Unhappy Out of control BS

I learned I'm Type II Diabetic after receiving a free Blood Glucose Meter early August 2008.I went it alone until late April 2009 when per my request I asked my Doctor to Prescribe Metformin. When I was almost on my third bottle I stopped taking because it began causing excruciating pains in my Legs.

My first A1C October '08 was 8.2..April '09 7.1..June '09 6.4 and October '09 6.8..

My Blood Sugar was OUT OF CONTROL Day before Yesterday and Yesterday.

218,228,211,189,237,212,303 (freaked out,my BS has NEVER been that elevated),289,294,272,243,290,284,226,200,205,291, 242 & 214..Until now,I have NEVER had a BS above 256..

I don't know what, but something malfunctioned and I'm scared!!!This has never happened to me.Had a difficult time getting it to come down.Last time I checked,it was 164..I started taking Metformin again.

I had a minor elevation early April 2009,so went to Emergency. The difference between then and now is: My BS came down nicely.I didn't go to Emergency again, because all they would probably have done is another ABG (Arterial Blood Gas to detect Diabetic Ketoacidosis) and give me X Units of Insulin.I don't want that as I fear Hypoglycemia!

I recently had Chest Infection and took a 10 Day Course of Amoxicillin.A Relative who is also Diabetic and has same Doctor as I told me that he told her this Antibiotic can elevate BS.

I was VERY NAUGHTY New Years.I drank over 2 Pints of Smirnoff and ate unhealthy.

Though I take FULL responsibility for my unhealthy behaviors New Years,I cannot afford to eat Healthy on a Daily basis.Am really struggling.

I'm over my Head in debt (thanks to a Gambler who borrowed Money, then didn't repay me),and after paying Bills, there is little Money if any Money to buy Food. The last time I bought a cart full of Healthy and Nutritious Foods was January 12,2009.Since,I have "scrounged" for whatever I eat.

Every time I turn around I have to put Money into my Car,which I've had less than a Year and now need a new Part for my Washing Machine.

I've been stressy ALOT!I didn't get into a short Course for the second time, and it was my means to get out of Debt.

I've decided it doesn't matter which Bill (s) has to go,I'm BUYING Food!

I'm keeping Fingers crossed it will continue coming down

Well, I wish I could just grab you and move you in with me.

I'm sure the meds for your illness have affected your BGL but am more worried about the Smirnoff binge. Things like that can throw us for a while.

Can you possibly go back to your doctor or a clinic to get an evaluation of your condition?

I've read your previous posts and know that you know how to eat properly. Tale care of yourself, please.

Its a hard lesson, you were coping ok until you overdid it on the holidays. Its not really fair but I think you are right to put yourself and good food first.
I don't know if debt counselling is an option for you, but might help you get control over finances and stress, and that can only help your diabetes.
good luck

Ruthxxx,
I found the source of my enormously elevated readings. My Meter malfunctioned!I received a new and free Meter. When I checked my BS,it was 90!I quickly rechecked on the old one,and got 131..

I happened to remember taking the same Antibiotic early March 2009.I don't recall elevations in BS,but that's not to say Antibiotics or other Medications don't have an impact on our BS.

Regarding the Smirnoff..a Friend and I bought 4 Bottles..2 for her and 2 for me..we bought the remaining Smirnoff the Store had.I'm not nor have I ever been one to drink much or often.

Fatmad,
To my knowledge I don't believe we have debt relief Agencies in my Area,or if I can get debt consolidation given the type of payments I have (mostly Finance Companies).I had to go that route instead of borrowing Money from my Bank.It would've been a tremendous help if I could have..

Whew! I'm glad the readings were due to a machine malfunction rather than a body malfunction.

Glad you got that sorted out; sounded too high for one bad day! In the future, you will know what the signs are ...

And, about the credit debts: one suggestion -- lower the payments to each one, BUT stay above the minimum payments; and always pay them something! Never miss a payment, or you give them cause for re-dress. For example, take $10 off each bill and put it on the other one.

Basic necessities are: everything pertaining to the roof over your head; plus food and medicine. We all need clothes but most us have them already. PS -- I took business the second time I went to college.

Justwant2Bhealthy,
Actually,I didn't have signs of Hyperglycemia, but will know 1 sign that my Meter is malfunctioning-extremely high readings!

I genuinely appreciate your suggestion regarding the credit debts. There is a set amount I pay toward each Finance Company. If I lower the payments, they will tack on more.I was late making 2 payments to 2 FC's,so a $10 late fee was tacked on.I paid the $10 late fee every Month until I had to renew the Loans.I really didn't want to renew, but I was left with no other alternative.

Finance Companies are wonderful if/when we really need to use they're services, yet are evil too!

OK, I thought you meant credit card debts -- where you can decide on the payment (there is a set minimum, but there is leeway how high a payment you can make). For loans from a finance company, they usually set the payment amount, but sometimes they are willing to lower the amount by $10 or $20 a month, for a while if you ask them to.

Yes, you will have to pay that at the end, but it may only be for one term; and you can go back to the original payment the next renewal -- that is why it is so important not to miss or be late on a payment. Loans are a different thing from credit cards; there is a big difference on how they are done. I prefer a line of credit, an overdraft, and credit cards to a loan becuz there is more flexibility. People usually get a loan for certain things, like a car; or a mortgage, for a house ...

That's why they should teach all this to people in school; including personal budgeting. Experts say those that are taught when they are young, how to use a credit card to their advantage do much better financially ... And, if they start with a credit card with a $500 limit right from the start -- that can be used as a tool to teach them hands-on how to handle money and credit, not just read about it ...

Hope you find a solution soon!
