  • hope everyone is staying well. Purple has your hip gotten better yet? We had a torrential downpour of rain on Saturday too. I spent a couple hours on Saturday to work in the sun and 'paint' the entire deck in waterproofer to protect the wood... so of course it rained 8 hours later Hope oxygen therapy was helpful today.

Rosebud We each (four of us) have a fan in our office. We couldnt stand working there without them!! I can't believe it's gone on so long with the heat outside -- this is not a typical Thompson August -- which is great! Thanks for the olympics update. The biggest thing I remember hearing about the games this year is that some of the fireworks shown at the opening ceremonies were computer graphics -- and that an American swimmer has to eat 10,000 calories each day just to compete!

Meowee Good to hear Sandy is doing relativly well with finding the litter box. I've had trouble with one of our three cats leaving suprises for me over night. I ended up 'giving them a room' which they ignore AND buying a ball of yarn for them to play with at night. They unroll it while I sleep and I roll it back up every morning.

I have been struggling with my routine the last week or so. I got so much work done in my yard over the weekend (the deck. grass, and I conquered my parents raspberry bushes! they were overtaking my floor beds AND the lawn.. some where 6 ft high so I pruned them down to nothing and it felt great)

Anyways... the hard yard work really took it out of me for a couple days and amped up my appetite (didnt help that I had to take a lot of naps to make up for all the work and I'm always famished after naps). Thanks for the feedback rearents. A loud squeal noise started coming from 'their tresures' in the garage and lasted for several days.. but whatever it is finally died. I am pretending the garage doesnt exist for now.

    take care all,
    Valdine
  • . . . just wanted to say GOOD MORNING, while it still is. After a terrible batch of thunderstorms last evening and overnight, this morning has been absolutely glorious -- sunny, dry, cool -- just the way I like it, although some of you may thing it's a bit too cool since it likely won't get even into the 20s (70s) today. Unfortunately, as afternoon approaches, it is starting to cloud over a bit more. Oh well.
  • HELLO LADIES ~ we are having a scorcher out there today, so I put some laundry on the line: perfect day for that. At least, we have a nice breeze so the temp has come back down into the high 70's from the 80's this morning. I have had several hummingbirds visiting my feeders today since it is so hot; they must be so thirsty. A couple of days ago, a mommy brought her baby to show it where the feeders were: it was so cute!

CANADIAN OLYMPICS UPDATE ~ as of yesterday (which was a good day for us), we now have 13 Medals ... YEAH! Alexander Depardeux (sp) got a silver in Diving; and we won two medals in Trampoline (silver and bronze, I think); a bronze in Hurdles racing; 4 x rowing; bronze in swimming; silver in Triathalon; and three others that I'm not sure of just yet. I googled the official site, but have been having trouble finding out exactly what events we have won the medals in and by whom, so I'll try to find out again today. I know they were hoping for a medal in synchronized swimming, but not sure if that event has taken place yet; and we also have some more hopefuls in equestrian, baseball, and rowing.

HIYA VAL ~ glad you found a solution for your parent's treasures; the garage idea is great; and that story is funny, but sorry about the mysterious squealing guest. Wow, you have been working hard on your yard too; glad you got some done, but it is hard work and then you are exhausted for a couple of days afterwards, but you will be rewarded for it by how nice it all looks.

HI MEOWEE ~ glad you had some nice weather for at least the morning; we had a thunderstorm Monday night while we were sleeping, but it was really nice yesterday, and tres hot today. They are expecting the same for tomorrow, so I'm sticking close to the A/C. Didn't have to use it today though; kept all the blinds down and that made all the difference.

HEY PURPLE ~ hope you are feeling better, and that your pressure treatments are helping you some. The British are doing well at the Olympics too; one lady won gold in a running race yesterday.

Doing very well keeping on plan this week; had roasted whole chicken with veggies last night for dinner; might have hamburglers tonight since it's so hot. Well, that's all the news from here for right now; so take good care, your friend ROSEBUD
  • Hi there . . .
  • HI LADIES ~ well, it really was a scorcher out there today, but we still went out to the lot today; DH had all his stuff caught up here and wanted to get out there at least one day this week. He has half the supporting wall blocks in already and thinks he'll be done in one more trip; he's doing very well. I found the heat a bit hard to bear though; and told DH that we should pick a cooler day next time.

CANADIAN OLYMPIC UPDATE ~ We did get a Silver in Equestrian and a gold and bronze in the Wrestling as well. So that brought the total to 13. Those two medals in the Trampoline were both Silvers; one female and one male. This young lady has won medals in that discipline in the past; and she's still doing great! Unfortuneately our men are out of the medal hopes in baseball, but the ladies may still have a chance. We have a young lady, Emily Caiden (sp), who is diving right now and she is in first place, so there is a hope of a medal for her; and another girl is trying for her best-ever finish so she can get a good standing, which helps them to get better support and funding for the future. DH has just reported that Emily finished her diving and got a Silver medal; so that brings our total to 14 medals that I know of right now!

HEY PURPLE ~ I hope you are feeling OK; not like you to miss posting two days in a row unless you are either away or very ill. I hope that the reason you are absent is that you are just very, very busy!

HI MEOWEE ~ hope you are having nice weather and a good day.

HIYA VAL ~ hope you are having a good week and TGIF for tomorrow: the weekend is almost here again. Maybe you'll get to rest some more this weekend instead of having to do so much work around your home.

We had some excitement when we got home; one of our neighbours has a young male dog that keeps getting lose and coming over and attacking our poor sweet NIKO (who is always on his rope); NIKO just wants to play with everyone, but this other dog wants to control and dominate NIKO for some reason; I think it's becuz NIKO is a smaller male dog, so the other one is posturing a bit too much. DH helped to take the other one back home and tie him up; he is too much for an older woman to handle when the men are away. He hasn't been trained correctly or socialized properly, so we end up with a problem dog in the neighbourhood. That's my rant for today ~ LOL!

Well, that's all the news from here; we had the rest of our roast chicken and veggies for dinner tonight. It was nice to just put it in the oven and heat it up when you are tired. Have a great evening ladies, your friend ROSEBUD
  • Hi

Been MIA for the past couple of days been rather busy. Plus DH bought a box set of a TV series called ghost whisperer and we were hooked so any spare moment we have been watching one of the episodes.

I am going to Mum and Dad's shortly so will not have time at present to answer your posts. Though I will try to do so at the weekend time permitting. With having a few moments to myself now I thought I would pop by and say hello at least.

Glad to report that this morning on my weigh in I am back to my ticker weight after 1 week of being on plan. So it definitely showed me how detrimental eating off plan was so lessoned learned. I would have imagined some of it was weight gain due to water retention due to sodium in the food we ate. Though I did not see any change in my weight until the last 3 days when it has gone down every day . So I am now a happy bunny

We hope to go into town with my mum today as she wants to look at a swimming costumes. This is because there is a pool at the place on holiday. So it will give me an opportunity to take a gander if i do not see anything I like then I will try the market in my city. I also need to pick up a couple of things myself like a tv magazine, shampoo and banana's . Can't live without my banana a day

Time to put myself into action and best feet forward and all that. Bye now and take care
  • Good Morning Everybody . . .

Busy day ahead and, of course, both temperature and humidity levels are getting way, way up there again. Scale is still stuck and since I will be having Chinese food for lunch today, don't imagine it will be moving tomorrow morning (at least not downward -- I can almost feel my cankles starting to swell already, ) Will avoid the breaded stuff, of course and go heavy on those wonderfully cooked vegetables; but not much you can do about the sodium. Hey, all we can do is our best.

    See you all later . . .
  • . . .

Hot, Sticky, Sunny . . . at least I only seem to have gone up a pound from the Chinese Food debacle yesterday -- hope I don't find more tomorrow since it can sometimes take a while.

    Have a great day, gang . . .
  • HELLO CHICKIES ~ boy, it's our turn to have high humidity, so we turned our A/C on low and that did the trick to remove the humidity out of our place. Today, it's humid again, but not quite as bad as their is a strong breeze trying to move this mass out of our area: hope it succeeds real soon. So just before lunch, we'll put the A/C on again (on low) to cut the humidity again.

RE: OLYMPICS ~ DH and I stayed up late to watch the Gold Medal Soccer match; it wasn't as good of a game as it could have been. The Nigerians really tried hard and they only lost because of one 'panicky' error by their goaltender; he came out of his net on a one-on-one. Turned out to be the fatal error as that was the only goal scored. NIGERIA was the real winner here: they showed what tuff, persistant, fair, and good sports they all were; we were more than impressed with them, and at least they went home with a SILVER MEDAL for their efforts, but they were GOLDEN in our hearts!

CANADA ~ well, our Equestrian riders won another GOLD medal yesterday, plus a Rower won another bronze, and a young lady won silver in Taekwondo, so that brought us up to 17 ... that I know of so far. We are hoping for another medal in rowing, so we'll see. Many of our athletes have come close with lots of personal bests like our Men's Relay Runners (6th) and our Off-Road Dirt Bike Racers (4th). We are proud of them all ...

HI MEOWEE ~ It's nice to go out for lunch once in a while; we love Chinese too. Hope it really doesn't affect your scales in the long run. And, it's our turn to get some hot, humid, muggy weather; sure hope it doesn't stay too long, becuz DH and I have a hard time with it ...

HEY PURPLE ~ glad to hear that you are well; and conquering those scales again. Hope you have a fun day shopping with your mom; you are blessed to have a mom to go shopping with. It's nice that you are such good friends with your parents to spend time shopping and doing holidays together too!

HIYA VAL ~ hope you are having a restful weekend at home. How's the apartment coming along???

Well, we rested up yesterday after spending a long day at the lot on Thursday; we had fish for dinner last night and probably will have pasta for dinner tonight. Spent a lot of time yesterday answering emails and writing letters to family. I also belong to a few prayer groups that I go to and pray for others each day or bi-daily as I have extra time.

Also caught up on some housechores; and did some baking yesterday ~ made a double-batch of muffins for DH yesterday and put some in the freezer for his picnic lunches which is much handier.

That's all the news from here for now, so take good care ladies; hope you all have a great weekend and are feeling well ~ your friend ROSEBUD
  • Hi Ladies

Thought I would drop by quickly as my plans to answer all your lovely posts has gone right out of the window. Unfortunately my Dad is unwell was extremely drowsy yesterday and complained of a pain in his right side. With my sister being away in Ireland we said contact us if no better. Well got the phone call this morning from Mum to say that he was in more pain. So we went straight over and picked him up. We brought him to our local hospital after he was seen by the medical staff they wish to keep in hospital to do further tests and put him possibly on a drip with anti biotics.

On a good note it does not appear to be his heart The prelimary diagnosis is at the minute is either urine infection, colic or gallstones. On a positive note he looks better than he did yesterday and not so drowsy. He also has a appetite all be it small when yesterday he did not want to eat at all. Will keep you posted as I know more so until then take care everybody and have a great weekend
  • HEY PURPLE ~ sorry to hear that your Dad isn't feeling well; will send up some prayers for him for sure. Hope he's feeling better real soon. I came by to see if any of you had come in today and saw your post.

CANADIAN OLYMPIC UPDATE ~ well, I finally got an accurate update on our athletes today. We have won 18 Medals in total; we did get another silver medal in the K-1 500 Rowing as expected today.

This is our best Olympics so far ... not counting the two boycotted games in the US (Atlanta-22 and LA-44). We also had many, many personal bests at this Olympics; and many top ten and top five winners as well. I think beyond a shadow of a doubt, this was an exceptionally successful Olympics for Canada. We are working hard to improve our amateur sport system and it is really paying off for us. Keep up the good work!

to all our wonderful, dedicated athletes: you make us all very proud to be CANADIANS!!!

Well, our humidity was at 80% today; tomorrow is supposed to go down to about 60%, and by Monday it should be unnoticeable. The good breeze out there has helped a lot to make it better (15-20 kph). Our A/C not only cooled the hot temps down, but did a great job of dehumidifying as well.

Take good care ladies; have a great evening and weekend, your friend ROSEBUD
  • Good Morning . . .

Woke up to quite a coolish one this morning, but it is sunny and still a bit humid (88%) and the temperature is supposed to get into the mid to upper 20s by this afternoon.

Have a really great Sunday, gang, and keep things moving and shaking just as much as you possibly can.
  • HI LADIES ~ Well, the weather wasn't as humid today, but we've had rain on and off which made it cooler; so we put on our small heater to get the chill out of the air. Just stayed home today and really relaxed; watched a bit of the closing ceremonies for the Olympics and worked on a puzzle.

Right now, we are waiting on our Sunday dinner: roasted chicken pieces with roasted corn and other fresh veggies too. I love having roasted chicken for our Sunday dinner, but now and then, we'll have turkey or ham too. Once in a while, we may have a nice, lean beef or pork roast for a change.

GARDEN UPDATE ~ Was able to pick another basket of green and yellow snap beans from my drums yesterday; had some for dinner and they are so nice fresh like that. The drums have turned out to be very successful as we expected. The garden is a bit behind this year, but we still hope to get lots of beans, carrots, onions, and some turnips from it yet; and maybe a few cabbage. My zucchini plants are growing great, but haven't seen any zucchinis yet??? We have one large sunflower plant growing right in the middle of the garden; a stray seed from the birds no doubt ~ LOL!

HI MEOWEE ~ sorry, that terrible humidity is still hanging around out there; most of it is gone from here now, and I'm tres, tres glad about it.

PURPLE ~ prayers for your DAD continue; and for your mom too, as I'm sure it's worrisome for all of you somewhat. Hope it's nothing too, too serious.

HIYA VAL ~ hope you are having a wonderful, restful Sunday ...

Well, not much to report here today; just checkin' in really. Take good care, your friend ROSEBUD
  • Hi there . . .

Actually yesterday turned into a wonderful day -- as the temperature went up (hit about 27/80); the humidity came down (to well below 50%) -- so it actually felt like 80 instead of the feel-like of over 35/95 of the day before.

Today . . . it's raining . . . I do have to do a few errands though so, guess I will be getting wet.

BTW, I recently got a new quilting book and it has the most adorable pieced ROSEBUD pattern in it . . . made me think of you. Now I want to start doing that . . . but I must finish those aprons first.
  • HI CHICKIES ~ We are having a lovely, sunny day; not too hot, as there is a cool breeze which makes it very pleasant. We went into town today to do a bit of shopping and errands. Picked up some fruit and veggies that we were getting low on; got in a lot of walking but now I'm paying for it a bit so I'm gonna go put my feet up for awhile before dinner to give them a rest.

Went out to check the garden and picked some more beans from the drums; probably won't get too many more from them, but then the garden should be ready just in time. The drums have been very successful and will be a keeper for sure. We plan to go up to our lot tomorrow; DH is ancy to get the foundation supporting wall all finished. We may move on to start part of PHASE THREE (the floor), if all goes well for September and October.

HI MEOWEE ~ glad you had a nice day yesterday; that quilt sounds pretty. Yes, those rainy days have their advantages too: they water the gardens for us, and we can take time to get caught up on indoor stuff, esp housechores and hobbies ...

HELLO TO VAL and PURPLE ~ hope you ladies are well. Have a great week at work VALDINE!!! Best wishes for you on that interview this week; what day is it on? Will send up some prayers for you too: what the heck, can't hurt, and will likely help, is what I say ... LOL!!!

Take good care ladies, and have a lovely evening; your friend ROSEBUD
