It might be the flu even if you had the flu shot. The weather has been so changeable here so I guess that's true for everywhere except Southern California.

Meme get better..Zithromax is a good strong one..hope it works for you! You and Happy are doing so good on this Atkins program!

Tired from cleaning, my help did not show up today, called and said she was sick....need to schedule her for two weeks again, I did all the cleaning myself and running the sweeper is very hard for me with my arms. Hope I get some sleep tonight..those cows are very noisesy!

Effenbee 11-05-2002 05:52 AM

Here are some helpful hints for when your cleaning help doesn't show up. I don't guarantee any of them

1) Flies or bees bothering you? Spray them with hairspray and they will take a quick dive.

2) Sealed envelope - Put in the freezer for a few hours, then slide a knife under the flap. The envelope can then be resealed.

3) Use Empty toilet paper roll to store appliance cords. It keeps them neat and you can write on the roll what appliance it belongs to.

4) For icy door steps in freezing temperatures: get warm water and put Dawn dishwashing liquid in it. Pour it all over the steps. They won't refreeze. (wish I had known this for the last 40 years!)

5) Crayon marks on walls? This worked wonderfully! A damp rag, dipped in baking soda. Comes off with little effort (elbow grease that is!).

6) Permanent marker on appliances/counter tops (like store receipt BLUE!) rubbing alcohol on paper towel.

7) Whenever I purchase a box of S.O.S Pads, I immediately take a pair of scissors and cut each pad into halves. After years of having to throw away rusted and unused and smelly pads, I finally decided that this would be much more economical. And now a box of S.O.S pads last me indefinitely! In fact, I have noticed that the scissors get sharpened! this way!

8) Opening brand new jars can be a feat in itself. Well, I have found a way to make it the easiest thing to do. Instead of banging a jar of jam, pickles, etc., with a knife until it loosens up, I simply reach into the drawer and pull out the handy nutcracker. It adjusts to the size of the jar and I simply give it a good twist and off pops the lid!

9) Blood stains on clothes? Not to worry! Just pour a little hydrogen peroxide on a cloth and proceed to wipe off every drop of blood. Works every time!

10) Use vertical strokes when washing windows outside and horizontal for inside windows. This way you can tell which side has the streaks. Straight vinegar will get outside windows really clean. Don't wash windows on a sunny day. They will dry too quickly and will probably streak.

11) Spray a bit of perfume on the light bulb in any room to create a lovely light scent in each room when the light is turned on. Place fabric softener sheets in dresser drawers and your clothes will smell freshly washed for weeks to come. You can also do this with towels and linen.

12) Candles will last a lot longer if placed in the freezer for at least 3 hours prior to burning.

13) To clean artificial flowers, pour some salt into a paper bag and add the flowers. Shake vigorously as the salt will absorb all the dust and dirt and leave your artificial flowers looking like new! Works like a charm!

14) To easily remove burnt on food from your skillet, simply add a drop or two of dish soap and enough water to cover bottom of pan, and bring to a boil on stovetop.

15) Spray your TUPPERWARE with nonstick cooking spray before pouring in tomato based sauces and there won't be any stains. (Key Word:- Tupperware)

16) When a cake recipe calls for flouring the baking pan, use a bit of the dry cake mix instead and there won't be any white mess on the outside of the cake.

17) Wrap celery in aluminum foil when putting in the refrigerator and it will keep for weeks.

18) When boiling corn on the cob, add a pinch of sugar to help bring out the corn's natural sweetness.

19) Cure for certain kind of headaches: Take a lime, cut it in half and rub it on your forehead. The pain will go away.

20) Don't throw out all that leftover wine: Freeze into ice cubes for future use in casseroles and sauces.

21). To get rid of itch from mosquito bites, try applying soap on the area and you will experience instant relief.

22) Ants, ants, ants everywhere ... Well, they are said to never cross a chalk line. So get your chalk out and draw a line on the floor or wherever ants tend to march. See for yourself.

23) Use air-freshener to clean mirrors. It does a good job and better still, leaves a lovely smell to the shine.

24) When you get a splinter, reach for the scotch tape before resorting to tweezers or a needle. Simply put the scotch tape over the splinter, then pull it off. Scotch tape removes most splinters painlessly and easily.

25) Now look what you can do with Alka Seltze:
Clean a toilet. Drop in two Alka Seltzer tablets, wait twenty minutes, brush and flush. The citric acid and effervescent action clean vitreous China.
Clean a vase. To remove a stain from the bottom of a glass vase or cruet, fill with water and drop in two Alka Seltzer tablets.
Polish jewelry. Drop two Alka Seltzer tablets into a glass of water and immerse the jewelry for two minutes.
Clean a thermos bottle. Fill the bottle with water, drop in four Alka Seltzer tablets, and let soak for an hour (or longer, if necessary).
Unclog a drain. Clear the sink drain by dropping three Alka Seltzer tablets down the drain followed by a cup of Heinz White Vinegar. Wait a few minutes, then run the hot water.

Just went out in a pourdown of rain to vote...my guys better win!

Now I have a sore throat. I'm sick of being sick.

Effenbee 11-06-2002 12:25 AM

Voting is over. I fell asleep before the polls closed and am now listening to the results. I guess I will have to read tomorrow's paper before I know what happened in my neck of the woods. I am glad I voted early before the rains began.

Wish I had. I usually vote early but was going out to lunch with friends. Figured I'd be back in plenty of time to vote in slow afternoon time. With one thing and another, didn't get back till dark and rain started. Plus there was a line (not too bad a line but still a line). I NEVER hit the polls when people are just coming in from work but I did yesterday. I figure that's their time - I can be there during the day and stay out of their way. But yesterday I didn't. Had a nice afternoon though.

Effenbee 11-06-2002 01:58 PM

When I was in the working world, we were allowed an hour and one-half to go vote without being charged with annual leave. I was in a car pool and we all went to vote before being driven home. The lines were over 2 hours long. Never again. When I got my own car, I took leave earlier. Now I understand they give the employees the afternoon off - anyway during a presidential election.

Hi guys-My guys won!I have a rotten cold and I got my flu shot yesterday but I have been supercongested all week and my chiro had a cold last week-no, he didn't kiss me. And I don't sleep well!!!!!!!Think it's the new hormones. Hada anice time at lunch yesterday and the quilt show-breakfast today with friends-suppossed to go out tonight with more friends but feel really rotten right now. Anyhow-we are going to get the kitchen finished but that means we have to empty whole thing before we go and Brad has to do the electrical work but oh will it be worth it to come home to a finished kitchen. I have the most beautiful blue and white curtains waiting to be put up. Bye for now. Feel better Meme. Mima

Ally0306 11-06-2002 05:14 PM

Freddie...thank you for all those hints. Maybe some day when I decide to clean, I can use them:dizzy:
Meme...How did your renter turn out? So he is a divorced clean freak...send him to my house.
I am still seeing my exbf so I guess he is now my current bf, but he has never cleaned anything in his life. However, he notices dirt in my house....
Kids are still a pain. Meme....these are the things your poor Ross has to look forward to. My son is out of school in punishment for the pot incident, and he is supposed to get his school work done on his own with input from teachers once a week. He is not a self-motivator. He is hyperactive and easily distracted. He had a negative urine screen. I don't think he has done pot more than a few times, but he is the kind of kid who gets caught right away. He got a speeding ticket right outside of school the first week he got his license. He is really a good kid, but he is getting frustrated and so am I. It is hard to have kids who are not like little tin soldiers. One of the teachers described these group of boys playfully as "just a bunch of knuckleheads". And they are. But it is so hard to get them thru school.
I have hit the candy this week. Too much stress lately.

Hi Ally0306:

I always try to post when I am sent to a site with a click of a link. Thanks Ally so I have another post to my credit. So many times they are not recorded. This should be 168 even though I should have a lot more because so many have never been recorded (or maybe someone deleted them)!

MemeToo 11-06-2002 11:13 PM

Ally...I know just how you feel...about hitting the candy! I get the same way when I get frustrated with my kids (or...their kids!) only I ususally crave something salty, like chips!!!

Mima...oh I hope you don't have what I've had the last couple of weeks. My throat is killing me and the whole right side of my head is all stopped up and in PAIN!

My hair is falling out! I guess it is the methotrexate. I went to the salon today (didn't feel like it but I've had this appointment for over 2 weeks and hated to miss it) and the beautician said she thought it would come back in. She started me using Power Plus...it's a shampoo, conditioner and Nutrient Supplement. I hope it works. I had her trim it but not short, I'm trying to let it grow out. I'm hoping by summer it will be out long enough I can wear it up...kind of hide the 'bald' spots!!! This is really killing me...I've always had so much hair...more than most people!

I have finally caught on to what this sentence means in the click-on email I get:

There may be other replies also, but you will not receive any more notifications until you visit the board again.

Yours,

I was puzzled because my name Effenbee or Freddie was not mentioned in the previous reply. I thought that was when I was notified.

Post 169 coming up.Going to TOPS meeting this morning.

Hi-I am feeling a bit better because I got a good night's sleep. I read on a site yesterday that Femhrt can interfere with thyroid med. We'll see what the blood test says. I am going to get some zycam this am. It's suppossed to shorten the duration of a cold. Anyone try that. Meme-your head sure sounds like a sinus infection . Feel better soon. Ally-my son was diagnosed with oppostional disorder. Did some real dumb things as a teenager. My guess is that they have to suffer the consequences of their actions. Bye for now Mima
