Question Celexa

Hi all
Well I went to my doctor .. and she has perscribed Celexa. Humm with all of the kids that I work with who take antidepressants, would have thought I had heard of them all. This one is new to me. Does anyone else take it?? What has been your experience with it??

I took Zyban several years ago in an attempt to quit smoking .. I had it almost licked and the doc found out that I had a previous history of seizures as a child and pulled me off of it. I LOVED the Zyban .. it made me feel great .. and I was down to one smoke a day. Considering I have been smoking since I was in Grade 5 and 10 years old .. this was GREAT!!!! I was so happy and had so much energy!! Dispite my whining and even suggestions to sign a waiver, they would not let me stay on it. Oh well .. does anyone know of any other medication that is similar to Zyban??

thanks to all
Laura

Hi Laura,

As of last year, there really isn't any other smoking aid on the market, but that doesn't mean there aren't any in the pipeline.

The ones "Smoking Cessation Aids" they have other than Zyban are Nicotrol Patch, nasal spray, inhaler and gum, but thats all I know of (2001).

My hubby is thinking about using Zyban....I'm all for it. Anything to help is my motto (with caution of course).

Good luck with the Celexa, if the 20 mg doesn't help you can talk to your dr..they have 40 mg also.

Have a great day !!!

Love, Leens

Hi Goomba
I am on Celexa and to me in my own opinion it works GREAT.. I have been on Prozac as well as Zoloft ..The Zoloft I was taking for 2 years till I reached its maxiumum recommended dosage then was changed to Celexa.. I am on 30 mgs which is a pill and half daily.. I am also trying to quit smoking.. I have become a professional at requitting but I havent given up try to quit.. Someday I wil get it right!! LOL ..
I do know quite a few people that take Celexa and they also are very pleased with the results .. Wellbutrin is the same as Zyban but if you arent allowed to take Zyban dont be surprised if you arent allowed the Wellbutrin but it is worth asking..
I hope I was some help with answering your questions I have a tendency to ramble
Take Care
Sheila

Goomba,
I took Celexa for a year and half for PMS and Depression. It worked great. I was on 60 mg a day when i had to stop taking it. I was very pleased with the way it worked. I took it at bed time so i didn't have to worry about it making me sleepy (and i slept great!!). I had to come off of it because my hair started falling out, this is a Very Rare side effect. One advantage i also found was that i was able to drop 40 pounds while on it. I hope this is of some help.

Default celexa question

Aloha,
I have a question about celexa. My doctor recently prescribed it (switchinhg me from effexor which i loved) so that i could take meridia with it.
I loved when i was on meridia before, i went off of it to take the effexor and boy did effexor make me gain! Now i am back on the meridia but a little concerned about taking the 2 together---my doc said taking effexor plus meridia wa a big no-no----so why is it ok to take celexa with meridia??? Aren't celexa and effexor the same thing??
Any thoughts would be appreciated

Hi all
I have been taking Celexa on and off for about 2 years now. I'm British and in the UK Celexa is called Cipramil, or Citalopram (confusing huh? )

I have found it to be very beneficial, having tried almost every other anti-depressant on the market. I have few side effects with it, although it does make me feel drowsy so I take it at night.

I actually lose a few pounds when I first start taking it - it seems to relieve some of the urge to overeat.
Certainly from my experience, if your doctor advises Celexa for you, I would give it a try.
I still suffer from depression sometimes, but the episodes dont last as long and they are not so severe when I use Celexa

Default Re: celexa question

Maui
The reason why you couldnt take Meridan and effexor is because both have sertonin inhancers.. Too much seretonin can cause lots of problems to ones health physically (heart wise) and mentally (brain wise) That is why they cannot allow you to take thenm together

( I was on Zoloft and couldnt take Merida with it..So I tryed going without the Zoloft had to go back on it for a while and off the merida I am now on Celexa) Celexa isnt like Zoloft or Effexor the meedicinal stuff is different but it works as a seretonin inducer..But now I cant afford Merida..Hope that answers your question..

Default Thanks Sheila :)

Thanks for the info...
I am on the celexa now and doc says it is ok to take meridia with it. I guess if it comes down to it i will definitely choose the celexa!!
I feel much better being on it and am hoping to see some of the weight loss "side effects."
have a great day
