A quick flyby. Did I tell you that I found a prescription of Metformin 500mg that I didn't know I had? You know I realized back when I was having all the bowel problems that I was taking 1000mg instead of 500mg. So I decided to start taking the Metformin 500mg since I was experiencing the opposite problem of being bound up. So far so good. Everything is going good. Also, I'm following more of a fiber diet than low carb and my FBS this morning was back down to 134. I've kind of learned that if I eat fiber for my last meal of the day that my FBS is lower the next morning.

Well, I had everything planned in my mind for us to have the movers here on the 29th so we could leave as soon as the movers leave and DH came up with a better plan. We meet with the moving company today. He wants to have them load up on the 27th of September, spend the night in a motel and then as soon as we are finished closing on the 2 houses, we will head out for TX. We will drive as far as we can that day, stop at a motel somewhere when we get tired and then go hopefully drive on in to my sisters on the 29th. That way we can either have the movers on load late Friday the 30th or early Saturday morning on the 1st. I would like to have them move us in on Saturday so we could spend Friday going to order the refrigerator, washer and dryer, etc so maybe they could deliver those on Saturday as well. Either way it works out will be good.

I will definitely be getting a lot of exercise between now and then doing all that packing since we will be getting boxes from the movers today.

Hope everyone is doing good. Although the FBS is coming down, I seem to be holding my own with the weight. I hope this exercise will change some of that. Catch y'all again as I have time.

Wannabehealthy 08-30-2016 10:28 AM

Trish, it sounds like you have a good plan, as long as the movers will agree to loading up the night before. This is all so exciting!

When we moved, we brought our appliances with us, but our stove was built-in so we had to move in here without a stove. We had already ordered one, but we moved on a Saturday and the stove wasn't getting delivered until Monday. There was a nice diner here then and we ate all our meals there over the weekend. The first day when I was putting my spice bottles away I dropped one on the brand new stove and chipped the top! So it was chipped starting out. LOL When we moved, the kids were in CA visiting their mother so it was easier for us to move without them underfoot.

Good job on your eating plan, plus all the exercise.

p.a. 08-31-2016 10:56 AM

Morning it's been slow here,,I think we are enjoying the last of summer. I know I am. I start watching my grandkids today...mon-we'd afternoons only. I'm looking forward to it. I'm hoping it keeps me out of the fridge!!! And moving more....

pattygirl63 08-31-2016 01:01 PM

p.a. I noticed that it has been awfully quite here. I do check everyday whether I say anything or not. Enjoy those grandchildren. I look forward to getting to know my great grandson when I get moved.

Well, I guess it is nerves, but I have been going wild with my eating and my weight is back up. I like the Mediterranean Diet and have been reading a lot about it. It seems to be exactly like the DASH Diet.

Any way, I'm eating to many bad carbs so today I am going to follow more like the SBD Phase 2 mainly because I need the fiber in the beans. I think the idea of eating more fruits, low-fat dairy and veggies are a good idea, but I don't think I need as many grains as they say. I get in trouble with those.

Well, the exercises begin. Movers brought the boxes yesterday and I am doing a lot of binding and twisting so I hope that helps with the weight and the BS readings. I actually broke a sweat this morning which I don't do a lot any more.

Well, break time is over so I will check back later.

Wannabehealthy 09-02-2016 09:06 AM

Trish, that will be so nice to be closer to some of your family. Where is your grandson living now?

I know about going wild with the eating. I don't know why that happens to us. Yesterday I saw a woman I knew when I was still working. When I left in 2010 she had lost a lot of weight with WW and exercise. Now she has gained it all back, and more it seems. I know there are some who can keep it off, but they say only 5% of the people who lose can maintain the loss long term. That is so depressing. I think I would rather stay fat than lose it all and gain it all back. I have maintained the 20 lbs loss and stayed under 200, but just barely. Can't seem to get any more to leave. Bye Bye fat!! Go away!!

pattygirl63 09-02-2016 10:13 AM

Carol Sue I know. I feel the same way. I seem to take 2 steps forward and 3 back never making any progress. I'm beginning to see things I just can't control when I eat them. I think I need to start watching that and just refuse to purchase them any more. Packing most of my cookware isn't much help either.

Not sure which grandson you mean. The one who lived with us lives in an apartment with some friends. I expect he will go back to FL in another year. My grandson and I will be living in the same town when I move.

I hope everyone is safe with this rain. They are expecting about an inch from it when it passes us. Never hear from Bonnie any more. I always think of her when they get so much rain in her area. Hope she is going to be okay.

Later

Wannabehealthy 09-04-2016 08:13 AM

Trish, I was asking about your grandson who used to live with you and was going to college. I thought you said he moved out a while back but didn't know if he was still local or was back with his family.

I heard that the hurricane was downgraded once it hit Georgia. That's good, but it can still do a lot of damage. I miss Bonnie, too.

I have read recently that your body will lose 10% of your weight, and then it becomes a real struggle. You have to keep that off for several months until it becomes your new setpoint and then you should be able to lose another 10% again. This has been my new setpoint for 8 years now, so my body didn't get the message that it can lose 10% again. LOL When I think back, I have really changed my diet from back before my surgery. I definitely ate the SAD back then, any and all carbs and sweets I wanted, in quantities that I wanted. I guess the change is what kept me maintaining, but a new change will have to be made to begin losing again. Last month when I was doing strict low carb I was starting to lose, but a few carbs have crept back in. We had tomatoes and cucumbers and that means sandwiches for me. I will not buy any more of that bread I was buying because even though it is lower carb and higher fiber, it is a trigger for me and I eat too much of it. So it has to be gone. Also, I haven't felt good lately, have had a bit of a summer cold, and that makes me want comfort food. I seem to have every excuse in the book! LOL

pattygirl63 09-05-2016 07:34 PM

Carol Sue The grandson who lived with us lives here in town with some friends and seems to be doing really good. He has 2 jobs, but is trying to get a job working at Home Depot too. He was here for a while Sunday to visit and help his Grandad with a couple of things. He has talked to the school and he can get financing to go back to school in the spring and he hopes that the Home Depot job will come through and he will be able to work there part time and go to school and quit the other 2 jobs. I think it has finally hit him that we really are leaving. We have only seen him twice since he moved but he has called a few times too. I think he will be fine. His girlfriend and fraternity brothers seem to be his life now so that is all he thinks about besides his jobs. I got tickled at him yesterday when he washed his plate from lunch, he was telling me how all the things I taught him about keeping things looking nice had spilled over into how he keeps his apartment. That made me feel proud of him.

That is interesting about how we can lose 10% then stay there a while until our body adjusted and the lose 10% more. Like I said before I have done nothing but gain weight the past few months I guess from the stress of moving. I've decided to go back to Weight Watchers when I get moved and settled. I might even go to meetings. I've decided that it might be fun to lose and get the little rewards they give. Maybe I could even start cooking some of their recipes. I'm just tired of bouncing around and getting no where.

You Weight Watchers used to set the 1st goal as a 10% weight loss. Maybe they knew what you read about. I remember some people setting 10% goals. They would lose 10% and then set another 10% goal again. I kind of like the idea of eating fruits and veggies that are low enough glycemic to be 0 pts. I'm kind of doing it now although I am not counting the pts at this time only because I don't have time. I will get more serious with the counting when I get settled enough to join WW again.

Wannabehealthy 09-06-2016 09:13 AM

Trish, when I did WW I still followed low carb. It can be done. I ate my daily points, but it was just protein and veggies. I am not big on fruit, although I try to get in half a banana or half an orange a couple times a week, for the nutrition. I lost weight too, but couldn't afford the meetings and that was what kept me on track. Can't do it on my own. I think I have really lost all my will power. I just want to wake up tomorrow, skinny. LOL My friend lost 16 lbs. She has been getting A1c numbers in the 7 range and would not take any meds. Then this last time it went up to 8.3 and she decided to get it back down. She started watching her carbs, but not really low. I think she was around 150 per day. Normally she eats lots and lots of sweets and she cut that out. The weight just came off from cutting the carbs, plus she exercises. She gets the A1c checked again soon. Then I hope she doesn't become complacent and go back to her sweets. I will be curious to see her A1c at that carb level.

pattygirl63 09-06-2016 01:19 PM

Carol Slue I'm only eating 1 or 2 fruit servings a day. Not sure what my carb count is, I mainly want to cut out the simple, refined carbs out and only use the low glycemic.

One day last week I ate only veggies for one meal... more vegetarian style and had to run to the potty for about an hour. (I had not gone in a couple of days and didn't want the problem I had before.) I can see if I get to the place of spreading my fruit over the morning, have one vegetarian meal and then have a regular meal with DH, I could get myself straightened out and lose weight and get the FBS down without medication. So that is actually the plan I intend to do. I did have a lowcarb breakfast this morning with eggbeaters, spinach and lf Jimmy Dean turkey sausage and cheese. I had half a banana quite a while before that. I've also switched to black coffee, but I don't drink as much without the sweetner and cream.

Spent all morning getting the info I need for closing. The couple buying the house lives and Charlotte so we are closing in Charlotte and they wanted copy of final utility bills, but I won't have those until I move since I'm having everything cut off on the day we close on Sept 28th. So I called the utility company and put in the request to cut things off and got a copy of the work order emailed to me. The gas company said that was the craziest thing she ever heard, but she did it for me any way. I think I have all that done. Our realtor will be here this afternoon to fill out the papers that goes to the law company for closing.

I can't believe we have to have everything ready to load on the trucks of the moving company in 3 weeks. It is coming fast. We have got to try to get everything boxed up by the end of this week or first of next, so we can start working on DH tools and stuff in the garage. What is it about men that they think they need all that stuff. He asked me just last night if they have Harbor Freight in Waco. I've told him that he and my brother-in-law can go spend all the time they want there while my sister and I do something else as they both love that place. LOL

Well, I got to get busy again. I'll try to catch you again tomorrow. I won't have cable starting 26th or 27th until I get it turned on in the new place. So I'll try to check in everyday until then if I can.

Wannabehealthy 09-08-2016 11:23 AM

All very exciting, Trish. I guess the new owner wants to be sure she's not paying for your utility use. Around here they naturally cut off the bill on the last day you own the house. When we moved into our house it was Saturday and our phone was not going to be turned on until Monday. There were no cell phones back then. Apparently the former owners weren't having their phone cut off until Monday, so the phone service was still active. We just used their phone service, but I called the phone company and told them that any toll calls should be on our bill, not theirs, and it all worked out fine.

Lately DH and I have been splitting 1 banana and 1 orange daily. I feel better knowing I am getting some potassium and also some citrus, but not overdoing it. I have some blue berries in the freezer, and I like to eat a few of them still frozen once in a while. I like them better frozen than I do defrosted. They are like a cold treat. I have never been a big fruit eater, even as a kid, but now as an adult I realize the benefits. I have not been eating as many veggies and my weight is up. I guess I'm making it up somewhere else that's not good. I used to order meal salads when we ate out and I have not been doing that either. I need to get back to what I was doing before. At least I wasn't gaining.

I can't figure out what was causing my bowel issues. I haven't had the morning Metformin for a few weeks now. I am not having as many issues, but they're still here once in a while. Someone mentioned it could be the chicken, but I haven't had chicken for about a week, and I still had issues one day. Maybe I just have irrititable bowel disease of some kind. I should try eating some yogurt for a while. I don't get pain, just loose bowels. Another time I was going the other way, too. It's a puzzle for me. I don't want to doctor for it because that will mean lots of tests and probably meds. I want to straighten this out myself. It happens mostly when I eat out, but not always, so I can't definitely blame it on that.

My primary care doctor is moving to a group. He and another doctor were on their own, and I liked the ease of getting an appointment. I am familiar with this new group. It's about 4 miles farther from my home, which isn't bad. But I know I will not be able to call and get in right away anymore, and they will not have evening appointments. I'm just glad he's not moving out of state. I had 2 doctors do that in the past.

You will have to get new doctors, too, Trish, but at least you have family in the area who can advise you.

pattygirl63 09-09-2016 06:55 PM

We have one more bloodwork and doctor's visit here... the 15th and the 22nd before we leave.

Waco hasn't always had the best doctors especially for serious situations. When my mother was diagnosed with cancer, my sisters friend told her "If you want your mother to live, get your daddy to take her to Houston cause if she stays here she will die". Back then you had anything serious the best place to go was 30 miles away at Scott and White in Temple which is considered one of the most excellent in TX. Now they have pretty much taken over the medical services in Waco. My Daddy and his aunt who lived to be 91 got on a Scott and White plan when it started coming into Waco area. The shame is my Mama had died by then. They used had to go to Temple for major treatment although they wen they did have a local clinic they could go to locally. Daddy still goes there in Waco however during the years I've been away from Texas Scott and White has become the hospital there. They have purchased both hospitals and closed one using it for medical supplies and they sold the old Providence Hospital and built a beautiful new one and expanded it to a full service hospital that does everything so the Waco patients can get their treatments without going 30 miles.. My granddaughter-in-law works there in the ER.

When looking for a new doctor, I found that the Scott and White clinic where Daddy goes to has expanded so that all the doctors Daddy has to see even his specialist etc including eye doctors, cardiologists, orthopedics and such, even if he has to have special tests like MRI etc are all done right there in the same place. He doesn't have to travel all over the place. So we have decided to go there and get our doctors. It will be nice not to have to travel all over the country if and when DH has to see a specialist. The doctor who did my Daddy's cataract surgery is right there in the Scott & White clinic where Daddy sees his primary doctor.

I personally would love to switch to a D.O. because they treat the whole problem not just the symptoms, but they are not associated with Scott & White and I'm not familiar with the hospital they use and I do trust Scott & White. So I'll stick with the them.

I am not taking Metformin 500mg. It is a shame that I can't use it. My sister can't take it either and she has gobs of it she was going to give me. However, DH takes it so she can give it to him. We won't have to buy them right away. LOL However, we will have to get a new doctor so we can get our prescriptions. DH thinks we can transfer them, but I think we will have to have a doctor there.

Well, the government or FDA or our insurance have changed rules on meds again. The one pain medicine and sleeping medication that DH could get without any problems rules have changed. They have decided they are a controlled substance now so they cannot call the prescription in to the pharmacy any more so I have to go by the doctor's office in the morning on the way to the beauty shop to pick up the prescriptions. Can only get a months supply each month with a new prescription. This is a weak pain killer that never gets rid of the pain it just dulls it. Funny thing is that the doc gave that to him when he insisted he come off the pain medication the orthopedic gave him after the neck surgery. He could have kept going to him for the back pain and got it with no problems, but it was so far to go. At the time this medicine was not considered to be habit forming which was the reason our doctor talked him into taking it. This is all so crazy.

All this packing is beginning to work. I'm not on a diet. I am more or less eating a combo of IF/IE. Carol Sue I too have actually stumbled into eating like I did when I was young. I say stumbled, because I didn't plan on it. I get so busy packing or getting things ready to pack that I just forget to eat. I have had about 3 or 4 days of not eating until around 4ish and end up eating within 5 to 9 hrs, thus IF. Then I eat whatever is fairly quick whether eating out or at home for the main meal around 4 and later eat a snack when I get hungry and usually I end up with a snack rather than a meal. It all has to do with what is going on. Even not taking the Metformin, I end up having weird bowel times etc. Some days I may have loose or diahrrea, but some days I have none at all. I suspect IBS too. I am beginning to wonder if all our dieting may have caused this or with me if it was caused from stopping the Metformin and trying to use it again. I don't know if they have the answer to this or not. It could even be the weeks or months of our body adjusting to the lower mg., but I'm not willing to spend my life running to the potty wondering if I'm going to have an accident.

Besides, we know that diet and exercise is the best way to go. And right now I cannot worry about it, I can only do what I can do with all the stress of moving so I've relaxed more which makes me wonder if we spend too much time stressing about the BS readings. I've read that any kind of stress causes higher readings for diabetics. So maybe that is the key. Get on a plan we are comfortable with and just relax and flow with it rather than worry about it all the time. I am experiencing lower readings this way. My FBS today was 111 and my weight was back down to 222.6 this morning. I really hope I can make this a habit. I promised Daddy I would not eat only one meal a day and I don't have to break that promise eating this way.

I'm cleaning things out and throwing things away as I pack. I found the description of different diets that I had printed out. I found one on Flexitarian. I think this is pretty much the way I like to eat. Flexitarians eat more plant based foods and less meat. I do eat more meat than most flexitarians so I guess I'm a semi-flexitarian when I have time to cook. I like eating just vegetables once a day, but I found that it gives me the same potty problems that Metformin, but it doesn't last as long.

Man I guess I had better stop. Sorry this is so long. Will get back when I can. Catch you later.

Wannabehealthy 09-10-2016 08:57 AM

Trish, I talked to my friend who lost 16 lbs. I was curious as to how she did it. She is not real heavy, just a little overweight. She developed diabetes a couple years ago, but her A1c was hovering around 7 so her doctor was OK with that without her taking meds. Then it went up to 8.3. She has always been a big carb eater. She still would not go on meds, but decided she would lower her carbs and get it down with diet. She also does not have a meter and will not test. Stubborn. I was very surprised when she told me what she's been eating, because it's been almost all carbs, still, but not as much. She eats cereal for breakfast, but switched to one with a lower carb count. Also eats whole grain english muffins, and popcorn rice cakes. She eats some cottage cheese and yogurt, slices of swiss cheese, an occasional burger with a thin bun and salads, to which she adds Weaver frozen breaded chicken strips. She eats very little fresh food, mostly packaged. Even the burgers she makes are frozen, pre cooked. I was thinking "No wonder her husband left her." LOL I personally think it's a terrible WOE, but what can I say? She lost weight and lowered her A1c, and I have not. So who is right and who is wrong? After she got her results yesterday she said she is going to continue the way she is. She still snacks in the evening, on Cheezits and Gold Fish crackers, but she says she counts out what it says on the package for a serving, and records the carbs. She says she eats around 100 gm of carbs per day.

I have slipped off my low carb WOE I was following and my weight is up, so I know that is the only way to go for me. Still it's only a little bit of carbs, not hog wild, but it stops me dead. I keep doing this over and over and always come back to what works, when nothing else does.

There is a hospital in our hometown that we always say you go there to die. My mother-in-law lived in that town until she died, and she insisted on going to that hospital, and she died there. Our town is less than 10 miles away and she used to get angry because we wouldn't go to that hospital. She said if we went there she could get the bus to visit us, but she didn't drive and could not get to our hospital.

I hope you find a good doctor in Tx and get all your meds straightened out. I heard that they are really clamping down on pain meds. So now the people who really need them will not be able to get them, but somehow the addicts still get them. Maybe you can go out on the street corner and get some. LOL hope your DH is able to get relief from his pain.
