We don't have a Cracker Barrel close to us. There is one at the next turnpike exit, about 12 miles from here. It's really out of our way. I don't think DH would like Cracker Barrel, but I would love to go there if they have trout. I never ate a fish I didn't like. I really don't know what people mean when they say they don't like fishy fish. Fish is fish, so it's fishy. LOL The best I ever had was Grouper. They had it at the casino a couple times. It was a big fish mounted on a rack. It had an eyeball staring at you. LOL You took the tongs and just broke off what you wanted. I could have eaten the whole thing. I don't know why they only had it a couple times. Either they got a deal on it, or maybe it wasn't a popular item. DH normally fishes just for sport, and is a catch and release fisherman. One time we cooked the fish he caught. He cleaned it and filleted it. It was Perch. I liked it, but he wasn't that crazy about it. We don't have much good fish around here. They stock the rivers during Trout season but other times of year you just get river fish.

Trish: not sure why you need to stop all of them. But many meds have an effect on the gut, and being well cleaned out is essential for a good colonoscopy. They are the experts, so do as they say. If you have a concern about being off a specific med for that long, give them a call and ask about alternatives. (for instance, most people can't be off their BP meds for several days) .
hope that is helpful |
fatmad Thanks. They told me that I could take my bp med even the morning of the colonoscopy, but nothing else.
Carol Sue We can buy ocean perch at Sam's sometime. I don't know why we can get it some time, but not others. I buy cod at Sam's. We get nice this fillets there, but the ones I've bought other places are paper thin. I usually cook it in a little bit of lemon butter. It is really good. I haven't thought about using the pork rinds for batter on the fish I usually pan fry. I've been trying to stop pan frying and bake the fish instead. I have tried using almond flour, but it really does not stay on the fish very well. I used eat a lot fried chicken before DH and I married. When I married him and moved east. In FL, there was a place that made broasted chicken and DH and I went there for special occasions. Then when we moved to SC, we only had KFC. DH likes KFC, but it isn't my favorite. So I got out of the habit of having it. When we moved back to TX, I don't buy it very much, but still liked it. I bought some on the way home and put our salad and veggies with it. I told DH that I never thought I would ever feel this way but I am so tired of chicken fried, baked, roasted or any other way. In fact, I am getting to the place right now that I really have no desire for any kind of meat. I got that way a few years back and almost became a vegetarian. Oh well, I'm sure this will pass, but I need to take advantage of the fact that I just don't have any tastes for much of any food right now. I'm just bored thinking about it. Maybe that can be used to help me get on a diet plan. |
Trish, are you still taking Metformin? That is one med that I know has to be stopped a couple days before and a couple days after any test that involves contrast dye. I don't know if they use that for a colonoscopy. It has something to do with the kidney function. One time when I was in the hospital, they stopped my Metformin because I was having a cardiac catheterization. I was not to go back to it until the doctor said. The nurse came in with my meds and I told her I was not to take the Met, but she insisted. We went back and forth, and then I finally took it, but in retrospect, I realize I should have just refused and told her to notify my doctor. She was wrong, and if that would ever happen again I would flatly refuse. I reported her to the head nurse who said she would talk to her, and my kidney function test came out fine in spite of it. So all's well that ends well, I guess.
I have always preferred chicken and fish to beef or pork. I very rarely ate beef or pork most of my life. I like to keep cooked chicken on hand for a snack. I like rotisserie chicken. Most of the time I put my chicken thighs and drumsticks in some water and simmer. The bad thing about that is it a bit greasy because the skin doesn't crisp up the way it does when it's roasted, and the fat under the skin tends to make the chicken greasy. I like that it's moist, but I think the greasiness contributes to my potty issues. I'm starting to nail that down to greasy foods. I got away from eating fried chicken when I started watching my weight because the breading was carbs. I usually can control my weight better eating meat. I know that cod is good baked, but I am trying to find a way to cook it without using the oven now that summer is coming. We have central air, but if I put the oven on, it makes the air condition work harder. With chicken, I can put it on the grill on low and put the lid on, but I'm not sure if I could do fish that way. I really prefer to use my grill pan on the stove. I love that pan! I do fish on it, and steaks. They turn out great. It puts grill marks on it, and the food isn't sitting in grease like it is with a regular fry pan. Normally, we only use our George Foreman Grill for hamburgers, because we like the way the fat drains off, but recently, DH has cooked his steak in it, too. He likes his steak well done. The only chicken DH will eat is skinless boneless breast meat. If we are somewhere where they have fried chicken, he will take a breast, but he pulls off one big piece of meat and eats that and leaves the rest. He says he will not pick the meat off the bone. I told him that's the best part, and I usually pick the meat off his. I don't like the waste. We haven't had KFC in years. DH says it's so much coating, and once you pull that off there's not much meat. His mother used to make good fried chicken. She just dusted the pieces with flour and fried it like that. It made just a nice light crust on it. I do that occasionally with boneless, skinless chicken tenders. It doesn't turn out as good as hers. She probably added some seasoning to the flour and never shared her secret with me. LOL This is terrible. I could talk about food for hours! LOL I really need to get a life. When I am out and about, busy with other things, I never think of eating. |
I just opened and started my new 90 day supply of Diabetes meds, Metformin and Glimiperide. My plan is to work very hard these 90 days to get my blood sugar way down so I can go for an A1c test and see good results. Normally I stay on plan for a few days and then fall by the wayside, but I want to take one day at a time and really stick to it this time. I haven't had my A1C checked for over a year because I was getting bad readings. My goal is to keep carbs under 50 and not have any postprandial readings over 200.
I stuck to plan very well yesterday, with scrambled eggs, chicken and a burger patty without the bun. Blood sugar is improved already. I know it takes longer to improve fasting. I can eat like this as long as their is enough protein food available, but it's always something that has to be cooked, and is not handy for grabbing something. Maybe I will cook some hard boiled eggs and chicken legs to keep in the fridge. When I do that, DH has a tendency to feed them to the dog. LOL Rusty loves chicken! I just wanted to state my commitment for accountability. Everyone have a good day! |
Carol Sue We seem to be in the same frame of mind today. I'm with you girl. We can make this commitment and do it. However, I do agree that we have to take it "One day at a Time".
My weight is way up today and that is unacceptable. I have until July 26th before I have to see my new doc again. I intend to have the weight down and my A1c even better than the last time. I decided to read on the FB CAD group yesterday. Many of them are doing IF/CAD. Someone asked the group how to do IF with CAD and was told to do an 8 hr window. I decided that is what I'm going to do. I realized that I do like eating low carb most of the time, but need to be able to have my fruit and milk and once in a while even have a burger or whatever. So CAD is the plan for me. I can have 2 low carb meals a day and one carby meal a day and do it within 8 or 9 hrs (10 actually works best for my bs when I eat my meals 5 hrs apart). I did read where 9 or 10 hr windows work better for women while the 8 hr window does best for men. So I might consider it. However, I want to back my hours up so I'm through eating earlier in the day more like 6 or 7 so depending on what is going on, I my just do the 8 and eat every 4. I think my body will eventually adjust. I had eggs, bacon and kale/spinach combo with peppers for breakfast. Didn't intend to scramble them, but these are the eggs raised by the people at the church we visited a few weeks ago and the egg yolks break every time. I don't know how they feed them that they turn out that way. Any way it became a scramble omelet. I want to get away from eating snacks. I never at snacks growing up and I want to get rid of the habit. I read an article on Yahoo the other day and it said "What is the best diet to go on to lose weight?" The answer basically was "the one you can stay on". That is what my S.C. doctor told me. So I'm going to take the IF/CAD plan and adjust it to my lifestyle. I will start out making it a habit believing that it will become my lifestyle in time. As a diet group I was in once said, "Fake it till you make it". I will change my ticker to match this mornings scale. I hope everyone is doing well. Edited to say: Although I saw the Heller's say on tv that exercise isn't necessary on CAD, the CAD book recommends 15 minutes 3 days a week. Since I'm starting over, I will be doing a minimum of 15 minutes 6 days a week as I slowly increase to a minimum of 30 minutes a day. I would love to eventually get to 45 minutes a day, but not going to push it. I think one of my problems is that I try to do to much in the beginning and burnout and stop. I want all of this to become a daily habit. I did get the 15 minutes on the bike done today. Like Carol Sue, I am making this my official commitment. |
Trish, I don't like when I see plans that say exercise is not needed. Although it really doesn't contribute to weight loss, our bodies were meant to move, and exercise does so many other things for health. I think everyone should exercise, no matter their weight or diet.
Having said that, I admit, I am a poor example. I have such a hard time getting back to it. When I do, I tell myself that I will do at least 5 minutes on the treadmill every day...and most of the time, once I do the 5 minutes, I get into the zone and keep going longer. That's strange about the egg yolks breaking. I didn't think about it until you mentioned it, but I haven't had a yolk break in years. I googled and it seemed that all I found were forums where people were all asking the same question. Most of them were people who were eating eggs from their own chickens. There were several different answers, from what they are being fed, the age of the hen, the temperature, how the eggs were stored after they were collected, whether the hens were drinking enough water. It didn't sound like anyone really knew the answer. How many meals are you eating per day? You could have the shorter window if you only ate twice a day, one low carb and one RM. Or you could have the third meal, but have it more of a small snack than a full meal. I am no longer hungry in the morning, so my first meal isn't usually until 11 AM, even though many times it is eggs, so I call it breakfast. Then I eat dinner around 4, and sometimes something later in the evening, but I try not to. Today we went to a restaurant that has a a nice tossed salad with a big scoop of tuna salad on top. I ordered that and ate the salad and put the tuna salad in a container with the intention of making a tuna salad sandwich when I got home. Once home, I wasn't hungry anymore, so it's in the fridge for tomorrow. Their tuna salad is much better than mine. I made some brownies and a cheese cake for my company tomorrow. They are coming around noon, so I am popping a frozen pizza in the oven and they get cheese cake for dessert. The brownies are for my grandson who doesn't like cheesecake. He says Grandma makes the best brownies.....ha ha Thank Betty Crocker for them! It's Mother's Day. I am not supposed to be doing the cooking!!!! What's wrong with this picture? My step-daughter tells me that every year, but you know what? No one else offers!! LOL |
Carol SueI'm eating 3 meals or more like 2 meals and a snack since the 3 meal is very little. I eat breakfast around 10 or 11 am depending on what is going on that day. Then I have my RM at 3 or 3:30 pm and have a salad around 6 or 7. Hopefully I will get at least 15 or 16 hr fast. When things get settled after the colonoscopy, I am thinking of doing the 2 meals and a 19 hr fast. My stomach will be so empty after the day of the cleansing so hopefully it will feel so good to be empty that I can build on that.
I agree that everyone should exercise as much as possible. I really believe that the more I exercise the better I feel. I know that my joints and back doesn't hurt as bad and after a time, I get to where I can move around better and don't have to use my cane unless I'm walking long distances. Maybe if I was more committed and continuously, perhaps I wouldn't need it at all. My CAD D1 has been great. I did log on MFP and my calories are less than 1400 for the day. I would like to do it with JUDDD if I can. May start that after the colonoscopy. I'm thinking I could do 2 meals on DD and 3 meals on UD. We aren't doing anything this weekend. I may not eat tomorrow until DH gets up and we eat at 3 because tomorrow is breakfast together for our main meal. I might be able to get by with just 2 meals. DS and I had such a busy week with DD this past week and her kids aren't coming tomorrow. In fact she and her DH went to Austin to see their DD today. So we all decided to stay home tomorrow and rest. Like you said it is our day so why not make it a do nothing day. Monday we have to take DD to CHF clinic at 2 and I have to go get his medicine I had him call in before I pick him up. I'll take him to the appointment and DS will take him home Pizza, cheesecake and brownies sound fairly easy since you are cooking your meal. Enjoy your day. fatmad, p.a. and lurkers Y'all have a great Mother's day. |
The pizza will be lunch for them since they are coming at noon. I can't eat it, but I will have some cheesecake. LOL I have a steak for DH and salmon for me for dinner later on. I don't like to go out to eat on Mother's Day. It's usually very crowded everywhere, and I hate that. We actually prefer to eat out during the week for just that reason. I don't even know if my step-daughter is coming. It usually depends on whether her brother is coming, and he is, so maybe she will come. I am their step mother. I don't expect anything from them, but it's nice that they come, and I am the only Grandma that my grandson knows, since DH's ex wife is deceased.
My plan is to get back to exercising starting tomorrow. My step-daughter took the bicycle that was sitting in the middle of my exercise room, so now I have no excuse. There's plenty of room and I have nothing by time. |
had a very off day yesterday, too long before eating, then being very tired and as we know with me, I went for the junk food, bag of chips, and ate lasagna for supper. Yikes. Lets see IF I can get back on track.
best wishes everyone, and happy mother's day |
Day 1 back on CAD worked great. The temporary weight gain is down 3.8 lbs today and the best part of all is that my FBS was 118. Doc said I don't have to check it everyday, but I want to know what I'm doing so I'll do it for a while. I am very pleased with the results. Staying OP can only make things better. Today will be a DD as I will only eat within a 5 hr window. I will have fasted 20 hrs by the time I eat today.
fatmad One thing I've learned from doing CAD is that one off meal will not ruin everything if you get right back OP the next meal. I'm sure you are working on that today, so you will be fine. You can do this girl. Carol Sue It is good that you are making the meal that works for all of y'all. I used to do that when I was determined to stay OP. We have our plans and we can't let anyone or anything derail us. That is why I have chosen CAD for me. My lifestyle has changed since I moved here and CAD fits into it very well. I was telling my DS this morning that I have gone back on CAD and explained to her the flexibility of it. She and I did a strict low carb in Overeater's Anonymous years ago. In fact, she is the one who found the group and got me into it back then. I shared with her this morning that I can have a starchy carb meal (called Reward Meal) once a day within 60min as long as I have the other meals low carb/no starchy carbs. I also explained that I can even have a the RM for breakfast when we go to Denny's if I choose to as long as I eat low carb the rest of the day. She went to see her daughter yesterday for Mother's Day. It is hard for her to go up the stairs, but they helped her. However, her daughter didn't want to eat out at a restaurant because she wanted to cook. She has been working to not only lose weight, but to get her diabetes under control. Her readings have been in the 90's and sometimes even down in the 60's. She is excited because she sees her doctor this week and she is probably going to be coming of her diabetic medicine. I am so proud of her. My doctor told me if I keep doing as good as I am that he will probably take me off the Trulicity. I am hoping that I can stay OP and come off of it sometime this year. If I can show great improvement, lose weight and get off the Trulicity, then just maybe my DS will get inspired to get hers off. She is still pre-diabetic not full blown diabetic. Her daughter is moving here this summer and hopefully we can inspire her Mother to do the same. |
Why didn't I think about this before. UD yesterday was 1315 calories and 725 calorie DD today. I ate exactly what I wanted for RM and I'm finding this soooo easy to do it with CAD/JUDDD.
|
I am trying to learn how to post from my Nook. I bought this 10 inch to use as a laptop but never used it. I wanted it more so I could sit outside and read articles instead of sitting at the desktop all the time. I need to download something in order to get into my email I will have to figure that out. Never easy when you are computer illiterate . LOL
I didnt do well today. I ended up eating pizza anyway. Too weak to resist and I had cheesecake which I had planned. When dinnertime came dh just wanted to eat more pizza but my body felt oversugared so I grilled a piece of salmon. My body was rebelling and wanted something healthy. Funny how once your body gets used to healthy food it craves it. I will probably see a jump on the scale and I had to take extra glimipiride but I will be back on plan tomorrow.. |
Carol Sue If you get right back OP, you will be okay. We all have to learn that, but we've been conditioned to feel so guilty about a slip that we just know we ruined the whole plan. Even WW allows extra points for special occasions to do away with that feeling and so does some of the other diet plans out there. We need to learn to adjust to the fact that a slip isn't a disaster unless we allow it to derail us.
My FBS is up a bit today, but thin my weight did my weight only came down .2 of a lb from yesterday and yesterday was my DD. I'll take the advise of the diabetic nutritionist and educator and just keep on doing what I'm doing. However, I wonder if eating a stirfry with beef and veggies with low sodium soy sauce had anything to do with it. :?::?: DH went to take something out to the trash that didn't get put in it and went out the front door instead of opening garage. He found a gift from my grandson and his family for my. It is the cutest coffee cup which says "They call me Nana because I'm too cool to be called grandma". It will become one of my keepsake cups from them. Heard from my 2 sons, but my daughter must not have a phone right now. She lets her cell phone go when she wants to buy something for her house. Strange girl. LOL Busy day. Got to go take Daddy to lab at the hospital and then to CHF clinic. He is feeling better, but his shoulder is hurting him. We see his primary next Wednesday. He may have to have an x-ray and go see an orthopedic. Bless his heart. He is sleeping better since we moved the recliner from my house to his and got rid of his old one. We take one day at a time. Life goes on, but rather be busy than just drifting along with no life like we were doing in S.C. Busy is better. Have a great day. This Monday... new week. We can all get OP and move on forgetting whatever we did or didn't do yesterday. |
Trish, when did your Dad's shoulder start hurting him? That was my first side effect when I got the tendonitis after I took the Ciprofloxen, which I think you said he was taking for his infection. It is a strong antibiotic and often used for a resistant infection, but it has bad side effects. I hope that's not what he has.
I don't think the meal you had was bad, and you will get fluctuations all the time. It's just the way our bodies work. It sounded like a healthy meal to me. I normally don't like to weigh every day, but for some reason I've been doing it. I go up and down the same 2-3 lbs, nothing to worry about. I seem to go off plan ever few days and that's just natural for me. Just keep on going. That coffee mug from your grandson sounds adorable! Your grandchildren seem to really love you. You must be a special grandma. My step-daughter was losing here phone service off and on for the past couple years. We would try to call and get a disconnect message, then find out they couldn't afford it again. The past year they seem to be doing a little better and have had good phone service for a while now. I think they gave up their cable to be able to afford the phone. I am so happy because I DID get back to my exercising today. I did 7 minutes on the treadmill, 10 minutes on the bike and 5 minutes on the elliptical. I also used these other 2 machines I have for a couple minutes each. I felt it was good for the first time back. I wanted to use my weight machine too but the last time I used it I did something to make the cord come off the pulley and I can't get it back on. That's a job for DH. I did not do high intensity exercise, but I felt good about doing it. I am also reading an ebook I got. It's not a food plan, but more for correcting impulsive eating. It's nothing I never heard before, but I think I need a refresher course. It does say to eliminate sugar and flour, but otherwise it recommends 4-6 hours between meals, no snacks, and proper portions. The writer has an expensive program you can join, but I won't do that. It's like doing WW. You can join and participate, or you can do it on your own. Reading the book is good enough for me. I just have to stop this grazing through out the day. It's terrible, and I know that's what's standing in my way. |
