Morning
I've been lurking on the low carb board here to get some new ideas. I try to keep my carbs under 100... But I don't consider net carbs. I hear yes and no on net carbs so I just count carbs. Down a pound this week,,that's with yesterday being a fast day. The scale wasn't budging at all before yesterday. So easy to put on so hard to take off. |
Carol Sue I've had to face the fact that I just CANNOT do just 20 carb low-carb plan. This seems to be working for me doing this the way this book says. I am doing this Intuitively and I've spent the last few days getting used to the plan and the weight is dropping a fraction a day which I like because I know at my age slow is good. Today, my appetite seems to be more tame. I probably ate a little more carbs yesterday, but the weight still went down.
p.a. That is interesting about the net carbs. I really didn't know what to do about that either. I've been counting the net carbs. I saw something in the store the other day that actually had net carb count on it instead of the full carb count. I'm wondering if that is going to be the new way of label I heard they are going to come out with. Can't remember what the product was. I'm really doing well. My plan seems to be more like WW without the pts and I am enjoying this. Being that this is my "personal", and I'm doing it intuitively, I am not stuck with how much I have to eat or when or how often I have to eat it. As long as the weight comes off and my health improves, that is all I care about. Have a good one. |
I think it's a personal choice to count carbs or net carbs. As long as it's working for you, it really doesn't matter. The fiber in vegetables makes the carbs negligible, so it makes sense to count net carbs. I usually count total carbs, but I do look at the fiber count.
Congratulations to both of you on the losses. |
There's rarely anyone here on the weekends.
I had a terrible day yesterday. My cold started coming back and I felt awful. Cold, then hot, tired. I was craving "comfort food" and ate a whole package of Alfredo Noodles myself, then had some french fries that DH was eating, and then a big roll with butter. It was very comforting, but with no protein with it, my blood sugar went sky high. I'm surprised I wasn't feeling any symptoms, but after testing, I took 2 Glimiperide and went to Walmart. I needed a few things and figured walking around the store would help bring the blood sugar down. I'll surely be more careful with my eating now! |
Carol Sue I hope you are feeling better today.
I got a really good deal to upgrade to a new cell phone. A brand I've never heard of but it is a $149.99 phone and I got it for $29.99. My other phone was at least 5 yrs old and I it wasn't always reading my SD card. My DS thought the phone was going out on me. So I took advantage of the deal for the new one. I told DH I didn't want the old one to go out and then I would have to spend more to get a new one. I've been spending last night and today setting it up and learning how to use it. Keeps my hands busy and I am not munching at night. |
Morning weekends are slower here.
Trish that's a great deal.. Carol I hear you on the comfort food....it's always carby isn't it. Tomorrow morning is my next Drs appt. I was able to see my results from my blood work already online. My A1C is down to 7.2 that's way down from my first test. But, still need to work on it. See what dr has to say. |
p.a. I was never told what my A1c was when I was first diagnosed. I was in the hospital having open heart surgery, and they were more concerned about my heart than my diabetes. Since then, the lowest I've had was 5.6 and the highest was 7.9. I feel better when it's at least as low as 6.5 and my doctor is usually satisfied if it's below 7. If yours is coming down, that's always good. I would like to note that the 5.6 was during a time when I was exercising regularly, something I should be doing now. I keep waiting for this cold to subside, but it wants to linger......
Good deal on the phone, Trish. My last one broke in less than a year, before I even learned all the features. Rather than take the warranty I bought a better one and now I have to learn the features of this one. LOL |
Back from Drs.....she was amazed with my blood sugars were 5.2 and fasting was 7.2. Told me to keep up the great work. Suggested I walk more and watch what I eat for the blood fasting number. I've never talked to her about the dawn phenomenon....
Weight's down , blood pressure is down....overall a great appt! Carol she wants mine under 7 as well.... Feel better soon! |
p.a. Congratulations on your good doctor's visit.
Carol Sue Hope you are getting over that cold. I started riding the recumbent bike again today. I went ahead and did 30 minutes and thinking about doing 15 more later. I'm doing pretty good with my eating, but fbs isn't near what I want it to be even though I'm not eating much these days. So I've decided that there is only one thing left to do and that is get back to exercising. I do want to work up to 45 minutes 5 or 6 days a week. Hopefully that will get my bs back down to normal. I decided to try the Metformin 500 ER again. I hope I will be able to use it. I've just about decided that if I can't take it and the doctor refuses to give me the glymeperide that I just may find another doctor who will. It is ridiculous for them to have a medication that will help me and he won't give it to me. But I will give the exercise a chance to work between now and when I see him at the end of next month. |
Good for you Trish,,,,I've been walking but I think I need to do something else with it. Maybe I'll head back to aquafit
|
Trish, I think you're making a mistake wanting to take glimiperide. First of all, I don't think any doctor would prescribe it with your A1c where it is. My doctor didn't prescribe it until my A1c hit 7.9, and I don't think you want that. It causes your body to release more insulin and insulin stores fat in the cells. I think with weight loss and exercise your BS will go down to where you want it and you'll be happier and better off in the long run. Here I am wanting so badly to get off the glimiperide, and you want to go on it! If you really want to go on it, start eating a lot of carbs and raise your A1c. Then they'll prescribe it.
|
Carol Sue I'm sure your right. It's just that since I took that Januvia, it has really been difficult to get my fbs back down to what it was before. I'll just keep trucking along.
I did get 45 minutes exercise in today. Don't know if I will do that everyday, but I do hope to do 30 minutes 3 days and the 45 minutes 2 or 3 days a week with 1 day off. |
Trish, I hope it didn't feel as though I was scolding you. I didn't mean it that way. I just think you are doing fine, and your A1c was good last time, so I don't think you should worry about it that much. The decision is up to you, of course.
For some reason I don't understand, my psoriasis seems to be improving. I always tell the hairdresser to leave my sides long enough to cover my ears because I have psoriasis on and around my ears. Well, as of yesterday, it's gone from my ears. I keep feeling them and feeling smooth skin. I can't believe it. The psoriasis around my waist area is still there, but it is flatter, not bumpy, and the skin feels very smooth compared to what it usually feels like. I wish I knew what is causing this. If it's something I'm doing, I want to continue doing it. For one thing, I have had this cold for the past 2 weeks or longer. I don't seem to have a fever, but I do get hot and sweaty. Maybe I'm clearing toxin out of my body. Also, my diet has changed. Since I don't feel good, I've been eating more things like noodles and pasta, like in soup, and less meat and vegetables because they just don't appeal to me. I have eaten low carb for so long that this feels like I'm doing something wrong and I keep telling myself that it's because I don't feel well. I just don't know what to think. Usually psoriasis gets worse in the winter because your skin gets drier. |
I feel for you Trish my bs readings during the day are rarely over 6..... But yet my fasting number from Drs was 7.2 and I'm on janumet plus glaclizide....right now I'm testing more often. I've had two lows this week. I've been watching my carbs more closely. But, my dr told me if my fasting number isn't down by next appt 3 months) she will change my meds again. She was happy with my numbers just wants me A1C under 7 . I don't know what else to do to get it lower,,,so I will keep losing and exercising and hope for the best in 3 months.
Sometimes I feel like No matter what I do that damn number won't go down. I'm so glad to hear your psoriasis is going away. :). Great news Carol!! |
Today I noticed that my elbows are still rough and red, but the flaking is gone. What's happening? I don't care!!! LOL
p.a. I have heard that fasting blood sugar is the last to come down when you start treating BS. My doctor never cares what my fasting is as long as my A1c is under 7. Hope you get good readings. |
