Steelers lost! Im going to bed!

pattygirl63 01-05-2025 02:25 AM

Carol Sue They have moved our wintry mix to Thursday and Friday for us, but there is one hitting Dallas/Ft Worth area north of us tomorrow through Monday. I told DH we need to go to the store Monday in case it hits here Wednesday and we can't make our dental appointment. I need eggs and have a prescription to pick up at the local store. This way we could be hunkered down all week if we have to be. We just don't take the chance of falling on ice etc now that we are at the age we are.

I'm headed to bed.

Wannabehealthy 01-05-2025 09:44 AM

The Steelers, didnt need this win. They are still in the playoffs. Bhut DH said they played xxx terrible. There are 2 players that DH says they should get rid if and we have a new quarterback that isnt great. DH also wants the coach fired.

Sleep was good. 7+ hours. Scale is down .6 to 180.0. Something funny. Yesterday my food was 1515 and calories burned was 1550.

Yesterday DH was eating potato chips. He handed the bowl to me which I wish he would stop doing. I ate a few, then dumpedthe bowl on the floor. Accidentally, not intentionally. I picked them up and threw them out. If we had dip I would have eaten them..

Now they said our snow is going to start after 10 PM tonight. We are right at the point where the amount changes from 4-6 to 6-8, so who knows how much we will get. We have about 2 inches on the ground already in the yard that hasnt melted. The further south you are the more snow your getting. We havent had a big snowfor a couple years, just what they call "nuisance snow.". I like a big snow once in a while.

pattygirl63 01-05-2025 01:46 PM

Carol Sue They still say we will have our wintry mix hit Wednesday night or Thursday and Friday. DH said if it weren't for the Cowboys game we would go to the store today. Our plan is to go tomorrow just in case we get stuck due to weather sooner; although I really hope we don't get it until Thursday or at least late Wednesday after our dental appointment.

I wish DH would go to the store when the game is over, however I think the pharmacy will be closed by then. I don't know why I am so tired after infusions. I'm sure I will start feeling better tomorrow as I want to look for some things DH won't want to look for. I slept really good last night. I only got up one time to go potty around 6 am and went back to bed and got up at my usual time just before 9 am.

I'm thinking I might need to change the way I eat so that I eat small meals throughout a 10 or 12 hr eating window instead of 2 to 3 meals within 4 to 8 hr eating window and see if I feel better. My body is already working to heal itself and by adding more protein in just 2 meals makes me tired because my body is working so hard to digest it. I read about that somewhere. The key seems to be higher protein and enough fiber while in immunotherapy. So it is seems that I need to learn how to spread that over longer eating window so I can have energy. I'm just tired of being so tired. I will figure it out.

Weight stayed the same as yesterday, but FBG was 120. "Ouch" Everything else was good. Today we are having pork chops and sauerkraut. I'm not having salad right now. I told NP I've been having a mild pain and showed her where telling her I didn't know what is there. She asked if I still have my gallbladder. I figure that is the lettuce so taking a break from it right now. I've had to do that before.

Stay warm and safe everyone and have a blessed Sunday.

Wannabehealthy 01-05-2025 03:43 PM

DH went to the store and got potatoes. I wanted to go to look for a beef roast but didnt want to get dressed and go out in the cold. So no roast.

The chili was ok yesterday but I think i didnt put enough seasoning in it. I dont like a lot but it needed more, plus more tomato sauce. I havent made it for a long time. maybe I will make the soup tomorrow.

DH said the sink pipe is still leaking but to fix it he has to tear out the wall behind the sink cabinet to get to the leak. For now we will have a bucket in the basement to catch the drip, and use the sink as little as possible. I want a new house. In the last house we had a pipe issue and we moved out. We heard from the neighbors that the new owners had a problem and had to get the yard dug up. I think we were supposed to disclose the problem when we sold the house but we didnt know there was a problem, but when we were in the utility room we could hear water. It wasnt going through our water meter so we didnt worry about it. Maybe they heard the water and investigated. That house had no basement so any leak would be going into the ground.

I read about salad and gall bladder. It said greens dont effect it but it could be the dressing if the dressing has fat.

Wannabehealthy 01-06-2025 08:34 AM

Good sleep, scale down .6 to 179.4. Didnt check blood sugar. I rarely check blood pressure. DH has the meter next to his chair so its inconvenient for me. DH doesnt like to take his BP pills. One is twice a day. He would take one in the morning and another one an hour or two later. That was twice a day. I told him the second one should be 12 hours later and he saird "The instructions dont say that.". I finally got him to take it in the evening. At least he checks his. He doesnt likee it too low but its good in my opinion. I wish mine would go that low. My top number is high but the bottom number is low.

We only got a couple inches of snow overnight but its still snowing, lightly.

pattygirl63 01-06-2025 12:58 PM

Carol Sue Thanks for the info on the dressing being the problem for the gallbladder. There is no way I can eat lowfat dressing because of the sodium. I used to use Lite dressings, but that has sugar so easier to go with veggies.

I've been reading about fermented foods and how healthy they are for our bodies. I already eat some, but I love dill pickles and some other things that are protein foods. I know you like pickled eggs. I will have to learn how to make those. In the meantime there are so many others that I eat now and will continue to eat.

Weight is down .6 lbs today and FBG is back down to 103. DH said his FBG was the lowest his has been since he started keeping up with it. It was in the 90s.

It was 29 degrees when I got up. I think I saw the high is going to be 38. We are going to the local store to get whatever my medication is ready and get enough food to get us through the weekend. However, if the weather is okay Wednesday when we go to get our teeth cleaned, DH will go to Sam's after he gets his teeth cleaned while I'm getting my teeth cleaned.

I had oatmeal with a Premier Protein shake and will have my eggs for supper with the other Protein shake. I have decided to eat it everyday for breakfast in order to keep my cholesterol healthy. This also gets my fiber where doctor wants it along with the amount of protein I need. I figure if it works with a McDs Double Cheeseburger and half serving of fries, then it will work with any combo of dinner we have.

Stay warm and safe. Hope everyone keeps their power.

Wannabehealthy 01-06-2025 06:36 PM

I dont like many fermented foods except sauerkraut. I dont like pickles. DH likes pickled vegetables like cauliflower, but when i buy a jar he eats a few pieces and the rest goes bad,so I stopped buying it. I dont consider pickled eggs to be fermented but there are various ways to make them. I have a couple tall thin jars I get when i buy olives. I pour beet juice in it from a can of sliced beets then i can fit 3 peeled boiled eggs in it. T. Its healthy.he juice doesnt come to the top. I add vinegar and water if necessary to fill the jar. The juice and vinegar soaks into the egg white and makes them purple. If I eat one egg I add another. I do that for a couple days. Some people use pickle juice instead of beet juice. I tried that once but didnt like it. Luckily we both like beets so we eat the beets from the can I use to get the juice. I put vinegar on the beets, too.

I mad vegetable soup. Its good, but not my best. I use canned vegetables and 5 bullion cubes but it still needs salt. Its better for us without it but tastes better with it. DH went to the local store and got Italian bread and Cabbage. I like a lot of cabbage in it. One time I wanted to know who had the best canned mixed vegetables. I bought 5 different kinds, some store brands, Veg all,Delmonte, and put each one in a little bowl. The Great Value brand had the best mixture of vegetables. Most others had too many carrots, very little corn, very little peas etc. Sio now I always use Great Value. My mother always used VegAll. It was not the best according to my test. One time I used frozen vegetables but DH didnt like it. I didnt waste those vegetables when i tested them. I put them all in a big pot of soup. I made a lot more when the kids were still here.

I always forget about my protein shakes. I could drink one in the evening to increase my protein. I will have to keep that in mind.

pattygirl63 01-06-2025 09:17 PM

I'm bad about using too much sodium when I cook beans or soup, but then I'm taking 40 mg Lasix so I hope it won't be too bad. Temp will be high in low 40s tomorrow and then will be in in 30s for at least a week. It is definitely time for winter foods such as beans and soups and I've got soups and chili planned during this time.

Today went well, but I ate a little more than I should have especially sodium. We ended up getting tacos from Taco Bell. I will have to take it easy as I eat differently and still try to get the protein in my woe. I'm not sure it is going to bad weather here, but it will be cold. They now show that we are going to have a wintry mix on Thursday but not Friday. Being TX, I'll be surprised if we have any bad weather at all.

Goodnight.

Wannabehealthy 01-07-2025 09:09 AM

Trish,Im surprised that your temps get that low. Why are you taking so much Lasix? Im afraid to start taking mine again and dont know if I need it. I dont want to start peeing my pants so much .Why doesnt it raise your blood sugar like it does mine?

Scale up .4 . 179.8. Sleep good,8 hours even.

I think we are going to the casino today. Unusual to go on Tuesday but DH got a ticket from the day he had the hand pay for a drawing tonight. If he wants to go we will go,as long as its not going to snow.

____________
DH said he doesnt want to go today because he would rather go on Friday. I told him I dont want to go twice so he has to decide. Then if Friday comes and its snowy I wont want to go. I dont think its supposed to snow today but who knows what it will be like coming home tonight.

pattygirl63 01-07-2025 01:17 PM

Carol Sue when we get a good hard winter we get lows in low 20s. I don't know how low it got during the night in the high 20s, but it was 31 by the time I got up this morning. We have many nights this week that will be in the low to middle 20s. They show us having a wintry mix again for both Thursday and Friday.

I take that much Lasix to keep fluid from building up in lower abdomen which has something to do with very small possible tumors called ascites. Not sure about what those are but we don't want them growing. I guess I need to research that.

Weight was down .4 to 162 lbs. FBG was high so too much of something. I am amazed at how good my bp is now. So things are good. I'm still in the process of getting my fiber in the correct range for me.

We are having chicken and dumplings today. I am trying a different way of making it using one of DH#2s DGM way of making dumplings. I really like making them from scratch, but not these day. I took 3 plain chicken tenders and cooked them in chicken stock and cut them in small pieces. Then I added a can of cream of chicken soup and taking Mom's way of cutting up a can of biscuits into it for the dumplings except that I used a small can of five biscuits for just the 2 of us rather than a regular can she used for a family of us.

Have a good day and hope everyone stays warm and safe.

Wannabehealthy 01-07-2025 02:52 PM

I want to make chicken and dumplings but I want to make the dumplings the way my mother did, with Bisquick. I just dont tryst myself to dobit right.

He decided we are going today, and he probably thinks come Friday he will talk me into going again. I dont like to tell him no after all he does for me. I dread going out in the cold. Ita just a few steps to the car. He drops me off at the casino and picks me up so its not too bad. I just hope the roads stay dry.

In the past couple days I twice read that we should not eat less than 130 gm of carb. That doesnt sound right to me. When i was diagnosed in the hospital they told me to have 45 gm at each of 3 meals and 15 at each of 2 snacks. I think thats 165 per day and this was a 1800 cal per day diet. I lost weight on that but I dont know if they were really giving me 1800 calories. They were giving me pudding that I know was not sugar free. The dietician told me it was ok because it only had 15 gm of carb. That wasnt ok with me.

Guess we areleaving now.

pattygirl63 01-07-2025 03:22 PM

Carol Sue I always made my dumplings with Bisquick too, but I buy a box and it goes bad. That is why I ended up trying it with the biscuits. I will say the texture just isn't the same as with Bisquick. I've been thinking of other things I could make with Bisquick if I bought it. There are sweets I could make and use Stevia or Monkfruit which I've heard is healthier.

I also wanted to tell you that the main thing I do now that I am taking 40 g of Lasix is that I am careful to take more magnesium and I watch to be sure the reading is normal on my lab tests. I have always believed the reason DH#2 died was that a new doctor took the place of our doctor who had figured out how to help DH live with CHF. When he moved DH#2 begged new doc not to change anything, but he did anyway. He put him on so much Lasix but never put the magnesium back which the old doctor would have done. It wasn't long until DH #2 gave up and stopped going to him and died just 2 weeks later.

Hope your trip to the casino goes well. Be safe Friend.

Wannabehealthy 01-08-2025 11:41 AM

Trish,DH used to use Bisquick to make pancakes so we always had it on hand. Now he uses complete pancake mix. I did see generic bisquicck somewhere,it might have been Aldi, it was just called Baking Mix and was a lot cheaper. I also saw a very small box of Bisquick somewhere, maybe Walmart. But I cant imagine that biscuit dumplings would turn out the same.

The casino was terrible. DH got a very good machine but it just would not hit. It wasnt crowded and we didnt see anyone hitting. The woman next to DH was cussing and swearing because her machine wasnt hitting. We have seen her there before, swearing because her machine wouldnt hit. Also,They called 31 names for the drawing but not DH. The drawing was for free play, not cash.

DH got McDonalds on the way home but I just ate a few fries. I came home and ate soup. It wwas very good the second day. I will eat more today.

Sleep was ok once i fell asleep. DH didnt feel good. He said he had chest pains so i was worried. It might have been indigestion because eventually he was snoring. Now he says hes fine.

How old was DH 2 when he died? I dont know if i still have CHF because the cardiologist said rhe new heart valve would improve the CHF. I dont get swelling of the feet and ankles. I have a puffy belly but i dont know if its fluid or just fat. I cut my Lasix in half because he had me on 20, but I was still peeing my pants and getting leg cramps.. So i just stopped taking it. I still get the rx filled. Some day I might start taking it, again. I take magnesium on my own. I started taking it for sleep, and it does help with leg cramps.

Come to think of it I didnt have swelling before they put me on Lasix. Occasionally my right foot will swell, but not my left. I thought it was from too much sitting and I cross my left leg over my right. I keep them elevated as much as I can. When I was in the hospital they gave me IV Lasix. My calves got so skinny they looked like toothpicks. I never saw them look like that. I started doing exercises to increase the muscle. My legs have always been thin compared to my upper body. I carry my weight in my upper body. DH says Im like a Weeble.😃Or an Ooopaloopa. So even though I dont take the Lasix I dont get any symptoms of CHF. What was your DHs,cause of death?

We have run out of several things. I guess Im going to have to go to the store.

Your DH could have stayed on the lower dose of Lasix or taken more magnesium if he wanted. I dont take my full dose of Statin. I take less than half because Im afraid to take the full dose. Right before I get Labs done I up the dose so my cholesterol is good. My PCP wanted to switch my statin to a newer one and I told him I wont take it. I have no side effects from the one I take. I always figure that I am the boss of my medical care, but I pay the doctor to advise me.

pattygirl63 01-08-2025 01:15 PM

Carol Sue I am sorry I said magnesium, but it was potassium that that the new doctor took away and never put it back. I think it is very necessary to be sure to take it. The original doctor he had checked it all the time. It is just as dangerous to have too much as it is to not take enough. I remember going to the hospital over night one time because it had gone to high. I always take potassium when taking Lasix especially now that I am taking the same amount he was taking because I know it can pull the potassium down. I guess I'm doing okay with that amount of Lasix as my potassium is always right in the middle of the range they want it according to labs. I do take magnesium but I don't think that has anything to do with that. They put me on it when I was in the hospital.

Carol Sue I have had to wear Walmart brand of depends since I went through chemotherapy. I have just kept wearing them which helps with the leakage or when I can't make it to the potty fast enough during the night. It doesn't happen all the time, but it is better than leaking on the bed. I'm also trying to learn to not drink much after 8 o'clock at night like many have to do with their children.

DH#2 was 65 when he died. Heart problems ran in his family. He didn't have CHF until he was in his late 50s or early 60s. He was never overweight and I don't think there was anything he wouldn't at least try to eat. He loved to eat. He told people that he loved to eat and I loved to cook and he would eat all the time if he could keep me in the kitchen cooking. He never could understand why I was overweight because he told people that I ate a lot less than he did. His grandfather had a heart attack and stopped smoking and lived to be 82 or 83. His grandmother had angina and lived to be in her 70s. His mother worked in medical insurance in hospital and doctor's offices and learned to eat healthy, but had CHF just a few years before she died in her 70s. I don't know how old his Dad was when he died or if he was ill or not.

Weight was up to 162.8 and FBG 123 so chicken and dumplings is something we will continue to eat only once a year. DH FBG was 99 but he takes Farxiga and G. If I wasn't going to the dentist in a few minutes, I would take one of his G, but it probably will be back down tomorrow. DH is going to Walmart while I get my teeth cleaned then we will get KFC because he is out of cole slaw. I just drank a protein shake for breakfast and a c of coffee. I will have to hit the water when I get home.

Won't be long till we have to leave to go to the dentist. I'll be so glad to get my teeth cleaned and get back home and hunker down for the wintry mix that is supposed to hit tomorrow.

Have a good day Everyone.

Wannabehealthy 01-08-2025 04:34 PM

Trish, when my first Cardiologist put me on Lasix he also put me on Potassium. This cardiologist did not.I will ask about that. When i has my bowel surgery and had to fast in the hospital they had to put me on IV potassium because it went too low. I dont know why it went low. This cardiologist works more with replacing heart valves rather than general cardiology. I have to make an appointment with him soon.

We will probably go to Walmart tomorrow. I want to be sure to take a list to make sure I dont forget anything. DH is still working on the sink and needs some tape to wrap the leaky pipe.

My dog isnt doing well and I dont know why. Maybe a trip to the vet is in order. He is 12 years old which is a senior dog. He has had very little medical problems in his life. He has been drinking lots of water. Now he cant jump up onto the couch which he normally does all the time.

pattygirl63 01-09-2025 01:57 AM

Carol Sue I'm sorry your Rusty isn't feeling well. I know it is difficult when they get old and have health problems and we lose them

Got my teeth cleaned and am thankful all is okay. I'm good now until July when I get them cleaned again. I've 2 old fillings that are turning black and DH said I should get them refilled so will do that in July.

Had a good day but I'm tired and ready to go to bed tonight. It should be freezing rain by the time I get up in the morning.

Goodnight.

Wannabehealthy 01-09-2025 08:58 AM

Rusty slept thru the night but has difficulty moving around. We are trying to get him to eat.

My sleep was good. My Fitbit was on charge and I intended to come out here and get it before i fell asleep but I fell asleep and forgot. I had my old Fitbit on. It measured sleep as 7+ hours but no details I ke the new one gives.

Scale has been stuck at 180.8 for 3 days. I don't know if its stuck or thats my weight. Blood sugar was a little elevated.

Im cooking some chicken for Rusty. He will usually eat chicken. We gave him half a baby aspirin which weve done before. He will sleep and then might feel better. It worked last rime then he was ok for about 6 months. DH put him on the couch, but if I leave his sight he jumps down and comes looking for me. He loves Mommy.

pattygirl63 01-09-2025 12:55 PM

Carol Sue Glad you got good sleep. I'm doing that too, but I'm sure it is the weather that is causing me to sleep good because it is so cozy under the covers. I sure hope Rusty starts feeling better soon.

Weight is the same for 2 days now 162.8 lbs. Don't know if I can keep that or not since I am eating different during the cold days. We will have chili today for dinner and have it with frankfurters tomorrow. Today my fiber and sodium will be high because of the beans in the chili. FBG back down to 117 and the bp was good too. I guess I could get my fiber up if I ate more beans which is not low carb.

I had English Lite MG with sausage, egg and cheese for breakfast with my protein shake and coffee. Tem is 37 degrees and not supposed to go much higher. Wintry mix hasn't started and I think we are just going to have rain with a little bit of snow during the night but don't think it will last very long so no snow coverage per se for us. Of course with the temps down in the 20s at night, we will wake up to icy streets and side weeks. I think about how we loved waking up to snow when I was young and didn't bother us getting out in it. If we couldn't drive, we could walk. Now at this age we just want to be able to stay home and just look at it so we can stay safe and not fall.

Now I just thank God for taking care of me and all my loved ones... friends and family across the USA because so many have lost their homes as well as family members during the hurricanes in the east and now the fires in CA. So far the ones I know are safe, but have a niece who was the 1st wife of the nephew whose wife died and she told me she is safe so far, but watching the fires as she live in LA. She me to keep praying for her. So I feel pretty blessed right now.

Hope everybody is safe.

Wannabehealthy 01-09-2025 01:42 PM

My step childrens mother lived in LA but she passed away. Her sister and brother still live there. And her youngest son. He is maybe 30. He wantsnothing to do with my step children because they didnt come to her funeral but he was a baby and is listening to what others are saying. He never really knew her like they did.

Rusty is hanging in there, sleeping but when i go to the bathroom he follows me. Not walking very well. Hes eating and drinking and going outside. When they stop eating thats bad.
I think our snow is done for a while but the weather in Texas is headed our way soon. Thats what it shows on the news.

Wannabehealthy 01-10-2025 09:23 AM

Rusty is walking much better, about back to normal, but still cant jump up onto the couch. He's a little dog.

I slept good but got up twice for the bathroom and to check on Rusty. He sleeps on the bedroom floor. I didnt weigh yet.

It went down to 6 degrees last night. Its supposed to warm up into the 20s for a couple days then back down to the single digits Wednesday night. I cant wait til summer. Im getting too non old for this.

I might have to stop eating eggs. They are almost $5 dozen at Walmart and are going to increase again. This is because of the bird flu. We know a guy who has chickens and sells the eggs. He has raised his to $3 dozen. I would like to get eggs from him but DH doesnt want me to because they are not checked the way store eggs are. Our dog groomer also sells eggs that he just asks for a donation but I think he has regular people who buy them. He has them in a refrigerator in the grooming shop. Once I bought free range eggs at the store and they were good, but expensive. What will i do if i have to stop eating eggs??

pattygirl63 01-10-2025 01:29 PM

Carol Sue I am glad that Rusty is feeling better. I pray he continues to get better. My DD has a little furbaby too. I don't remember what he is but he is cute and he is so important to her. She laughs because she says he knows she is talking to me and when we get ready to hang up he will whine and bark because he doesn't want me to hang up. The do have their personalities.

I'm not doing well with dieting. I buy the eggs, but cutting back on how much I eat of them. I bought the English muffins. I can eat one egg and either a slice of bacon or 1 sausage piece with cheese. Drinking my 30 g protein drink helps me keep my protein up, so I don't have to eat more eggs. I didn't go with DH to Walmart so I don't know how much they are there, but I was buying Cage Free Jumbo eggs at local store because they are very good quality eggs, but had to get Extra Large this time because they were almost $6. I had cereal this morning with my protein shake instead of milk no eggs. I will still eat eggs but just not as much as I used to. If I lived close to my beautician, she would give me eggs, but she lives too far from me even for free eggs. If she has some extras when I go get my perm next week, I will pay her for a dozen unless she insists on giving them to me free like she did the last time I went.

Right now I'm eating such a variety of foods that I'm not going to consider myself on a diet. I just want to eat what I want when I'm hungry. Until prices come back down or whatever, it is easier to eat a variety.

Weight up a lb, but other numbers are good. We didn't get any snow and the temps were high enough in 30s that rain didn't freeze. Still cold today 38 degrees right now. Sure makes it easy to stay in bed later these days. I didn't get up until after 9 am which is very unusual for me. I need to start going to bed at midnight so I can get up at 8ish each morning.

We will have chili dogs today and I will attempt to get back on a 2MAD and hope I can be successful at it. Trying to eat high protein and high fiber at the same time isn't all that easy and I don't think it can even be worked into a low carb woe.

Hope everyone has a good day and stay warm and safe.

Wannabehealthy 01-11-2025 11:52 AM

I dont know whats going on with Rusty. One minute he seems better, the next he seems worse. He still going out to pee, drinking water, but not eating. Sleeping most of the day,but if I get up to go somewhere he follows me.

Thats funny about the dog who knows shes talking to you. DH often puts his brother on speaker phone and Rusty can hear him. He barks and barks. He doesnt like DHs brother if he comes here, but I think brother is afraid of dogs.

We didnt get much snow overnight. They salted our road so its clear.

I slept good but got up a couple times to check on Rusty. Went back to sleep easily. Scale finally went down .8 to 180.0.

I might make meatloaf for dinner. I'll see what DH wants!

Ddidnt lose my pound for the first week. I lost .6 . I'll. As long as I lose something each week. take it. I dont expect to be perfect but i need to try harder!

pattygirl63 01-11-2025 01:28 PM

Carol Sue prayers continue for your little fur baby. Could he be dealing with diabetes? I think some dogs do as they get older. Just a suggestion as I have no idea what it could be. Drinking a lot of water just suggests something. He may need a Vet and a prescription to feel better.

Congratulations on the .6 lbs. My weight stayed the same with eating differently. Still 163.8. FBG was 119 so that is high and what I mostly judge things by. I will not stop dieting or low carb woe.

Interesting thing that happened yesterday was that when I went on FB yesterday, I got notice that I was tagged on the Keto for Cancer doctor's group. She was talking to us about lactate and how it affects cancer cells. She invited us to ask about anything we wanted to ask her. I wrote her about my dilemma of 40 mg of Lasix while eating keto/low carb. She told me that I would have to watch my blood pressure closely because my medication would have to be decreased while doing keto/low carb. I bought her newest book titled Keto Oncology and am reading it. Unlike her 1st book she will give a list of foods to eat and not eat plus a sample of a days eating. It will be nice to have the guide.

I learned that they don't want you to lose weight when on chemo because you lose a lot on chemo. However, I am no longer on chemo but Immunotherapy. However, they don't want to see an aggressive loss can mean the cancer is either back or the tumor you are trying to starve is getting glucose and growing. So I think this means that my treatment is working since I'm stable and not gaining or losing aggressively. That is a blessing. So, I won't know until I read the book, but at this time I believe if I can lose slowly maybe a 1/2 to 1 lb a week then that would be a good thing. She did tell us on FB that the important thing is to eat less carbs and plenty of protein. She said whey protein or even pea protein is best and eat fat but not enormous amount when trying to lose weight. I get the feeling she isn't one who thinks you need to be drinking olive oil or eating coconut oil, etc. I'll know more when I read the book.

Weather is back to the 50s for the coming week. Never got snow and no ice just nice steady rain. Today we are having tilapia.

Have a nice Saturday everyone. I've got some reading to do.

I skimmed through the book to see how she says to eat. She recommends Modified Atkins Diet. There are several books using Atkins and the book which I have that Dr. Westman co-authored The New Atkins for the New You is on the list. I have that book as well as the cookbook so I will continue with that plan. Not sure I will go back to eating only 20 g of carbs or not but I will continue to eat less. I do like learning to use a variety of good foods that fit into a low carb woe.

Wannabehealthy 01-11-2025 08:50 PM

Trish, I have the book New ATKINS FOR A NEW YOU. Its been years since I read it. I donated a lot of my diet books but I didnt think I donated any of my Low Carb books. I like to have them to refer to. I went way over today on calories and carbs,so I dont expect a good number on the scale tomorrow.

I think the problem with losing weight with cancer is if you lose but are not trying to. I think if they are concerned about your weight you can tell them you are trting to lose and could teol them how much you weighed several years ago. You have been dieting to lose weight for a while now. I dont think your weight loss was from the cancer. As long as you are eating healthy youre doing good! Thats just my opinion but I cant imagine the doctor disagreeing with that!

I love talapia. DH will not eat it. I wish I could buy it but not if I have to cook something eose for him.

Carol Sie I went on FB and searched for Moderate Atkins Diet and found a really good group. They are for people who do keto, low carb or Atkins whatever. They do not tolerate criticism of what people eat. Someone had eaten a small potato and someone told them it was okay if they included it in the carb count. I've learned a lot and will use some of their ideas of eating. Some do net carbs and some do total count of carbs. A lot of them also do IF... fast more than others. I think I will stick with the 16:8 ratio at least for now. (t seems that some eat 20 g, some 30 g and some even 40 g of carbs. Most don't worry about fiber except for what they get in their veggies. They say you don't have to count calories as long as you count carbs. Of course, you can do it however you want to do. It seems the key is to learn how to make your plan fit your lifestyle. One person I saw seemed to have days she is stricter than others.

I also looked up Premier Protein shakes for cancer immunotherapy patients. I watched a review on it and learned that it really isn't supposed to be for meal replacement but for snack and was even suggested using it in coffee. I think when I finish my sugar free coffee creamer that I will switch to eat just to get an extra amount of protein shake as a creamer and eat my protein. Tomorrow I'm cooking chicken leg quarters and veggies and work at learning to keep my carbs under 40 g total, not net.

Wannabehealthy 01-12-2025 08:49 AM

Trish,I have never counted net carbs. My fiber is never very high. Did you join that group?

Sleep was pretty good last night. It is very cold here. I think today is going to be the coldest day so far. We got a little more snow overnight.

DH just told me we have to go to Walmart for a few things. I havent ben out for 2 days. I cant stand the thought of it! Brrrrrrr

I dont want to get on the scale today because I ate so much yesterday and I feel very fat. I get very depressed when I see the number continue to go up,especially since Ive been at 180 most of the week.

We were supposed to go to the casino today because of a giveaway they are having for an auto safety kit. He looked closer and saw that it is jumper cables and a flashlight which he does not ned or want. Im so glad because I really didnt want to go today.

pattygirl63 01-12-2025 02:01 PM

Carol Sue Yes, I did join the group. I got some ideas for things to cook and eat or how to cook things I already eat but cook them a little different. I think it will be really helpful to me.

I looked to see what I weighed the last time I checked in on MFP and was pleased to see that I am 1.6 lbs down from Jan 1st. That actually makes me feel better as I get back on my low carb woe. I had 2 sl bacon, 2 eggs a little bit of cheese on a low carb tortilla for breakfast. I am using 1 the Premier Protein shake in my coffee so that I will get 30 grams of protein today. If I have to I will drink what is left of it when I finish drinking coffee for the day. I usually don't drink coffee after dinner. So will drink the rest with my supper.

I need to break some bad habits so I will eat cooked veggies with dinner and once I'm finished with the little containers of flavored Greek yogurt, I will buy plain Greek yogurt and use allulose sweetener in it for 2 reasons. 1 it lowers diabetes and it fights cancer so the tumors can't grow. I will also learn how to cook with allulose so DH and I can have our cookies we like without the sugar alcohols. For any diabetic lurkers, I need to let you know that you can eat too much allulose and if you do expect to have diarrhea. The only way I know how to explain how allulose keeps glucose under control is that it acts like a bully fighting for the attention keeping it low. I have to research to learn how it works against tumors as I just read that yesterday.

I've made tuna salad for supper tonight. My calories and carbs as close as I can figure is just under 1350 and carbs total carbs 52 g. which will be eaten between 12 noon and 8 pm. So a good plan for day one back on track. This is all encouraging to me because I'm finally on a plan that will work with the Immunotherapy treatment I'm on.

Carol Sue Glad you don't have to go to casino today. How is Rusty doing today.

Have a blessed Sunday everybody.

Wannabehealthy 01-12-2025 04:10 PM

Today at Walmart I saw the hostess from Rodneys and she said she missed us. I blamed it on DH. I love their menu and would go more often, especially if we went around 2pm so I could order from the lunch menu. They have smaller meals at lunch which i like. We used to be able to order from the lunch menu until 4pm but now they changed it to 3pm. If I specify that I want to go there he would go. I am more adventurous but DH orders one thing from a menu and never tries anything different.

Rusty is hanging in there, but still not eating. Tomorrow I will try to get a vet appointment. If I cant we could go to the emergency vet but they moved and I dont know where. When we took Pupper there step daughter went with us but she will be working. We tried to get him to eat some deli turkey which he loves and some canned dog food but he didnt want the dog food and threw up the deli turkey. Poor little doggy.

I only drink coffee in the morning, before 11 am. Then I switch to water or other cold drinks.

The Steelers lost yesterday so they are out of the playoffs.

pattygirl63 01-12-2025 11:42 PM

I had a very good on plan eating today and ate it within 6 hrs instead of 8. The Keto for Cancer group on FB is becoming active and I've been reading a lot on there today. One guy said he uses allulose sweetener because it was not only good for glucose control, but he also said he didn't know if it was true or not but that he had read online that it was also an anti-cancer fighter. I wasn't able to find to much that I want to know online yet. But I am happy with the way things went today.

I hope you get help for Rusty and he will be okay.

Wannabehealthy 01-13-2025 12:38 PM

i read about allulose but did not see it was a cancer fighter.

At the rate I'm going I will be back to 200 by Easter. I made myself get on the scale and Im up 1 lb to 181. It was after I ate breakfast but after the bathroom. I have to take action. I think I sound like a broken record. I have to do this now,for my weight AND my blood glucose!

I thought I lost the new test strips I bought. I was prepared to go to Walmart for more. Then i realized I had my 2 meters mixed up. I still use an old one but trade off with a newer one. I now have strips for both and the reading are just off a few points. So Im all set.

pattygirl63 01-13-2025 01:11 PM

Weight down .8 lb today FBG slowing coming back down and was 110 this morning. BP 104/59. Today calories will be 1214, total carbs 42 g net 26 g and protein 102 g. So I will have another good day.

I don't know what DH is eating because we need to get some of the foods eaten that I can't or won't eat doing low carb. We couldn't agree on anything so I am taking a beef patty that is in the freezer that needs to be eaten so I will make myself a lettuce wrap cheeseburger for dinner and eat the rest of the tuna salad for supper that I made yesterday. Tomorrow will be tricky because I go for a perm and he wants to go to Sam's on the way home and he is ready for Chinese. I may try to eat only 2 meals tomorrow and have 2 protein shakes instead of one. I might be able to take the chicken out of the breading and eat a finger salad and leave off the rice.

Carol Sue I did read on MedMD that allulose is a healthy sweetener for most people, but I didn't find it as a anti-cancer food. I think the people who have problems with it either eat too much of it or have problems with dairy. How I found a whole online page on immunotherapy which I want to go back and listen to more of the videos on it. I am happy to find a sweetener that helps lower glucose that fits into my woe. Hopefully I will be able to go back to only 20 mg of Lasix eating this way too.

You will figure out your way of eating. I know you are like me in the fact that we have to work around DH woe. My DH doesn't seem to understand that noodles are carbs we can only eat very little of, but then he eats to lower FBG not lose weight. I've decided to do like I did when I was thin and ate this way, I will pick and choose when I will eat those foods with him and I will adjust my IF time to fit it in. I seem to see that this is how low carbers are making it work and fit into their lifestyle. I think that is how we all have to do it.

Have a good day.

pattygirl63 01-13-2025 02:59 PM

Carol Sue here is the article they must be referring to about allulose. Very interesting as it sounds like it has promising benefits on so many things.

Yes, I’m Excited about Allulose - David Perlmutter M.D.

Wannabehealthy 01-13-2025 03:57 PM

Yes, all Ive read sounds like its good for so many things. My problem is, I hardly ever use artificial sweetener, or any sweetener at all. And where do you buy it, other than online? I drink my coffee black. Never used sweetener. I use it in tea but rarely drink tea, or in oatmeal, which I rarely eat. I would like that it acts like Glp1. That woyld be my main interest.

Wannabehealthy 01-13-2025 05:36 PM

well, step daughter stopped over to see Rusty. She called the vet and they told us to bring him right up. Unfortunately, the vet said he is almost comatoese and recommended euthenasia, So Rusry is on his way over the Rainbow bridge and will be waiting for us with our other 5 dogs! I will be crying for awhile.😢

pattygirl63 01-13-2025 07:03 PM

Carol Sue I am so sorry about Rusty. I know that will take some getting used to not having him around. You will be in my prayers.

I've seen the allulose in the store, but I ordered mine from Amazon because I can get organic with only allulose until I learn I don't need only allulose.

Wannabehealthy 01-14-2025 09:40 AM

We made it thru the night. I had 2 dreams about Rusty. I was able to get up for the bathroom without a light. I didnt have to worry that Rusty was lying on the bedroom floor.

The scale is down 1.6 to 179.4. Thats because we didnt have dinner last night. We did eat small when we came home.

We have no plans for the rest of the week but I imagine DH will want to go to the casino.

Last night I checked out the Animal Shelter websites online but only saw one dog I would consider. They have mostly big dogs and the little dogs get adopted right away. DH said"No more dogs" but he said that twice before and eventually he changed his mind. I will wash Rustys bed, pillow, and blanket and put them away. I guess I could tell DH if I dont get another dog I wont go to the casino.

pattygirl63 01-14-2025 11:43 AM

Carol Sue I thought of you a lot last night and prayed for you because I know how hard it is to give up our pets. I guess that is why I don't really push for us to have one. DS and DBIL will be so hurt if they have to give up one of their dogs. DN loves to rescue them and had 5 at one time. She gave 2 of them to her parents so DS and DBIL have one a each. It is crazy when we go over there, but I noticed they keep one in a cage when we were there, but they were more used to us this last time and one of DN dogs loves DH when we visit. I would want a smaller one that might sit in my lap. Their little Teddy that we used to keep would sit in my lap. I hope your DH will come around for you. They say they are good for us.

Weight this morning back down to 161.8 this morning. Purely water cause I had to not take the 2nd Lasix yesterday. With the diet and one Lasix was more than I needed. FBG was back down to 102 this morning "Thank God" because that was getting out of control. BP was 122/59. It would be nice if I could keep that too.

I've decided I don't really like tuna anymore. As my sweet Daddy would say, "I've had some of that" which meant he had enough of it and don't want anymore. We are going to Sam's after I get my hair done and I've decided to go in this time. I haven't gone to Sam's myself since I got sick 2 years ago. I saw a video of an oncologist that specializes in ovarian cancer treatment using immunotherapy and he says they haven't really figured how to eat to help. He says the key seems to be staying active is more important. I want to see if I can get some canned chicken to make chicken salads that I can eat for supper instead of the tuna.

Busy day.
