Default Underactive Thyroid

Does anyone else have an underactive thyroid? I found out after having my first son and gaining 20kgs within a couple of months. I cant make the weight move. Though being tired all the time doesnt help either.

Hi Shabby and Yep, I'm hypothyroid and we have a bunch of members (some are big losers ) who are hypo too. It can make weight loss challenging, for sure, but the good news is that it IS possible!

Are you on medication for your thyroid? Sometimes it takes a little patience until the doses are calibrated correctly and that can be frustrating, I know!

We're glad you found us here and are looking forward to hearing lots more from you.

Gotta take those meds to get the weight off, sweetie -- it's very important.

I set out my bottle of pills right here by the computer. Every morning when I stumble out of bed, hit the on switch for the coffeemaker, and sit down here at the computer to read 3FC, there they are. Is there some place in your house where you can put your pills so you see them and take them every day?

It's tough enough to lose weight with the proper meds. Without them, I think it would be darn near impossible. It's just part of taking the best care of yourself that you can -- and you're worth it!!

Yep, the meds will help some. I am hypothyroid too, and really struggle with losing. I am going to a new doctor tomorrow morning and I hope he can help me get back to the more energetic me.

I agree with Meg, if you can find some place to put your meds so you see it first thing, that would help. You should be taking them in the morning on an empty stomach. They are absorbed better that way. Once you get to taking them first thing, it will become a habit and you won't forget. I rarely do now, though I did at first!

Hi Shabby, I'm another one with underactive thyroid. I have always been awful at remembering to take medicine, but I don't cut myself any slack with this! As Meg said, weight loss is tough enough any way you do it, so we have to do what we can to make it work.

Monet, hope you can get some help from your new doctor tomorrow.
