July Ups and Downs Fighting Depression Thread

It’s July! Woah.

lisaloveshearts 07-02-2018 11:45 AM

Happy July, ladies!

Thanks for starting the thread, panda.

Not much going on here. The babies seem to be doing good. Their eyes aren't open yet. Pile o'kitties. Roly poly. Sasha being really good with them. She's a really good mom.

Have a good day, ladies!!!

I’ve never seen baby kittens. Do they have fur or do they start off looking like mini piglets?
I’m doing ok today. I stepped outside to run some errands and the weather is sunny and warm.

They have fur and they wiggle around blindly until 1. They find mommas nipples, if hungry or 2. They get comfortable in the pile with brothers or sisters and go to sleep.

Coop27 07-04-2018 05:06 PM

Lisa so sweet! You're going to have to share some photos of the new kitties!

Panda you're doing really well to put yourself out there finding new friend groups! I need to take a leaf out of your book! I hope you've sorted something with your guy friend too. I just say they're exes for a reason, try to remember those reasons!

Flower can I come camp out in your house with your AC in it? We're having a heatwave too, it's so hot. Hope you're managing to get the snacking under control.

Holly congrats on the new car! They cost a bit more, but save so much in maintenance costs, so I think you'll be better off in the long run. Hope everything is going well with your desserts, and you're getting out on the bike lots! I'm watching something about neighbour wars just now, it's making me think of you and your new neighbours - hope they've been keeping out your way!

Coop27 07-04-2018 05:25 PM

We've been blessed with a really good summer this year, I think it's rained twice since April, which is unheard of for us! It was great weather for our hiking trip, we got plenty of walking in, it was really nice. Between the heat and the light evenings, we're not getting so much sleep at nights though. I'm starting to nod off in the afternoons at work

Hope you're all having a good 4th of July! I couldn't find fireworks, so hope this will do: :flow1:

lisaloveshearts 07-04-2018 07:06 PM

Hi coop, hi panda, hi ladies,

Happy 4th to you all.

It's hot here. I'm relaxing in front if the fan, on my new bed.
I'm watching Zero Dark Thirty. One of my all time favorite movies. I highly recommend it. It's heavy but not shoot em up gross. It's about the catching and killing of Osama Bin Laden.

"Zero Dark Thirty" starring Jessica Chastain.

lisaloveshearts 07-04-2018 07:13 PM

Oh yeah, I found 2 pair I'd capris at a second hand stores.

One fits great, the other pair I haven't tried on yet. I also found a nice pair of sandals.
I'm going to go back tomorrow to look for shirts.

Have a great day.

lisaloveshearts 07-06-2018 02:29 PM

Been pretty quiet round here lately. Hope you all are having a nice summer.

Hope you're not melting.

PandaCupcake 07-06-2018 06:00 PM

Hi Lisa,
I love this weather but have been mostly stuck indoors working. I did go to a cookout yesterday and actually stayed several hours and had a great time. I hear about heat waves but I find it comfortable and I don’t sweat or feel hot.

I just finished work and should go out to at least take a walk. I’m not very motivated. I heard some rain earlier.

I have some dinner plans tomorrow and tentatively meeting with another friend in the afternoon but I have the feeling she’s going to disappear or cancel. I have my double workout classes so if she can’t meet at the suggested time and pops up later it will be too late because I have plans in the evening.

Work was busy because several people on my team took some days off.

Coop27 07-06-2018 06:23 PM

We're doing alright, it's gone down a few degrees, so we're coping.

I've been a bit busy with appointments lately. They always come all at once, but I'll quieten down after next week.

flower123 07-07-2018 03:38 PM

Sorry I have been MIA. Will catch up soon.

Coop we too were part of the heatwave. It was well into the 90s. Many days, oppressive humidity. I have one AC unit that I use in the bedroom. The heat upstairs in other rooms, probably well over 100. Glad Mother Nature finally turned on her AC. Friday was so refreshing. Ahhhhh. But I would prefer blistering heat with high humidity, to our Vermont winters. You went hiking? I am very impressed! That's great!

Panda, I do admire how you are committed to working out. And how persistent you are at finding social groups. You told Lisa you had never seen new born kittens before. Do you get "animal planet" on your TV? If so, there is a show called Too cute. Sometimes it's about puppies, other times it's about kittens. Each show follows litters from birth to adoption. It IS profoundly cute <3. Each time I watch it, I say lots of awwwwww

Lisa yayyy re the Capri pants! Hope you are able to find some nice tops. Hope kittens and mom are doing well. And you are able to kiss them lots!

Holly  hope you are enjoping the return to normal Vermont summer weather. I noticed Mt Mansfield experienced the highest nighttime temp in history of keeping records. We too experienced that in the valley. One night temps only got down to a muggy 80 degrees for a low. Hope your garden is happy. And that you are getting some good biking time.

more later today when when I turn on the laptop.

Does anyone know a good online diet group that is not religion based.? (Religion is great. But not for me). A group that doesn't focus a lot on exercise? I am stuck on carbs. And I want a support community while resetting my eating patterns. I want/need to get things back under control.

Hope you all are having a good Saturday.

lisaloveshearts 07-08-2018 01:33 AM

Hi ladies,

Only 1 of pr of my capris fit.

Sasha and kittens are doing well. Eyes are still closed, for now. They are adorable.

I am getting so tired tonight or I would post more.

Stuck on carbs? Are you having trouble giving them up? I cut back on mine. Going cold turkey was too hard. I just try to have a protein when I have a carb. Protein is super important. Watch your carb size.

Coop27 07-08-2018 05:10 AM

Flower - I've followed a diet group on a site called health unlocked in the past, called Weight Loss NHS - although it's NHS, there are many on there not from the UK.
You're meant to follow the NHS 12 week plan, which gives you something new to focus on each week, but again, not everyone does. They do weekly weigh-ins, challenges, and just general tips too:

Thanks Lisa! I ear ya. It's lik I have all the logical answers. But the carb devil has a grip on me. Maybe the Candida has proliferated again. My logical mind has all the great answers. But that lower mind is craving. Jus had fish and baby power greens. And still chips and chocolate. I will figure out how to shift this pattern. Just will take so,e ingenuity.

I had to change. Didn't have a choice due to my health.

PandaCupcake 07-09-2018 11:18 PM

Hi everyone. So in my last post this weekend I said I had plans in the afternoon and was wondering if the friend that made these plans would cancel or just ‘forget’. I arrived 5 mins before the scheduled time, and texted her, and she replied she was running late. Guess what. She arrived 2 hours later. She did apologize- she had known she was going to be late and thought she had texted me but realized she hadn’t.

Anyway the weather was nice and I ran into other people I know, and by the time she arrived it was nearly time for me to head out, but at least she apologized. But I swear this is the kind of thing that happens often to me with various people and that’s what irks me and makes me wonder if I stress too much or if I am just hanging out with the wrong kind of people.

Anyway today was an ok day and hope the rest of the week is good. I bet the work week will seem extra long sonce last week I had the holiday off.

Hope everyone is well

Panda, i am so sorry your friend arrived 2 hours late. idk if my words will help, of make matters worse for you. I could not tolerate making plans with someone who disrespects my time that way. Of course I have had habitually VERY late friends. I honestly feel there's a line it can cross where it does become about disrespect when they did not let me know in advance about the schedule change. Of course there are exceptions. Could not use the phone during an important meeting. Babysitter didn't show up and the phone was out of service because a bever gnawed the cord. Or a drive by thief snatched her bag and She had to panhandle in order to get the money to call the poliece. But then could not find a pay phone...you get the idea. Seriously, this would have bothered me. But the good part is you got to talk with other people.

My eating hasn't been great lately. I need to get back on the wagon.

VermontMom 07-10-2018 07:37 PM

Hello friends!!! I am SO very sorry I haven't been here at all!! just working alot, and coping with the heat, as flower said, it's crazy hot for Vermont, we had a 6 day stretch of every day over 90 degrees, that's unheard of for us!! I've had to do my trick of wetting my clothes completely and that helps a ton but its a struggle. Then coming home to a hot house, we do as much as we can to close up but the afternoon sun beats on the front of the house and we just cope til it cools down at night. BUT IT'S BETTER THAN WINTER :D
Lisa congrats on the kittens!!! so glad to hear Sasha is a good mommy.
Panda that blows about the friend being 2 hours late!!
flower, Hi
Coop, wow you have only had rain twice since April?? sounds like you're trying to cope with heat also.
Yes my flowers are loving the heat and sun, I just have to try to keep up with watering.
Went to the doc for a checkup yesterday, his scale showed 145 but that's with clothes :D at home it was a low 144. I'm pretty okay iwth that, just need to tone!! I haven't worked out since MAY
I did get a shingles vaccination today! i have a co-worker who has been out of work for 2 weeks due to shingles...she sent a phone pic and OMG the poor woman has a huge rash all over her chest and part of arms.
I'll try HARD to keep in touch better!! :D

PandaCupcake 07-10-2018 08:11 PM

Thanks Flower. I’m trying to get better about my frustrations but it helps me a lot of that I can post here for support.
I try to be a good person; I think some of my friends should do same.

I was so tired I took a nap around 4 and work up at 7:30 and went outside to buy some beverages. It’s humid out. I had no idea. When I get home i should turn on the ac. I usually leave it running but lately it’s just too cold for me 72 so I shut it off.

Coop27 07-12-2018 04:33 PM

Panda - wow, I think I'd have left after half an hour if one of my friends didn't show! It's pretty bad... I'd definitely reconsider where you meet up with her in future.

Holly we've been in the 90s quite a bit too - it's back down to the usual 70-80F now, much better :) I hope your workmate gets over her shingles soon! It can't be fun in the heat either :fr: fingers crossed your vaccine works :)

lisaloveshearts 07-12-2018 08:36 PM

Hi ladies,

Hello to you all.

Kittens eyes are starting to open. I need to take pics.

It's ungodly hot here today and it's not changing anytime soon. Triple digits for several days.

My cpap machine took a pooper yesterday. I had to go to a sleep Dr today and meet with him. I got a loaner machine, thank goodness. Last night was awful.

I got some healthy groceries from Wal-Mart today. I think I'm going to make tuna on lettuce wraps for supper.
I'm hungry.

I've lost 8 more lbs.

Coop27 07-13-2018 04:26 PM

Lisa congrats for losing 8lbs more! You've been doing really well with your diet :)

IBelieveInMe2 07-14-2018 12:15 AM

Hello Everyone! After a wonderful vacation with my family in Ireland, we had one day at home and then headed to Cleveland Clinic for my daughter's bladder surgery June 28th. She had a VERY difficult time after the surgery. :( She is just now beginning to feel better, although she is battling a bit of depression, which is very uncharacteristic for her. It will be awhile (maybe several months) before we know if the surgery is successful, so the uncertainty is difficult. It is hard to be patient... especially when she is still healing from the surgery and experiencing some complications from it. I am just hoping and praying so much that it will all be worth it in the long run.

Lisa, that is SO exciting about Sasha having kittens!!! :val1:
Congratulations on being a kitty grandma! :D I would love to see pictures of the kittens!!! Also, congrats on your weight loss and joining a gym! Have you started working out there yet? Can't believe your weather is in the triple digits. Yikes!!! Please do your best to stay as cool as possible!

Holly, congratulations on your new car! :) I'm so happy that you have nice, reliable transportation with some new extra features. You deserve it! :) I am in AWE of your baking skills! All of the yummy desserts you describe sound delicious! :T

Panda, I am so sorry about the way your mom has treated you. :( You definitely do NOT deserve it! I hope you know it is about her shortcomings and not your problem. Regardless, stressful to be around. You are doing so well putting yourself out there and meeting new people. You should be so proud of yourself! :) You sound like a very hard worker, too. That's awesome!

Flower, I feel your pain about carb temptation. Carbs are my enemy right now, too. I have really slacked on exercise for quite awhile now and my eating has not been great either. I don't weigh myself often. The few times I have, my weight hasn't gone up too much, but I have been horrified when I see myself in photos recently. :fr: :( I am SO out of shape. It is really a shame. I feel like I need to make drastic changes... but realistically, I need to start with some gradual, "baby step" changes. I hope you will be able to get control over those carbs! I am sending you :dust: to go along with the link to the diet site Coop gave you. You CAN do it!!! :cheer2:

Coop, way to go on your incredible weight loss!!! :bravo: How is your OH doing? Are you still following his eating plan for the Celiac disease or are you back to a regular diet? Whatever you are doing, keep up the great work! You are an inspiration for all of us! :)

Lisa, the kittens are adorable! Thanks for sharing the pics.

Severe cuteness overload, I agree!!!
I'LL take more pics of the babies today. Beyond adorable.

Lisa I am glad your health is improving. I wonder if an unusual number of people these days are having increased challenge with food. BUT you lost 8 more lbs. 50 in all. So that's awesome !! I bet those kittens are so cute and sweet.

Holly, Sorry to hear that the sun beats in on the front of your house all day. Ouch. I guess the next 2 days will be hotter and humid. I only have ac in the bedroom. So grateful to have it. Ouch re the woman at work who has the shingles. That is so horrible. Glad your garden is doing well. This year yes, last of watering. Last year was a perfect balance of rain and sun. This year, not so much. But as you said, you prefer it to winter. YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want one month of snowy weather. Winters that are 2 months long. Real spring. In March! My wishes are foe to the ski industry

Panda I am glad you do have ac in your home. I dont use it a lot because of the cost. But I DO use it at night when I need to. Under extreme heat and humidity I will use it whenever needed. But I LOVE open windows.
I totally understand when you say you try to be a good friend and want others to do same. We all deserve friends who treat us with respect and consideration. Some people seem to not consider doing that, a priority.

IBelieveInMe2 how awesome that you were in Ireland. Glad your daughter's surgery is in the past now. And she is recovering. Sending lots of good energy that the result will be successful. Re: her feeling depressed, there is so much of that going around these days. Some normally balanced optimistic people are feeling the depths of emotional pain. And they are feeling like they have no energy some days. I hope things turn around for her very soon. Thank you for the Willpower dust. I need all of that I can get. Sorry that you do not like the size you see when you look in the mirror. I always find that unnerving. I am sending all the :dust: you need

Lisa I just got to page 3. Cuteness overload indeed <3 <3 <3 Balls of beautiful fluff love.

Still I am struggling with these voracious cravings for food. While I try to keep the food sane, it is not easy at all. Every day I am eating chocolate. I think I am having A LOT of emotional stuff come up. And am trying to not self medicate with food.

Typing using my laptop is a bit challenging for me. The L key is not working well at all. Took twice as long to type this. Its been a month and so far L key not resolving. This computer has not been easy. I had to keep renewing the warranty each year. Because there is so much that goes wrong with it. But this April I chose to not renew. So I am left to pay for any future repairs. Tonight I figured out how to disable windows 10 updates. yay for that.

I hope everyone has a great Monday!! Hard to believe that its mid July. <3 Pat

PandaCupcake 07-16-2018 07:03 PM

Hi flower
Yes the apartments have central air.
i usually have it programmed to kick on at 72 but then i get cold

lisaloveshearts 07-16-2018 09:40 PM

Hi panda, hi flower,

Hi ladies. I hope Monday evening finds you well.

I have no idea what to have for supper. I kinda want tuna salad sandwiches but I would have to go get tuna and it's still 100 degrees out.

I've got macaroni and cheese. I've got mashed potatoes. Carb city.
Nothing else I have sounds good though.
I'LL figure something out.

Have a great night, ladies!!!

lisaloveshearts 07-17-2018 11:00 PM
