Default How I cured my depression

When I use to eat foods that contained processed sugar, white flour and wheat I was depressed all the time. I gave up all of that "junk food" 2 years ago and am no longer depressed. I lost 125 pounds and I feel great these days.

For me, it was a combination of healthy eating and exercise that helped me get my anxiety and depression under control. It is definitely amazing the changes in physical and mental health that come with eating well and taking care of ourselves.

That's so true!!!! I forgot to mention how important it is to exercise too! I know when I was eating junk food, I didn't want to exercise. I just wanted to stay in bed all the time and feel sorry for myself. I had taken pills in the past like prozac and buspar to help me cope with life and that didn't help. I'm so glad I got off the pills.

Smile There is a book out called "Sugar Blues"

The title says it all.

I have also found that my menopause symptoms are almost nonexistent as a result of avoiding added sugar and caffeine. My moods are better too. I can also handle stress better.

You are what you eat.

I just want to point out, though, that while many people are able to control symptoms with diet and exercise, some people really do need medication to get back to normal - both are good options to investigate and try out, and diet/exercise can help with mood disorders, in conjunction with medication or alone. There is no one solution to help everyone with depression, whether medication-based or lifestyle based.

I have found by not eating sugar & white flour, I am feeling better. It helped me come out of a depressive mood.

I'm actually bipolar and take a cocktail of medications. However, by eating better & setting a good sleep routine, my mood has improved and remained stable.

Working with my psychiatrist and counselor, I have decreased the number of medications I take.

So it is a little of both for me that helps. I can't seem to get into an exercise routine though. I know that would help.
