New here
Hi Happy Canuk and all...thank you for the invite to join you! First question what is guided mode and enhanced mode? See what a newbie I am? hehe So how are you guys? I was diagnosed about 7yrs ago now with Fibro, Hypothyroidism and Menopause a few yrs before that. It all began when I turned 35. Love them genetics coming into play! I'm 45 now. I am on Zoloft, Flexeril, Synthroid and HRT's. I joined Curves (workout club) last month and am following their diet. this past week was not a good one for me, lots of pain and no workouts. Got a massage, which helped except the day after if was more pain-then it got better. soak in the jacuzzi, use heat therapy a lot. I just got a referral from my Dr. to go to a Pain Mangement Clinic. Anyone know anything about them? My hubby is in the Army so I have to go thru the Army docs and talk them into doing research on my behalf and trying new things with me. But I couldn't talk her into letting me try Cynbalta. She said I'd have to get it thru the Psych doc.
I've talked too much. Thanks for listening and I really look forward to hearing from you guys. and how do you add an image in these? Pixie |
Pixnpink - I too am hypothyroid, and am hypoglycemic and have a low pineal gland (which basically means my whole endocrine system is a little wacky.....I'm working hard to get it straight) I can completely understand what you're going through though....
Now about that massage. I'm a massage therapist. I can tell you that it's really hard for theraists to find the right amount of pressure to use on a Fibro patient...because the day of the massage, it feels great, but the next day - you get exactly what you said...more pain. If it was more pain that it was worth you might want to mention it to them and ask to try less pressure. A good therapist will work with you to find the massage that works best for you. I love a good deep massage and it's very hard for me to feel like I gained anything form a light massage - but hard work leaves me feeling like I got hit by a truck the next day!!! I can't take it anymore! |
Zoloft and Flexeril BOTH? That would leave me feeling like a zombi. :yikes:
Tammy ... you may get in that recliner and not be able to get out with just one hand!!! Snow here ... and cold ... only 17 right now. I'm feelin' it! I've been eating too many rich foods and sweets lately. That may be part of what's making me hurt so much worse. I think I'll watch it more closely next week & see if I feel better. I hate watching what I eat, though. YUCK! Some friends came over and brought KFC and choc. cake tonight, last night other friends called and asked us to go out and eat with them (I got a steak so didn't do too badly there) and I'm sure we'll go out and eat with friends from church tomorrow ... probably TWICE! It's really hard to watch what I eat with friends like that! :p Mima ... waiting is always the hardest part I think! |
Hi everyone-LG-ok if I call you that?-I went through the allergic to everything phase. Went to homeopathic doc and he put me on a bunch of vitamins etc. Immune system on overload!! I am much better now. But definitely watch out for new materials. When we moved in with new carpet, I was bothered. Wheat and milk definitely bother me-pains-congestion-sinus trouble. When I was bad, I bought 2 expensive air cleaners-one for my bedroom and one for the classroom. They definitely helped.
MA is getting a blizzard! Sunday school, church, lunch with family, tonight is Patriots game. Our church bulletin said that we were having a mission in April and it's led by the priest that I have been wanting to hear for 2 years. And my friend that told me about him will be here. She and her husband had a house built near here and they come and go because they have 3 elderly parents in MA. I work with her in Northampton. Well-I have been up since 4. Bad pattern. Maybe after tomorrow I can sleep. I am not as worried because it's probably something simple. Kids are worried-their dad died from cancer but he didn't take care of himself. Besides, I feel great!!!The symptoms that I had are gone -that's why I think it was fibro related. My whole life, I have thought I had a UTI and it was negative. The pressure!!! Bye for now. Mima |
Hi guys,
Happy canuk - you're right about the "if you have the money" part of a green house!! It's stupid how expensive it is to live a "simple" life - without chemicals and harsh stuff!! I do the best I can at the time. I've set goals for this year - things I want to have by the end of the year. Right now the biggest priority is a water filter - North Carolina has the highest level of copper in our water. Any kind of heavy metal is believed to AT LEAST make fibro symptoms worse..not to mention increase depression. I have well water but it's questionable as to whether or not it's deep enough. So I'm getting a good water filter system. I also want to get a good air filter system by Air Source. I borrow the one from work on a lot of weekends or when a co worker goes out of town....besides my issues - BF doesn't snore when I use it! Mima - of course you can call me LG :) When I first started the allergy thing, if I cheated at all I REALLY paid!! My stomach would get so sick. Now, not so much. I stay away from grains, except for rice because it seems to take me a long time to process them. and NO dairy. I can really REALLY tell when I have dairy. The worst for pain right now though is milk chocolate. I found a dark that I can do, but milk chocolate will make my neck sieze up on me and it takes days and a lot of valium for it to relax and finally adjust. That's what I was dealing with all last week. I caved during PMS and had a candy bar :) I have begun cheating a little this week because I'm going on vacation with family and there is NO way I'll be able to eat "clean" with them. If I'm not slightly use to cheating I'll be sick the whole time. I'm going to try to go through without meds - but I'm taking them with me just in case. I've only used them one time in the past 6 months...that was this past week. NO MORE CHOCOLATE! So sad. soo soo sad. |
good morning
Hi Ladies...little grasshopper, thank you for your message and I appreciate your advice. the massage gal i have is very soft and uses the Swedish Massage. She has lots of Fibro pts too. She called me the next day cause she had warned me that even with gentle massage I could hurt the next day. She recommends I have a massage every three to four weeks.
Meme-I take the Zoloft at night and also the Flexeril at night before bed, if it's bad. So I wake up refreshed usually, mentally. And physically-gotta stretch before I can get moving. If I have to take the Flexeril in the day, I'm a Zombie too! I hope you all have a nice day! Stay Warm! Pix |
Pixie, I belonged to Curves a couple years ago. I loved it! I can't imagine being able to do anything there now with all of my aches.
I take Flexeril at night. Since I had the surgery on Thursday, I haven't taken any, but I'm on Vicodin when I need it for pain. |
Good morning-finally, the test today!!!I am feeling pretty confident that it's nothing bad. After church, we met everyone at Bob Evan's . That cutie Evan!!!!Went home and had a 2 hour nap! and watched the Patriots win . What a great game!!!I think I'll go to Beall's outlet this afternoon and get my senior discount on items for my house. To go with my Walmart pictures. It's getting there. Going to make a couple of wreaths etc. By the way, check with the YWCA for classes sponsored by the Arthritis assoc-I think that you don't have to join to go to them-just pay a fee. Too cold here to swim-I put my plants in Brad's screen house so they wouldn't freeze. He says it looks like a jungle. Bye for now Mima
|
Candice, my sympathy of the loss of your mom. Never an easy time. Hugs!
Mima, I hope all is well in your test today. Hi to the newbies since I've been here. DH has been sick so much lately but mostly w/a cold, sinusy, respiratory thing. Most of the last five weeks actually. And it can't be helping the kidneys. Doubled his Procrit and had lots of other tests again. Seeing nephrologist Wed. Not expecting good news. But I'm better with it now as he seems to be accepting that it's time for the next step. He's worked so hard at not going back on dialysis I didn't want to have him devastated by the news. I'm having so much to do, I'm feeling like I'm Meme just nothing fun. Sorry haven't caught up on all posts. Joanne, hope all's going well for the wedding. Lots of wriggling around to adjust when there's a new family member even when we're really happy about it. We lucked out on the snow this weekend. Were expecting 8-12, only got about 6. Quiet weekend otherwise - defrosted upright freezer in basement, carrying boxes of food out to garage since it was freezing out there. Didn't have to rush the job that way and it was bad from when DH had left door open for a while. But lots of up and down stairs so that was my exercise. Enjoying tai chi classes so far but not really able to do much of it at home as can't remember steps. Must get a tape or something. Like it though. |
Good morning all! Here I am on a Monday morning sitting at the computer instead of at work. Of course I knew I wasn't going to be at work to day. I haven't been there since Thursday morning. The Dr. thinks I have Whooping Cough. I don't think I do, I think it's just a bad cough, but another teacher at work recieved a positive diagnosis so the doc and I aren't taking any chances.
I have a question for everyone. Do any of you sleep with a cpap? I had a sleep study this past summer and while my sleep apnea wasn't bad enough to qualify, the doctor thought it would still help me so I tried it for a month. I liked it so I bought one. In the evening I take Flexeril and Mirapex. Those combined with the cpap seem to help. I actually wake up sometimes feeling refreshed. Unfortunately I'm still tired most of the time and I hurt all the time but it's nice to wake up feeling good. Anagram- I took tai chi for a while and loved it! Unfortunately my gym stopped offering it. I've forgotten most of it and keep telling myself I need to get a tape and start it up again. Have a great day everyone! |
Candice, I am so sorry about the loss of your mother. I missed that part of the post. This medicine is making me not be attentive. Losing a loved one is never easy, but losing your mother is especially hard, at least it was for me. Hugs and prayers are with you.
Mima, we didn't know which team to root for! Matt Light is from real close to us and he plays for the Patriots. His mom and I used to go to Curves together, and his aunt was my son's music teacher in elementary. The Steelers have Ben Rothlisberger (no idea how to spell it), but he is from a couple hours north of us where some friends live, and his alma mater is Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. That's where I went to school. Anagram, I just received a book with a CD about tai chi from Amazon. Haven't been through the whole thing yet, but I'm looking forward to getting started soon. Karen, doesn't it feel weird to be home when you know you are supposed to be at school? I keep going through the schedule thinking about what the kids are doing right now. |
Another cold day in Tennessee ... got down to 16 last night. I sure hope the groundhog stays in his hole and dosn't see his shadow next month ... Burrrrrr. The weather man just said it's going to warm up ... I said yea ... but then he said rain ... boo! :p
My driveway alarm is driving me nuts. A man called and is supposed to come look at a trailer. I turned the alarm on so I'd know when he came and it keeps going off when no one is here. Must be the birds or something. I don't think I could wear one of those things at night. It'd drive me crazy and I don't have that far to go. ;) I can't even stand to have the heat or air blowing on me. When we stay in a motel, I make hubby sleep on the side where the air unit is and then turn my back to it. Besides that, I'm on so much medicine that dries me out, that's all I need is something to dry me out even more! Sometimes I wake up at night and my mouth is so dry inside I can tap my tongue with my fingernail and you can actually HEAR it click. No joke!!! I'm that dry. I keep a bottle of water on the head of the bed at night and mints and cough drops in my purse and pockets. We spend a fortune on Dasani. Yuck ... I hate waiting on people! Have the TV on (something I rarely do during the day) ... how do people sit and watch these soap operas day after day ... so boring and SILLY. Talk about overacting! Watch out Tammy ... you might get addicted to those while you're off from school! :D (Actually ... I used to watch Days of Our Lives a lifetime ago) :p |
Hi
Hi there...
Tammy thanks for writing. I take Flexeril too and it helps. To all...What also helps me sleep better lately is I heared, read somewhere that sleeping on a down topper helps some sleep better so I doubled up my Down comforter and I sleep on top of it. It's really helped the past few nights. Today I went to workout at Curves and right now I am so hurting. My lower back is screamin' and between my shoulders! yeeouch! Both areas were really bad last week and I didn't work out. Still giving me problems. I need to takee soem Flexeril but have to wait till I pick up my son from HIgh School. I'll be glad when he can drive himself...this April! yeah! Can anyone tell me how to add the ticker in? I tried it but I must not have some settings right cause only the code for it shows up. I appreciate it! Pix |
Hi guys, There are a lot of posts today. I'm still getting to know you all so please do not be offended if I don't respond directly.
Last night was horrible! I have been eating on this ultra clean, allergy diet. I'm leaving for vacation this week to see my "ever the southern cook" grandmother and I know there is no way I can stay on my diet while I'm there. The problem is that I get sick when I cheat. So I decided to introduce some of the foods I know I'll have there - so it's not such a shock to my system. I did well with it. UNTIL I decided to have a glass of wine. I'd had a glass at new years and was fine...but since I only wanted to drink a glass I decided to get a cheap bottle. That was my mistake. Cheap wine is sometimes very cheaply made..... At 3:30 this morning I woke up in horrible pain! It felt like my liver was revolting. I started throwing up and would have sworn I'd had clorox to drink. This continued until 7:00 am and then it was just horrible cramping in my upper stomach/liver area. That continued almost every hour on the hour until 3:00 this afternoon when I finally got one of the docs to pull my stomach back down (your stomach will "climb'" upwards during times of stress..or poison from bad wine :) ) I feel better now but it made for a horrible and long day. I still had to see clients and had to act like nothing was wrong. I'm so glad to be home!! I know what you guys mean about being dry skinned and mouthed!! I keep water by the bed too and always end up needing to get up to get more! See you later tonight! |
Hey There
Wow we are getting a large family here,Great.I am one of the people that keeps water near by at night. DRY is not saying it all. It is drink and go to the bath room!!
Anagram- When my son got married the first time ,I did it all. I even made the brides gown and most of all the other gowns worn.. I bought mine. I cooked all the food served and everything that went with it. All the expences were mine..The brides parents refused..There was way over 100 guests.I am not sure how to absorb this time. But I am thankful..I could do more then than now..25+ years makes a big difference. Grasshopper Wine gives me awful headaches.. Sulfites ..Enen good wine ,I can't drink.Have a nice vacation. Welcome pixnpink. My daughter bought us a memory foam topper for our bed.. It is wonderful.. Before we were hurting all the time and not getting much sleep. Now I just want to stay in the bed in the morning. Before I was always up early because I couldn't stand the bed any longer..You can buy the 2 inch ones at sears.. If you type in memory foam mattress on your search it will take you to a site that sell them We have a 4 inch one . They also come in 6 inches.. They are mush ceaper there than in the stores.. Meme- I like your discription of dry mouth.. That is so true.. We had cold last night and more tonight. Then it will warm up to 60 tomorrow.. Candice- I hope you are doing ok.. I know it is bad now but every day will get better... Mima- How did the test go? Hello everybody I missed..Joanne |
Joanne ... that was an ACCURATE discription of MY dry mouth. I wasn't joking. You may think I was kidding about being able to actually hear my fingernail tapping on my tongue but it's really that dry. I know that's hard to believe but there won't be one drop of moisture in my mouth and my tongue will be hard. First time it happened it scared me to death.
There are little pictures above the box where you type your message ... right after the B for bold I for italics, U for underline and right, center and left justify stuff. See them? The first one looks like a little postcard ... when you put your cursor arrow over it, it will say, "insert image." If you want to post a picture, you click on it, a box will pop up and you would type in the location of where the picture is stored on the internet. But you have to have the picture stored somewhere on the net for this to work. The next picture is for hyperlinks ... if you want to direct someone to another page on the internet, you can click on that image. Two boxes pop up this time, in the first one you can type the name of the place they are going to (this isn't necessary if you don't want to) and in the second box you type the URL (web address) of the page you want them to see. Then the third one is for an email link - it also has 2 boxes - type the name in the first one (or cancel it out) and type the email address in the second one. You can also upload attachments from your computer to 3fc by clicking on the "Manage Attachments" button below and then click the browse button and choose your picture. But when you do that, your picture is small. Hope this helps. My daughter is having surgery tomorrow... hernia. I have to take her in at 9:30. Then I'll have to go get the kids from school and give them baths, feed them and do homework and then take them home at bedtime. It's going to be a very long day! Hope Candice is ok. Pix ... if you type your hyperlink in the box right, your picture should look like this: ;) http://www.3fatchicks.com/weight-tra...b/179/128/176/ |
Good morning. I had the cystoscopy and boy did it hurt!!! ONly a local. Anyhow-I have urethral diverticulum which is a pocket in my urethra. They did a biopsy and that's what hurt the most. He put me on antibiotics but I still have to have a ct scan WITH dye-they should have done that before. Then a follow up visit. At least everything is a week apart. Hi to all the new people-Alabama, Nort Carolina and Kansas. We are covering a lot of states. We will have a new thread every week!!! Good!!The people at home got clobered with snow-it's just cool here. Heat wasn't working right yesterday because breaker was off. Brad just asked me what was for breakfast and I told him he should have said what do you want for breakfast!! He has gotten spoiled. We were up at 4:20!!! Bye for now Mima

Got a call yesterday that the chest xray dh had done Thursdy shows he has pneumonia. Gee, fellows, what's the hurry in letting us know? I had called Friday to ask about it and a question about a medicin but no one got back to me. Had the med question answered (when I asked it again) during the xray phone call but I don't think otherwise anyone was going to get back to me on it. He was being treated for it anyway, I guess, because they said to continue doing what we're doing but have another xray in three weeks. Going to see a couple of other doctors in that time so we'll just see but there's no refill on the antibiotic and if he's not done coughing, etc. by the time that's gone, I'll probably be back on the phone. I hate feeling like a pain in their b... but sometimes you just have to do it. This guy's one sick puppy.
Not ating badly, just not low enough to lose. Also not getting in enough exercise although some days I am in just plain running around in this house. Que sera, sera for now. Hope your daughter comes through great, Meme. Joanne, that was a tremendous amount of work you did for your son's first wedding. I think mine would still be single if I had to do that much. |
Hello, I stumbled across this thread this morning while browsing. I have several questions??? Are there certain foods that all of you avoid? Is there anything that you know of that brings on the cycles of pain? I have been suffering with what I call my cycles of pain for about 10 years now. The Drs. have been less than helpful. They look at me and what they see is a very large person complaining about sore ankle and feet mostly and I am sure they think, "Why the He-- does she think she is hurting/" Anyway, they gave me vioxx that almost killed me, then celebrex, and then took me off of it.
It just seems that there is no end to this misery. Right now I am walking on feet that feel as if I am walking on shredded glass, so miserable!! I use a wheelchair when I must, but that is no fun either. I am sure you all know about the pain. Losing weight has become another problem. I have gained a good bit of weight since I got where I couldn't exercise or do a lot of housework etc. I am trying to lose some, but it don't want to go!! If any of you have suggestions of how I can help myself, please tell me! :write: |
Hi guys. Seems to be much warmer outside today. to all of those sick and caretaking for the sick - I hope you are feeling much better and stronger soon. Both can take the life right out of you!!
Iwillbe - I'm new here too. I think that the cycles are different for everyone - at least from what I can tell. Mine is really related to the foods I eat and chemicals I come in contact with. I can USUALLY keep the pain down to a dull roar by staying away from dairy, grains (except brown rice), sugar, I now know wine is a problem too :) and some night shade veggies. But I might be an exception the the rule. My diet is VERY strict but I do much better on it than off of it, so I stick with it. The hardest part for me is figuring out how to exercise. I contantly over do and hurt myself - than have to rehab and don't wait long enough. Anyway, I hope that helps! I'd better get to work..new client today and then I get to get MY massage ;) |
LG, drink good wine the next time!!!!
Mima, tell Brad whatever he is fixing is what you'll be having for breakfast. lol Welcome to all of the new people! I haven't been here long myself, at least I don't think so! My memory is fading fast. |
Don't post here. Go to the new thread Fibromyalgia #134 :dizzy:
