Hello Ladies

I FINALLY had my blood work done yesterday. My Dr. ordered just a fasting blood sugar for now-I guess he'll follow up with a GTT if he feels it's warrented. I'm still doing pretty well with my food-had a couple of down days recently, but I'm back on track.

H: I'm glad you're here. This is a great thread, and you'll find a lot of love and support here.

Hope everyone is doing well. :grouphug: HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

loofah 11-24-2004 07:02 PM

well if the standard testing is two tests over 7 then I am a diabetic. My first one was 7.7 and my yesterdays one was 7.1 (here in NZ normal range is 3.5 - 6)

Better but not great.

I am going to see the doc on Monday and for some reason the nurse still thinks I need a GTT

So I guess I am official and you will all see a lot more of me as my fingers love to talk LOL

Hi all!

I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes a month and a half ago-
I have been basically been going through denial and ran across your board. Just wanted to introduce myself and if it is OK with everyone join in some in the discussions.
I have about 140 lbs. to lose so I am a little overwhelmed. The doctor did not put me on meds yet but I am told if I don't get with the program that meds are the next step.
Anyway- glad to talk to people that understand my struggle.

Hi everyone,
Hi new gals, Loofah & Crime girl,
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Of course all plans of behaving went out the window. I haven't take a BS because I'm afraid to. I do well for a couple of weeks and then just fall apart. I get cramps and cravings(think menapaus has started) and I just don't stay on program. This has got to stop. I'm killing myself. I think the low carbing is a problem. The cravings go away if I have none, but as soon as I increase them, they come right back and into a binge I go. I guess that's why the doc said to just follow WW. But I'm always looking for the quick loss. Obviously that's why slow and steady win the race.

Well, I'm trying to get into the holiday spirit. Need to get the xmas stuff down from the attic. I'm usually the one who does the decorating.

Pat, glad you enjoyed your mini vac, you deserve. OP except for water. Big kudo's to you :cp:

Crime girl, do yourself a huge favor and try to get with the program NOW! I've been on meds for yrs and cant get it together. I have alot to lose also.
I've read the drugs lose their effect after taking them for yrs and I think I'm to that point. There is alot of support here. I wish I had this support yrs ago when I found out I had type II because I was young and didn't take it seriously from the get go.

Well, I hope everyone has a good weekend.
ttyl

Hi again everyone!
Thanks for the warm welcome.
Donna- Keep telling me that would you? I just read your post and I think I need someone to tell me everyday that I am going to really hurt myself if I don't get with the program!
Well- I am happy for the support and hopefully I can get with it and not make things worse. I have to admit , it was more fun ignoring it ( ) but I guess the harder you work the greater the reward.
Hang in there everyone! Your weight loss amounts are inspirational to us newbies!

Thank you everyone as well :D I go to the doc tomorrow about the blood test results so that will be interesting. I have a feeling he will send me for a GTT anyway. I am going to talk to him about giving me a perscription for a meter and strips - I want to find out exactly what the things I am eating is doing to my blood sugar. I am getting sick of waiting around for all these tests - i just want to get started in managing my health.

I am still eating healthily - I am wondering if I am actually eating enough - with eating less carbs, low fat, not too high protein there is not a lot left ROFL

loofah 11-28-2004 02:29 PM

The scales have moved another 1.1kg down!!!!!!!!! I am loving this!!! *giggles happily* This means I have lost 2.9kg (around 6 pounds) in three weeks!!

I have also removed 1cm off my butt and two off my waist *giggles more*

This is all so worth the cutting down of food and exercising!!!

DonnaD 11-28-2004 07:14 PM

GO LOOFAH!!!!! WOO HOO :cp: :cb:

Well wanted to catch up after the long weekend. Of course we had a great Thanksgiving. I know I ate too much carbs but did manage to keep it to 1 plate and not do the 2nds thing. So I'm back OP and looking for another few pounds to jump ship.

Loofah I'm glad you have started with the healthy eating, That's going to be the key to your success. And 6 pounds is a great start. :bravo: Make sure to keep everyone posted we love to cheer eachother on. :cheer:

Crime girl we have all been to the place where you are now. It's hard to accept that your whole life has to change. Ad even harder to do on your own. So I'm glad you found us. Coming here has helped me a great deal and it can help you to. And It's ok to vent. That's what we're here for. :^:

Well I'm glad we all had a good Thanksgiving. And the holidays are really a tough time with all the food you only see once a year. Big group Hug. :grouphug: I'll check back later.
Deb

Like you, I've been diagnosed with Type II Diabetes and I have a thyroid problem on top of things. I have 50+ lbs. to lose. My doctor recommended sugar busters to me and on this site there is a sugar busters board. I think that will be helpful. I'm not on meds yet so diet and exercise plus cutting sugar out may be the ticket. Good luck to you!

Crime girl 11-29-2004 09:26 AM

:bravo: Congrats Loofah!!!!!!!! Keep it up!! You are doing so good!

Thanks Cyl for the kind words and suggestion- I am going to look at the sugar busters board today. I started reading at the American Diabetes site and following the "diabetes pyramid" already but I am still scared I am doing something wrong. Reading all the damage diabetes can cause I think freaked me out!

Anyway- glad to be on board now and will probably be on a lot because honestly this makes me stay on track so much better.

Hope you all have a great day!

Well, I am not on medication as of yet. My doctor is avoiding that. I do have an appointment today with a nutritionist, so we will see how that goes. I have just been really trying to read labels at this time & watch the grams of sugar & carbs that I eat. But as I said, it is a little overwhelming. I do work out at a gym 3x's a week, I have been doing that for a LONG time!!!!
