Hi, there, all,
I just posted a response to Autumn, which was followed by Jewelweed simply stating "Well said, Havisham". It made me realise how much I value this community and the sense of validation it offers. I'm relatively new here, and have found huge support in the way we all remain positive and sincerely try to help each other out. We may not always agree with what others say, but we can agree to disagree. There's no bickering or back biting, such as you see on other boards. Even if we don't have time to do a full post, we say hi and hang in there and you're not alone.
We are acknowledged as individuals of worth.
I find, especially as a fat woman, that that acknowledgement is not always prominent. I know I'm dismissed by people because of how I look. I know that people are 'surprised' by how much they like me once they get to know me...I guess maybe I don't look like someone they'd like.
So, I wanted to send out a little pat on the back (and yes, I realise I'm fulfilling the culture I've just described

) to all of us. We are intelligent, strong, capable people...who just happen to be (or once were) fat. While I'm happy with the 'fat chick' moniker, I think in reality we're more 'wonder chicks who happen to be fat'. And each and every time we take two, or ten or twenty minutes to just give a shout out to each other, we are making those people feel acknowledged and important and that they have something worth saying and being listened to. So, YAY us.
And now I'm going to sit back and enjoy the warmth of having you all acknowledge how right I am.
PS. Jewelweed - thankyou, you made my day!
