Default Sugar Free Ice Cream

I just want to ask...I bought some Edy's "no sugar added, fat free" ice cream, I'm confuse since I couldn't find any "sugar free" ice cream in my supermarket. Any brand in particular that you guys buy? It's the Edy's one ok for me to eat in moderation? Since I'm following WW plan I just bought it in case I have a craving for ice cream and I have the points to do it.

hey -fat free no sugar added ice cream tastes ok, but it tastes nothing like ice cream. personally, if i want ice cream, i would rather have a small amount of the real stuff. it fills you up. plus the fat decreases the glycemic index. i find that the other stuff leaves my stomach feeling empty, i am still hungry, and much more likely to either eat more or have something else.

Hey - I get the Skinny Cow icecream ( bars, sandwicks and pops).. no sugar and it has 4 grams of fiber, some are around 100 calories.. Its really good.. I don't have it every night but its a quick fix. Check it out online..

There isn't any sugar free ice cream as there are sugars in milk/cream. I get the Edy's no-sugar added for my diabetic DH. Blue Bunny also makes a line of no-sugar added fat free and reduced fat ice creams. Sometimes he uses some Walden Farms chocolate or caramel dip as a topping for a sundae.

I think it depends upon your doctor's recommendations for total sugar intake...some diabetics have to be very strict. If not, it should be ok.

I have tried the Skinny Cow ones before and I like them but I though it was a no-no. Glad to know I can have it as far as I don't abuse it.

POLAR ice cream bars are only about 100 calories each; their chocolate popsicles are only 90 calories, and the other just as nice flavors (banana, orange & grape) are 60 calories each. These are just regular and so low cal that we just buy these and they are very satisfying.

Sometimes, we also buy a good quality 1.5 liter VANILLA BEAN Ice Cream, and it is so tastey that one little serving is worth it. We use those little fruit nappy dishes to measure the serving and have it only occasionally like once a week on Sundays.

all this talking of ice cream is making me really hungry now i was just on the skinny cow web site, drooling over the mint ice cream cones and strawberry shortcake sandwiches...

I've been having Edy's slow churn LIGHT ice cream. I personally like the "Take The Cake" and "Fudge Tracks" one.. but I tend to eat TOO much of it like I did reg ice cream and it prob continues getting me into trouble but I am more addicted to ice cream than anything else, especially in hot weather, LOL.

I decided that I'm getting rid of it, I feel bad about trowing out food but last night had a little bit of it and I felt grossed out by it. Then I read all the unknown ingredients (at least to me) and decided it wasn't healthy at all.

Stick with normal ice cream. Sugar free doesn't mean low carb!! I often find that the "low carb" or "Diabetic Friendly" sweets/ice cream actually contain a similar or higher amount of carbs and that's what counts for us.

If you portion it out, eat it slowly (smaller bites never hurt anyone!) and make sure to adjust your insulin/tablets/glucose tests for it, then there's usually no problem having some. My diabetes consultant said that if my bsl was in the 80-130 range I could have 1/2 cup of ice cream as a dessert and it shouldn't affect my morning readings.

I don't use any medications as today, I've been able to control it with diet and exercise. I will play with those numbers since that sugar free version seems like is loaded with everything artificial. Thanks, again.

If the ingredient list on the low sugar ice cream freaked you out, don't bother reading the normal stuff; it's just as artificial. That's the trade-off of buying things instead of making them. If I want something that is created in another state (or country), shipped here, and still presentable and edible, it's going to have stuff added.

I enjoy skinny cow things myself, but I think the single-serving stuff is the way to go. There's too much of an urge to get a huge scoop of something that's not so bad, making it just the same. My danger is that I'll just have soup and skinny cows. Even if I eat under 1200 calories, if they're all ice cream, I'm not doing myself any favors.

It's true, I've been thinking about getting a machine to make my own? Any suggestions?
