Thumbs down i think i'm screwed

hi all,

here's my problem and its really got me down. in 2 weeks there's an 80% chance I will no longer be employed. The problem with this is that i'm currently running so behind in my pay cheques that i won't even have enough money to pay rent for august. i went on vacation namely i went home for my sister's graduation and because i don't have any vacation leave i lose money every day i'm not working.

i have no food in my fridge... last nite i made a concoction of the few things i had left in my fridge (green beans, black beans, canned tomatoes and coconut milk) but that's my lunch today so now i'm completely out of food.

my depression is really bad right now, in fact as i type this at work, i am forcing back tears. my meds run out in about 1 week and i won't be able to afford to get more (i also don't have a health plan). i'm already a day behind on my birth control because i don't have any of those left and no money.

this is a typical situation for me -- at least the level of stress. i go on a diet and lose wonderfully (right now i'm down 8lbs in one week) but then i become soooo broke that i have no choice but to go off of it. right now i'm running out of my staple foods (beans, canned tuna and canneed tomatos) so i'm really worried.

i'm so upset and really just sick of this whole world and don't know what to do anymore.

Thumbs up

Don't despair! Something will work out. And if you have no money for food, you'll lose LOTS of weight. LOL (Just trying to help you find the silver lining.) And if you're out of birth control, I hoping you weren't speaking literally about being screwed...

Seriously though, I do realize losing a job is a real downer, and pretty scary. As my therapist used to say, though, don't get caught up in "catastrophic thinking". In other words, try to relax and look at the whole situation without the emotional reactions. (Don't mind me. I'm on my )

I don't know if you're eligible for EI, but if so, that will kick in. If not, there is always welfare while you look for another job. I'm sure Vancouver has food banks, although their food is not necessarily the most nutritious. And Van must have free birth control clinics, even if you have to resort to condoms for a while. As for you rent, maybe your family could help out? You might have to take a lower-paying or less enjoyable job for a while.

To fend off the depression, especially if you find yourself out of a job, use some of the time to exercise. Walk, hike, run if you can, bike if you have one.
So try to cheer up and look for the positive. Worrying and stressing about what might happen won't stop it from happening, so try to calm down for now. But do look for a new job, and keep smiling.

Call your parents, sister, other family? Will they help you in this emergent situation? What about work? Can they advance you some $$$ so you can buy food and pay the rent?

Your doctor should be able to get you samples from the pharmaceutical companies to help out with meds if you have a hardship situation. He/she should also be able to suggest someplace you can go to get free counseling.

Do you have any close friends who would help you through a temporary tough time?

Sorry things are going so poorly for you right now.
I'd suggest going to social services as they can tell you what services are available. I know they use to help in emergency situations, but since Mr Campbell took over I have no idea what they do now. They should be able to help you get your meds or maybe your doctor can get you samples. Thats the nice thing about our health care system, you can still see your doctor or go to the hopital without recieving a bill. There is also the food bank. It will be all carbs as they like to give pasta's and peanut butter, but it is food.
I sure hope things pick up for you,
take care, K

like the others said, call your family. i mean, i know borrowing money really sucks but i'm sure at this point they're not going to begrudge you some money for food and you can pay them back.

as horrible as losing your job is maybe it's a good thing. i mean, it give syou a chance to find a better job with better benefits that you love even more?

i wish i could help more

That IS a bummer. If your job ends and they let you go, you can go for unemployment right ? I mean I know its not alot of money but its something to help.

I hope in the mean time you are getting together your resume and looking for other employment. I mean why wait until they get you, try to get out b/4 it happens. Start clipping coupons too, it really helps and buy things that are on sale for that week. Thats what I do. Lots of times our grocery store will sell can veggies at great prices, thats when I load up. Also they will sell frozen WW meals for like $1.39. When I was single I would buy them and the canned veggies and Viola! a meal for under $2.

Sometimes when one door closes, another one opens so keep your eyes sharp and watch for that door.

HUGS !!!
