to go back today. We also have to send someone in house to find title to the Toyota that we are trading in. Let's hope!! Thank you for all the prayers!!! Prayers for you Tammy so that the pain is manageable. I always worried when I was not in school but it always turned out ok.
Up at 4 again. that's me and stress. Yesterday I was back in bed at 9. I guess you won't be having any granchildren-now you will have to hope for great granchildren, How is yours that's in the Navy? We are cool again today but it's 3 at home. Mima

Joanne D 01-19-2005 07:20 PM

Hey There

Tammy- Sorry my son isn't even asking his cousins as far as I know.. They haven't discussed it with me.. He is having a sit down dinner so I guess he is really limiting people..Good Luck with the surgery.. I agree, forget about school.
Happy -The price of oranges are up here too. The hurricains ruined the orange groves . Most of the crop of oranges and grapefruit ended on the ground..
Meme-I have heard of churches holding classes for couples.. My son and his wife to be were going to them..
Mima- I bet you are glad to be down here now.. We will watch the swearing in tomorrow..The snow in Washington is falling. I bet there will be a lot of cold people there..
I have a two piece dress I made about a year ago in my closet.. I will wear that to the wedding.I have only worn it once. It is really nice shantuag..All I need to buy is hose..
My hubby never wears a suit. As amatter a fact the only one he has is too small and going to someone else..So I will have to get him a sport jacket and pray he will put on a tie..More fun!!!
Hello Candice...Joanne

Tammy 01-19-2005 08:41 PM

I've decided if the surgery really helps the right hand, I'll have carpal tunnel surgery on the left hand sometime since it is causing problems too. Then I'll have carpal tunnel on the left ankle, then the right ankle, then the right jaw, then the left jaw. By then the school year should be over and I'll have to summer to take it easy!!!! lol

I won't be typing much one handed. I'll be typing with 1 finger and that will drive me crazy. I don't have to be there until 11:15 tomorrow, an hour before the surgery. They said the surgery should take an hour.

My whole body is aching today, so I figure it is from worrying about the surgery, and also some worrying about school. I need to relax.

little grasshopper 01-19-2005 09:10 PM

Hello - I have been reading your thread and wonder if you mind me joining in? I am 32 and have been diagnosed with many different things..all chronic pain related. I am lucky enough to work in a doctor's office and am a massage therpaist, so while it is very hard on my body at times, I get good health care and body work when I need it.

When I was 15 I was in a car accident that left me with more things broken than whole. Since then I did a decent job with rehab and building my life again. I even hold 4 black belts. But 3 years ago things started sliding backwards. Suddenly I gained 40 pounds and any exercise at all seemed to cause injuries. I ate horribly and was on all kinds of pain meds! No one mentioned fibro for the longest time. When they finally did, it made perfect since.

Now I am on a very strict detox diet and eat only certain foods. I take vitamins specific to my needs and am on a very limitted exercise program that I am struggling to stay on. I walk, or ride a bike for 30 minutes at a decent pace. Last week I ran for 5 minutes once...but of course, things have been screwy since. I'm looking forward to building slowly.

Most of the time I do well. I feel very very fortunate that way, but when the pain kicks in and a new cycle starts I can get pretty low. That's when I know I need the support of people that understand that while I don't look sick - sometimes, I really am. I have to remind co-workers, my BF, and even my mom and family sometimes. It gets very frustrating! It's hard to stay positive sometimes while you're having to remind everyone in your life that there are real limits to what you can and can't do. Makes me wish sometimes that this came with a rash - or a sign :)

Anyway, I have enjoyed reading along and would love to be able to join in. Have a great evening.

MemeToo 01-20-2005 02:25 AM

Grasshopper ... Oh yeah, yes ... uh huh ... Know THAT feelin' ... the one where you have to remind everybody that there is actually something wrong with you! People without fibro just don't GET it. I got so tired of it I finally just quit. I decided I don't really care what other people think about me! 'Course I've got 25 years on you ... but just wait ... you'll get to that point one of these days! ;) On top of the fibro I have Rheumatoid and Osteoarthritis and I'm severly anemic. Some days I just can't hardly get myself out of bed but there are some members of my family who don't care to ask me to fill in the missing blanks in their lives any time of day or night. The rest of my family get sick ... they go to bed ... I'm supposed to be 'on call' 24/7! I've learned to just say, "I can't do that now, I'm too tired," or "I'm hurting too bad today." Unless it's something I really want to do. I love spending time with my grandchildren but they wear me down. Sometimes I just have to play and then pay! :p That's the nature of the disease!

Mima 01-20-2005 06:19 AM

Hi there LG-tis group is very supportive and we know your pain and also the little awareness that people have of fibro-we complain to neach otherb so we don't have to go around bellyaching to others!! Prayes for you, Tammy. That was funny . Where are you Candice. Yesterday was a riot. Not really but it sure turned out well. First we went to AAA to get the car insurance. Sat there for an hour and a half while she looked up our driving records. All of Brad's exgirlfriends (that adorable Susie who gas caused so much grief) accidents were posted under his name-we finally got that straightened out. I also said that his license was suspended in 98. MA used to suspend your license if you didn't pay a parking ticket but he said he always did-anyway, it didn't matter but we are going to find out what that was. Finally, the insurance was reasonable. In the meantime, Brad's stepdaughter is looking in our house for the title. After many phone calls back and forth, she found it. Now she might have to look for our birth certificates because we need a FL License. Anyways it turned out well. And it only took 15 minutes to pick up our car. then we went to supper at church and our class. That car is awesome.
I read about the procedure I am having MOn. It doesn't look like fun. Hope they knock me out enough. Cystoscopy-that's it. I know you guys are cold up there so relax with a good book inside today. Mima

Joanne D 01-20-2005 10:51 AM

Hey There

Grasshopper.. Welcome..I was wondering how you were.. You came to a good place. I only have OA It still is not hard to relate to these girls. Chronic pain is a given.. There are good days and bad days..
Tammy..Pretty good.. Keep the spirits up. You will be fine..
Mima- I don't think they will put you to sleep for this test. I had a lot of test done on my bladder a few years ago and I was awke . With the one you are having it is done in office. It was just like having a catheter inserted..No pain..
The catheter has a little scope so they can look around your bladder..Takes just a few minutes.
Meme..Hello.
Bye...Joanne

little grasshopper 01-20-2005 11:07 AM

Good morning. Thanks for the welcome. We have about and inch of snow outside and every client I had today has canceled. I had to leave my car last night and walk 3 miles in the snow until BF could reach me. I'd been battling pain this week anyway because of TOM but that kicked it into overdrive. Now the headache I've had for 4 days has swapped sides of my head. I'm hoping to amek it into the office later today and get the doctor to adjust my neck - that usually helps a lot. I guess walking up hill in freezing cold and snow for two hours isn't a good idea, huh. Other than that I'm doing fine. Craving all the foods that make things worse.....chocolate, sugar, anything I can't have! And avoiding stretching like it's a bad thing :)

I'm enjoying reading along. I will check in later today. We are to get more snow tonight so I'll probably be stuck right here tomorrow too....And more this weekend - I may never leave here :) haha!

Candicej 01-20-2005 11:27 AM

Having a problem with indigestion type symtoms and medication isn't working. I may have eaten something bad too...........I'm due for an endoscpoy this year anyway. (but do not want the colon part again)!

Meme..can you post that spahgetti casserole you mentioned on the other thread?

Mom had another stroke....can't get through to anyone to find out details.

MemeToo 01-20-2005 01:22 PM

Sure can ... depends on how much you want to make, though. I always make a lot and then either freeze some or take hubby's parents some - so I'll give you the 2 pound size and then if you don't want to make that much you can cut it in half:

2 to 2-1/2 pounds of hamburger or ground chuck (salt lightly)
Crumble and fry out
Drain and rinse

About 1-1/2 pound spaghetti noodles
Break twice before cooking
Cook and rinse (salt water lightly)

Combine and mix with a large jar of Traditional Prego Sauce and pour into a 9"X13" pan.

Top with a 16 oz bag of Mozzarella cheese & bake at 350 about 20 minutes or until the cheese melts and is golden.
I serve this with a salad and garlic bread.

Hope your mom is OK!!!

Grasshopper ... what part of NC are you from? WHEW ... 3 MILES UP HILL IN THE SNOW!!! I can't walk 3 miles indoors!

Been watching the Inauguration. Had to watch it on TV since I wasn't invited! :p Made me cold just watching!!! BURRRRRRRR!!!

little grasshopper 01-20-2005 07:46 PM

Good evening guys. I just got home. Got my car safely back home too :) There were SO MANY cars stranded on the sides of the road...it looked like the rapture came through! :)

Meme too - I live in Raleigh but am from the coast - Wilmington. And I thought my story was pretty tough - today EVERYONE had a story....mostly about finding places to go to the bathroom on the way home. Yep, one snow storm and THAT's what unites us all. :)

We are to get more tonight. wish us luck :) I saw the doctor today and got him to adjust me from head to toe. It did wonders. I had 3 clients literally back to back...no break at all - so I was running around all afternoon and I didn't hurt one bit. I'm wiped out completley now but at least I'm rid of the neck pain and headaches. BF bought me a spaghetti squash and a butternut squash. I'm going to cook at least one for dinner tomorrow night :) I've never had either. I'm trying to convince mysefl that this REALLY is a reward :)

MemeToo 01-21-2005 12:55 AM

The reason I was wonder where in NC you were ... I'm from NC. Around Asheville. I live in TN now, though. We are supposed to get snow Sat. night and Sun. JOY! TN closes when it snows. :(

Candicej 01-21-2005 05:07 AM

Thanks Meme..sounds good.....I will make the smaller vesion for DH and I. That does sound easy!

Still having chest pain in the right side...pretty bad for a few days but I think it is still gastro realted. Mom is not good..on antibiotics again, she has some kind of a swollen spot on her neck and jaw that is painful so my sis requested morphine to keep her comfy. She can't eat with the lump. I hate to see her suffer so. Snow here too so I'm not going out!

Mima 01-21-2005 06:56 AM

Oh Candice-sorry about your mom!!!It's -1 at home-MA is a good place to be FROM right now. Miss the people , not the weather. WE went on a mystery dinner theater train ride last night with people we stayed near last year. Only problem was that the couple we were supposed to sit with sat with someone else because they thought we were not coming so we had to sit by ourselves-only 4 to a table so it didn't divide up right for us. Had a good time anyways and a good meal.
Thanks for the info Joanne-I called the doc's office and they told me I wouldn't be knocked out so now I am reassured by you that it won't hurt. This doctor thing has overtaken my life but there are tons of people praying.
What do you do little Grasshopper that you have clients. Hey Meme, we are going to see the Gaithers next week. Taking Al in the wheelchair in the van. They think they caught the guy who was stealing the handicapped vans around here. I don't know if you heard about that but I was concerned about my son's so that is good.
Hope you find out what is wrong, Candice. Have you tried Prilosec or similar over the counter. Bye Mima

Tammy 01-21-2005 02:54 PM

Little Grasshopper, I like the rash idea!! My son is doing a report and presentation for one of his classes on fibro. He is learning quite a bit. He was one of those doubting ones. This has been great for him, because he is actually finding out that there really is something wrong with me.

Candice, keep us posted about your mom.

We had 4 inches of snow yesterday, so far nothing today. Tomorrow we are supposed to get 3-6 inches more. I want to move away from Ohio! This winter has just been too weird.

My hand was worse than the doctor expected. Managed to get me fixed up I hope. He said it might be a longer recovery time. I'm supposed to go back to school on Feb 7, but that could change.

MemeToo 01-21-2005 02:56 PM

Been in bed all day ... don't care, I'm in major pain.

I feel so bad for my hubby. He broke his toe and neither one of his kids even called to see if it was broken after he had it X-rayed. They have done me that way all their adult lives and I've taken it in stride but I feel bad for him. It's hurtful when your kids neglect you ... I know just how he feels. He doesn't say much but I knew he was feeling it when he said last night, "I bet Kristy (our DIL) didn't even tell Jim (our son)." She may or may not have ... who knows ... our daughter didn't call either! I told him one time that if something happened to him and I was unable to go to the store or take care of myself I'd just sit here and die. He said the kids would come around and call more if he wasn't here. I just laughed ... he's so naive.

I can FEEL that it's going to snow tomorrow ... think I'll just go back to bed! I'm miserable!!! :(

MemeToo 01-21-2005 03:04 PM

We must have been posting at the same time Tammy ... hope it doesn't take longer for your hand to heal. Just get some good books and movies and settle down!!!

kannwilson 01-21-2005 06:06 PM

New here

Hi all, I'm new here. I was diagnosed with fibro May 04. I've been "dieting" most of my life. It never really worked so now I'm just trying to eat healthy and exercise. I record everything I eat in a journal which has really helped. It's not perfect though, there are days when I eat more than I should and I don't record it. I'm getting better at that though. I realize I need to be honest with myself.

I try to exercise as well. I do pretty good at that. I have found that water exercise is the best. I try to get to the gym 3-4 times a week. Before the fibro, I could go any time but now I have to go after work or when I have nothing else planned for the day. After working out, I get so exhausted, I can't do anything else.

I'm glad I found this site, I think I'll get a lot out of it!

Tammy 01-21-2005 06:16 PM

Meme, I have a stack of books and magazines beside the recliner. Trouble is, I can't pull the lever to recline!! lol Maybe I could train the dog to do it for me.

Karen, welcome! I know what you mean about being honest with yourself. My doctor recommended water exercise. We used to belong to the Y, but I hate to spend the money for a membership.

little grasshopper 01-21-2005 06:57 PM

Tammy - I hope you're feeling better soon! Soon feel too bad - I have two good arms and I can't recline the chairs either :) Mine is because I'm scared I'm going to fall in the floor :)

I don't remember who asked - but you wanted to know what I do that I have clients. I'm a massage therapist. When I was about to turn thirty I realized I was doing so while still in a job I hated and promised myself I'd leave years earlie. I'd always wanted to be in the body work field, I just didn't have the courage to go back to school on top of everything else. I finally decided that I didn't want to wake up that day and have to look at myself while still doing a job I hated. So I left the job and I went back to college. It was the best thing I could have ever done! I work in a doctor's office so I get lots of free care and I am doing so much better than I use to! I'm very very lucky and I fully realize it.

I saw a post that md's put a lot of fibro patients on b12. This is true. Every single fibro and chronic fatigue person in our office (and that's most of them) is on b12. But if you decide to take a vitamin - PLEASE go to a good store to get it!! Talk to the sales people and get a good vitamin...it's sad how many people are taking pills that aren't even what the bottle says it is!

Well I'd better go - I'm exhausted.. So glad the weekend is here. I plan to sleep as much as possible....that means I won't be able to sleep. :(

Hey There

Tammy- Use your good arm/hand and recline the chair and then climb in it..The Doctors usually don't tell us in the beginning how long it takes to recoup from a surgery. It just really depends on the person..Hope you do well.. like mem says sit back and enjoy it..
Meme- You are in a pickle.. When both my hubby and I got sick after Christmas we just stayed in bed..No one checked on us either . Our daughter did call. Her and her hubby had the same thing and were staying in bed. Bad thing was they were in a camper out in the woods on a lake.. She said that they were afraid they were going to die and no one would know it..I have two sisters in town. One was sick with the same virus(Eleni) and the other was having too much fun to call. :(
Grasshopper..It is nice to hear that you are doing well. I guess you aren't babysitting for your brother..It is nice you found a nice job with all the benefits. Medical care is so expensive even when you do have insurance.
Mima- A new car and a new home!! Wow that is great.. I hope your medical problems get taken care of soon so you can enjoy everything..
Welcome Karen- Sounds like you have a healthy plan to lose weight..Remember you are important.. Take care of yourself and you will be more able to take care of the rest..
Candice- I hope you are better soon. Keep in mind your mother is where she can have 24 hour care..They will take care of her.. You take care of you..Let us know how things are going..
Hello everybody I missed...Joanne

Hi Grasshopper, welcome to our little group. Hope you find a home here.

Joanne, this ISN'T the same Grasshopper. This is Little Grasshopper and the other gal was Young Grasshopper lol.

Candice - sorry to hear about your mom. Hope she is not in too much pain.

Mima - hope they can find out what is going on.

Meme - Glad your foot is healing up - finally.

Not much going on here. Cold and windy tonight. Can't wait for SPRING!!!

Hi Karen - welcome to you as well. Our home isn't big, but we always have room for one more.

MemeToo 01-22-2005 04:08 AM

Candice wanted me to tell you her mom passed away Friday. It came a big snow storm there so she won't be able to travel until Sunday.

Karen, welcome to our group. We don't all follow the same plan (or even ANY plan) ;) and we don't all agree on everything, but we all support and love each other here. Everyone is welcome to join in ... the more input the better.

Hey, Tammy, leave the recliner out and just scoot in and out of it! Or better still just get some pillows and pile up in bed and read! Did you ever find "Blink"?

Ah ... Spring ... wishful thinking I'm thinking!

Mima 01-22-2005 06:01 AM

Oh Candice-when you read this, I want to tell you how sorry I am. And now you have to wait for the snow. She had good care and it sounds like it was inevitable.Again, sorry. Sounds like that is the same storm they will have in MA tonight.
Tammy, glad you are ok. The pain is worse in the beginning. The theray will help when you are ready.
Meme, after Brad and my ordeals, no one called. I told Mike he was supposed so now he asks. I think daughter is worried. I don't tell them everyting anyways. Son Bob heard from my brother and he was concerned. That's how kids are. Friends and church family are better. We had 3 calls from our Sunday school class plus you know they are praying.
How are you feeling, Anne, ? I guess weather is colder up there. Hi Joanne. I will have to meet you for lunch after this ordeal is over. How is Eleni doing.?
I read on the internet about Interstidial cystitis and I had those symptoms but they have since dies down-related to fibro and can cause bleeding. I think Candice should read it. I'll tell her.
Hi Karen and LG-glad you like us. Hi Anagram. I hope I didn't forget anyone but I know you guys will forgive me because we are all in the same boat-fibro fog!!! Mima

Hey There

Candice- I am so sorry to hear about your mother..
Happy- Thanks for setting me straight about the two Grasshoppers..I guess I got confused as they both work in the medical field..So you are waiting for spring? Me too. We will have some more cool weather this weekend.
Mima- Lunch will be nice.. Eleni has her good days and bad days.. P/M me when you can come this way..
Meme- I would leave the recliner out too..
Not much going on my way..I need to get busy...Bye till later..Joanne

little grasshopper 01-22-2005 04:02 PM

Joanne - you had me confused! :) I do have two brothers and will be seeing the youngest next thursday. I was wondering how in the world you knew that! :) That got me wondering who you were :) Well, nice to meet you!

Candice - I'm very sorry for your loss. I hope you find all the comfort and peace you need right now. Dont' forget to take care of yourself as things get stressful over the next weeks.

Today has been good. I cheated a little and seem to be doing okay with it. I had ribs and broccoli at Red, Hot and Blue. As long as I avoid things like sugar, dairy and grains I'm usually okay. It's those things that kick everything in full force for me. I also got a new book that I'm very excited about. I am very sensitive to chemicals. Even perfumes can give me a horrible headache. I got a book "Cleen and Green" it's about non toxic ways to clean your house, clothes and things like that...using things like baking soda, vinegar. I have already changed my hair stuff and make up to non toxic, organic type stuff. I can't tell that it's made a difference but my doc says it's much easier to get me balanced out - and I don't seem to need to do as often now.

I'm very lucky to have a bf that is supportive of the things like this that I need to change. For example I don't do his whites anymore - I can't deal with the clorox (that one I can tell I'm sensitive top - instant headache and confusion!!) He wants them bleached so he does them himself.

The hard part will be building a new house. We want to, in a couple of years nad their will be issues with the paint and the flooring. He has allergies too so that should make it easier to get him to go with rugs and hardwoods, instead of carpeting. I have, for health reasons, become an urban hippy. Not sure I like the sound of that - but I feel better this way....

Joanne D 01-22-2005 07:07 PM

Hey There

Grasshopper- Sorry about the mixup... I am the oldest one on this board.. I will be 72 in march. That still is not a good excuse.. I don't have Fibro.. I have oa. Needless to say they both are painful. Things for me have been a lot better since I have lost the weight. I am avid walker. I won't hesitate to say I am lazy enough to dislike any other kind of exercise. I would enjoy doing it in water. It is pretty expensive to go to a spa here. The bad part about that is they are not the cleanest.. The things I like to do most is sewing , quilting. crochet and most hand crafts dealing with sewing and read...Books are my main enjoyment.I live here in Florida one mile from the Gulf of Mexico..In good weather I walk to the beach and other times I am on the T/M .I cheated a little for the past couple days.. I got myself worked up about something and stuffed my face..Not Good!!
Hello Everybody..Joanne

Tammy 01-22-2005 08:45 PM

I'll have to do that with the recliner and see if I can crawl in without falling!

Meme, I plan to go to the library and see if they have any of his books. I did find it on Amazon, but hubby just made a comment about all the orders we've been receiving lately.

Happy Canuk 01-22-2005 08:49 PM

Hi everybody.

Candice - my sympathy's to you and your family. I am so glad you went and saw her when you did.

Joanne - You are not OLD by any means. Gosh you still have a few years to go before that time.

Grasshopper - It is easier than ever to build a "green" house. All the stuff that is available - IF YOU HAVE THE MONEY!!!! It doesn't come cheap. I hope you are able to do it.

well, it was a beautiful day here today, and will be again for a couple of days, and then we will be back to winter, I guess. A reprieve is always appreciated though. Everybody have a nice evening.
