Unhappy Exercises Needed - OA in both hips!

Good Morning....I'm new to this board but not to the world of weight loss. Unfortunately I've been diagnoised (spelling) with Osteo Arthritis in both hips; the left one is severely affected and the right is on it's way! I'm presently considering hip replacement for the left, but that's another story!

What I really would like to do is exercise. Can anyone recommend any exercises for the lower body that I can do without putting stress on the hip joints?????

I presently follow WW at home and I've lost 25 pounds. But without being to do the exercises I did say 2 years ago, I really am loosing at a snails pace.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Hi Linda,

Sorry about your hips - I can relate to what you are going through. My left is the killer here but I'm sure the right isn't far behind.

I've lost 30+ lbs so far over a very long time but I have to say that really has helped. When I lost the bulk of it a while back, I was walking and doing the WATP tapes (walking in place) which I believe aggravated the whole issue. I saw a wonderful program about Yoga, and it was highlighting Peggy Cappy who focuses on all ages and all levels. I'm gonna purchase the DVD. I think I need stretching and flexibility - maybe I'll be able to do cardio someday, but now I just need to do something. The site for the Peggy Cappy DVD is http://www.yogafortherestofus.com/index.html if you are interested.

I've also heard that swimming and water-aerobics are very good for those suffering arthritis. Maybe someday.

Hope you are able to find something that you enjoy! Have a great weekend!
