  • Ally...I would LOVE a day when I didn't have "things to do" wouldn't you???

Yes...I like the Gaithers. They are not my favorite group but I like a lot of the songs they have written...is it "have written" or "have wrote"... sometimes I think my brain is just 'plumb' fried!!!

I cleaned house and washed clothes all day and then cooked dinner for the evangalist and his son (because they went fishing with hubby and came back here before church). Then I cleaned up the kitchen. I wasn't going to go to church, even though this is my absolute favorite minister in the world and I LOVE to hear him speak!!! But, while I was cooking dinner I thought...why should I miss going tonight...Mom is able to stay here alone if she'll stay in bed and behave herself. So...I just put it to her. I asked her if she thought she'd be ok alone for a couple of hours. I played it smart and asked her in front of the preacher!!! What could she say! So...I got myself ready and went. I'm soooo glad I did. He is so good and I needed a break!

Gotta get to bed...I have company coming from North Carlolina tomorrow!!! Two of Mama's sisters and their husbands. Gonna be a looooong day!
  • Sounds like no hour in the sun for Meme

Ally I worked in the yard today and sat down to rest several times ,some in the sun and when I got to hot moved to the shade...I was working in the sun( weeding and mulching another flower bed.) What are British comedies??????????

Joanne..my Dh gets up at 5 every morning and that is when I go lay down then I get up when I wake up unless I have somthing scheduled for the day. I could never handel Meme's load!

Mima..we will never learn what we can and can't do! 40 is cold!

Here is a picture of my son and his girl before the big fight!
  • Hello
Ally- We watch the Grand Ole Opry on the the country music channel. It is live every sat at 8 pm. They might not carry it in NY.
    Joanne
  • Good for you Meme. Hope you had a good break... And actually I like to have a weekend full of things to do otherwise I get a little down. I have a hard time just sitting down and relaxing. I do it in the sun and say it is to get a little color on my legs...otherwise I would have to be moving all the time.
Candice....I thought that was YOU and your son. Nice looking boy.
Joanne.....We might get the Grand ole Opry, I will have to check. The British Comedies are Keeping Up Appearances (hoity toity british woman who is trying to act like royalty and always fails) and As Time Goes By (Judy Dench.....late life romance). Then there is Red Green from Canada.
But it wasn't on last nite...it was performances for the queen (ho hum..not rock stars) so I watched Mystic Pizza which was Julia Roberts first flick. I saw it in the theatre and knew she would go somewhere...but ironically she weighed about 20 pounds more than she does now. I think she looked better!!!
  • Hey
Candice- Like Ally ,I thought at first it was you and your son. They say that sons usually pick girlfriend/wives like their mothers. It didn't happen with my son.
Ally I don't think we get any of those shows down here. But I seldom watch comedy. I seldom watch TV. The things they have on now don't interest me. I like a good movie, but, if my hubby doesn't like it .Well, you know how that goes. He usually has the control in his hand. Once in awhile I will tell him "touch that button and I will break your arm."
Meme,Good for you. You will have to vary your tactics so your mom will not catch on. You need the time out. Don't do everything for her. You will find that she can do more than she wants You to know about. She needs to do for herself or she will never move back into her home. She still has one good arm/hand. She can learn to use it if she wants to. I hope you don't think I am being harsh. I just have seen a lot of this. Is help coming in to help you. Like from home health services. They can send an aide to give her her daily care. Her medicare should pay for it. I hope so for your sake.
Hello Mima. Golf in the rain? I hope you didn't get sick.
    Hey Happy..
    Bye..Joanne
  • The nurse comes 3 times a week and she has Physical Therapists and Occupational Therapists every week. She would hate having someone come in to give her a bath, etc....and so would I if I was in need of help! Guess we are alike in one way, anyway!!! Although I've tried all my life NOT to be like my mother!!! The difference is, though, that I would do it myself or die trying! I told hubby the other night that I know I could do a lot more with just ONE arm than she can do with one and a half.

I went to church twice today plus had out of town company and seeing to her needs...and now I am completely out of steam! Gotta go to bed! (Unheard of at 10 p.m. for me). Guess my late nights will have to cease for awhile! Hope you all had a good weekend. I really enjoyed the 3 times I got to hear David...he is soooo good!!!
  • Hi
Good for you Meme-I'm glad you enjoyed the minister-we were so tired yesterday that we only went to breakfast, church, and took a long nap. We got home late Sat. night-the Gaither concert was 4 and a half hours with only a short intermission and it was wonderful. For 20$ each!!!!!Today I can get organized again. I am not feeling the pressure I had before. The house is not going to be finished by our cookout but we will be sane. The British comedies are on PBS-I love Hyacinth etc. I have watched them in FL. We paid for a satellite dish and the company went out of business-with our money. They are supposed to follow through by June 10-oh yeah-that's today. then i call the Mastercard and dispute the charges.and reorder. It's going to rain every day except today so I better finish the yard. Massage tomorrow so I can be sore and get relief. Hi all!!!Mima
  • Hi everyone

Sounds like everyone is so busy. I spent the weekend helping hubby take down the deck, not much help I'm afraid, and going to garage sale with daughter and grandkids.

Planted a few flowers in baskets for the yard. Cannot do much
as we are getting alum. siding done in a few weeks and have
moved all the plants from around the house.

I am still sleeping a few hours every day. It seems to help some.

Step daughter and son in law planning a visit but haven't given
us a date yet, they usually arrive the last week in July or first week in August. Daughter coming around 26 of June likely for a week to 10 days, she has summer class at UBC. So far no word of son coming this summer.

I am not ready for any of them. The contractors are coming in to
re do the bathroom on June 24, so this will be a close call.

June 24 is full moon, hubby says I can sit in new tub and howl at the moon, lol.

Do any of you ever go into Chat ??? I don't see you there when
    I go in.

We could have a Fibromyalgia Room.

It's so much better than this message stuff.

This is our 3rd day of rain. We were having drought conditions.
N.D. has had a lot and it is coming North to us. Expect about 36 inches in next 24 hours.

In Saskatchewan, basements are flooding, hope they are getting some of this where the fires are in Northern Alberta.

  • Good morning everyone
Hi. I can finally come up for air On Friday, I was feeling pretty good, so I decided to clean up my house. I washed the floors and cleaned bathrooms, dusted etc. Friday night I started to hurt like crazy and Saturday morning found me in my back brace and neck support! Saturday afternoon, my brother and sister-in-law arrived. We did go out for dinner, and then we came home and played cards. My brother is a diabetic and has serious heart problems, along with other health problems. Anyway, he woke up Sunday morning not feeling well, so they decided to stay another day. They are on holidays and heading to British Columbia. I am actually glad that they did stay an extra day - I quite enjoyed the visit. They just left 1/2 an hour ago. I sure hope he will be ok. My back started to feel better, and on Sunday I knew why - a wet, grey day!!!! Then we did go to the mall to walk, and I walked past those blasted candles that are scented and I ended up with a headache. Then, to top it off, I had a really rotten sleep last night - you know those nights when you don't think you slept! Might have to have a nap this afternoon. Don't usually sleep in the day, as I can never fall asleep.

Serenity - Sounds like you are one busy lady. Lots of stuff going on. All of this before company arrives. I guess we are all the same. Seems like we are all a bit like the energizer bunny
I wish they would get some rain in northern Alberta. That is the biggest fire that Alberta has ever had, and they don't have a hope of stopping it without rain. We have also had so much wind, I am sure that doesn't help either. I live in Red Deer, halfway between Edmonton and Calgary (100 miles to either city) I have never been in the CHAT ROOM. Don't even know where to find it. Are you on MSN at all as I like to talk on the headset. It looks like we are in for a really nice week, weather wise. How about you?

Meme - glad you got to do something you really, really enjoyed. That is great. I hope your mom is able to regain the use of her hand. I know I would be like you - getting on with it and learning to do as much as I can - but then again, I am 56 not in my 70's. I think that may make a difference, and then again, every person is very different. I agree with you about the bathing as well. As long as you are able to help her, then you should. It probably wouldn't be easy for her to allow strangers to help her.

Candice - We are going to have to tie you up and keep you OUT of that garden. You are going to really hurt yourself. I want to know how your arm is doing? You haven't really said . Nice picture of your son and girlfriend. I thought it was you as well. You should be flattered that we all think you look like you are in your 20's

Joanne - You give such good advise. I don't think anyone would ever be offened by what you offer. It is just common sense. Hope you have gotten some rain, down your way. It is sure trying to rain here, but all we seem to get is a little shower and then it is gone. Not near good enough for the farmers.

Mima - You are right! You don't have to get it done at any particular time, just take your time and enjoy doing it. Glad you enjoyed your concert. Sounds like you had a relaxing day yesterday.

Ally - I watch those same things on Saturday night. I LOVE the English humor. Both of those are good. Do you think the weather has something to do with the migranes. My girlfriend has them all the time and they are related to the barometric Pressure.

Well everyone, Candice will acuse me off writing a novel, so I had better stop! Hope you all have a good day.

    .
  • I'm sorry but I just really feel like, even if I was 100, I would do it myself if I at all could or die trying! Just stubbornness I guess! I really hate having someone wait on me!

As far as chat rooms go...I used to do that a lot but I like this forum better...this way, I can read what everyone else has to say anytime and add my own two cents worth when I have time! (Candice would probably say I added 5 cents worth sometimes!!!)

The Physical Therapist just left and I could tell Mom didn't like him and she probably won't do what he told her to. She just doesn't get it! The exercises are to help her but she thinks they are just a waste of time and she says she's just too tired, etc. Hubby MADE her get up and do some of them yesterday morning. Sometimes I just don't see how in the world she could even be RELATED to me...let alone my MOTHER!!! We are so totally different in every way!!! I would be more likely to over do the exercises!

I haven't been sleeping a lot lately, either. I just have a lot on my mind right now. The stress of the situation is huge and I can't see an ending in sight yet. I'll lay down and go to sleep one of these days and not wake up for a week!
  • Meme
Meme, I am a lot like you - I always push myself to the limit and over. Perhaps that is why we have FM and all this other stuff as well. Perhaps the people who DON'T demand so much of themselves are less stressed! It sounds like your Mom just doens't care at all. That is too bad, because it is going to drive you crazy. I guess, I would have a little talk with her, and tell her if she doesn't do what she is supposed to, then she will have to return to the nursing home, where they can look after her and see that she does it. I feel sorry for you because I know that you are also worried about her - but on the other hand, you would like to give her a push and get her moving A terrible situation to be in, really.

Serenity, I don't have any idea where I found the Canadian Flag, but I will post it here. Feel free to use it. I have to go convert it to a JPG
  • Serenity
Here is the Canadian Flag . If you want it bigger, just let me know.
  • Hi girls

Thank you for flags but I don't know how to get them by my name.

To get to the chat - go to the top of the page where you type the reply = there is a chat line there and you click on it to go to the chat entrance page. You may have to sign in but likely not as you are already signed in to get here. I usually go in there around 7 am every day.

We also watch the English comedys - we get them on Public TV every night at 10 pm. Never miss them if I am awake.

Some places in Mb. have had 107 mm of rain already. I see on
TV that ND is really bad and we will have high rivers in a week or so as the Red River flows north.

Despite this there are still 6 fires burning in northern Manitoba.
At least now, we are not getting the smoke from northern Alberta.
  • Hey There
Meme- I really feel for you- I know what you are going through. Happy is right. Your mom will only become more dependent on you if you let her. It is not easy, ever, for family to deal with these situations. For your own health you have to be stronger than she is. I mean mentally. Strangers can probably get her to do more than you can.
Happy- It is raining all around me. This has been a set pattern for several years. My hubby keeps watching the weather station looking for the rain. I tell him when it comes he will know it. I hope you are feeling better by now. Pain is a awful thing to have. The injection has helped the steady pain I was having, but, the knee moves around in there and gets out of socket. It is just blinding pain till I can get it back in place. I hope I can hold out till after the first of the year and all the Holidays are over.
Serenity- Looks like you are doing what we did a couple years ago. We had siding put on a back room and painted the house,Put on new fasia and sofits. What a difference. We put on a new roof a few years ago. That will last till we are dead and gone. I used to go into the chats but have not too much lately. No one is usually there. When they were it seemed like they were just fooling around with no set subject.
Hello Mima..I hope you are enjoying your summer.
    Hello Candice...Ally...Bye..Joanne
  • I go into chat sometimes but never at 7AM!!!!!!!!

Well..I have never heard of this British TV but then we don't ahve cable just the local ones and there is enough on there for me to watch! If we ahd more stations I would be in feron of the TV all the time or thinking that I had missed a good show!

Cleaned today so I am bushed and sore, climbed up and down the ladder outside doing the kitchen window. (took the screens and storm glass out and did the curtains too!) Now I can see outside again! The gal that helps me clean brought her 8 year old on along today since he is out of school, I thought it was very unprofessional of her not to ask me or let me know. He was not a problem but I showed him how to use the computer and play games and let him use the pool table. She had to keep checking on him too so that took time and she was being paid!!!!! Dh was updet cause he was worried about him getting hurt and them sueing..men..that never entered my mind.

Last week I let 15 pts go and this week I cannot eat enough! had some really good baked salmon tonight with greenbeans and some lite choc. icecream with toasted almonds!
