Okay, I'm on my way! My goal is 60 minutes today!

dollypie 11-01-2006 01:46 PM

Jasmine, you are awesome. That is alot of exercise in October, you should be so proud of yourself!!!!! I have a question for you though. Do you do your walking outside all the time or do you do some inside on a treadmill or in a mall? I see you live in California so is the weather nice all the time? I like to walk outside but when it gets above 90 (which is alot where I am from) I get so overheated. Also I can never warm up if it gets really cold.

Shelliebellie, welcome! Don't worry if you don't reach your goal. I don't know if I will this month b/c I am going on vacation for a week, but I am going to try.

Awww thanx! Well the weather is usually always pretty nice! In July I had worked my minutes up to 1730! But then AUgust hit and it was just so hot it was unbearable! I only wound up at 1185 minutes. :( Between less walking and being bad on my eating too often I think I lost 1 pound the entire month! That was when I vowed no matter how hot I had to get my butt out there!! I generally tried to go around 8:00 and even if I went later I just toughed it out! I am so glad I did! I have been losing steady ever since. I only walk outside, no treadmill or mall or anything. I usually walk twice around our subdivision which gives me 50 minutes or to the liquor store which is 60. Sometimes I'll go twice or break it up somehow etc. Even a few weeks ago the weather was still warming up to 80! We would love to move to Mt next year and I am kind of worried about it being so cold. I did notice in the exercise video forum that some women are doing a video called watp, walk away the pounds, right inside their house! You may want to check it out. I have also heard it is one of the best things to do to prevent diabetes. :D

So Jasmine~ did you do your pilates tapes yet!?! I don't know why, but I'm waiting to hear if you liked it, been considering it for myself and Pilates for Dummies sounds like the ideal starting ground. When I think of pilates I really think of body sculpting.

Maybe I mentioned this elsewhere but, the Family Video chains around here offer FREE rentals on fitness videos! How bout that! I should check em out. I have a big ball with a ball and band video. But I'm really more of a gym chick.

Rowdy, let me tell ya, I'm HEARIN ya on the hubby thing...for the MOST part, mine is VERY supportive (and appreciative if ya know what I mean) of my weight loss, but if I mention heading to the gym in the evening he seems to act like it is taking time away from the family, or just him, or MAYBE its because he'll have to have the kids by himself or what. I know he has them on the nights that I work but is it really too much to ask for an hour to exercise?? It's not as though I'm at the bar with the girls or anything (which reminds me, I NEED A NIGHT OUT!) Like we should be doing something better than wait for me to work and AND need a shower, with makeup, hair etc. and extra hr or so before doing anything else.

MMMMM Cold medicene kicking in...goodnight ya'll, or good mornin to you DAY SHIFTERS!!!

RowdyBliss 11-02-2006 10:06 AM

Rough day.

Feeling kind of down on myself because I had every intention of going to the gym this morning, but my entire body just rebelled at the idea (not my brain, my BODY) and I lay there thinking to myself... "maybe I need to listen to my body..." I mean, seriously, my fatterpillars are HURTIN'. I did my normal cardio routine on the elliptical and, during the last five minutes of the workout, I cranked that sucker all the way up to its highest resistance and highest incline and just blasted my way through the end of the workout. After that, I did weight training on my upper body. As I sat in the sauna, laying on my back and letting the heat seep into me, I felt like I was really doing great.

Aaaaand I got on the scale today, although it's not my weigh-in day, and I was disappointed at the lack of movement on the scale. Didn't go up... but it didn't go down, either.

RRRRRRGGGHH!!

Just feeling all-around crappy and disappointed in myself. I feel like I'm stalling out, like I'm hitting a wall.

Is there anything that can be done about that? I've been at it for two months now, and I've lost a good amount of weight for that time period, but still... what happens when we plateau? Is there a way to get past it? Is there a physiological reason for it? Or am I just overreacting?

shelliebellie 11-02-2006 11:07 AM

Hey all. I just wanted to say what a great idea excercise challenges are. I just joined 3FC yesterday, saw this posting and decided I had to join in on the fun! I actually worked out for 70 minutes yesterday! This challenge really makes me want to work out and achieve my goal. Thanks :)

jcatron243 11-02-2006 11:55 AM

Great job shellie!
Suz: everyone needs to recover their body after a good workout. Maybe get in a 15-20 minute walk this afternoon, if you can. In the beginning I lost at least 2-3 pounds per week, then I dropped to 0-1 pound per week. I just figure as long as I am still losing I cant complain too much.
Michelle: Cold medicine??? Are you sick? if you are take care and get plenty of fluids! I am getting a night out with the girls!! I have 2 walking partners, one is going back to Hawaii (her husband is stationed there, but in Iraq) so we are going to go to dinner and have drinks, and yes I am going to eat and drink (not too much though). I guess after the 3 of us are finished with dinner a group of girls I work with are joining us, I can't stay out late, but I will have a good time!!
November started great for me I hope I can keep it going.

RowdyBliss 11-02-2006 12:45 PM

Thanks, Jeni - and yes, you're absolutely right, there's nothing wrong with taking a day of rest after a very intense workout. I tend to be very hard on myself, maybe a little too disciplined sometimes, and I need to cut myself a little slack!

*~*~*~*~*~*

Desperate for answers but not desperate (or foolish) enough to seek out unhealthy methods for losing weight, I searched the internet for reasons as to just why the heck I'm not losing weight if I'm eating what I should be eating and exercising the way I ought to be.

I am happy to report that the reason could very well be physiological. I found the following quote from a fitness guru who works with the Get Healthy 4 Life program at NBC 4 (Washington DC area). And I quote:

Our Fitness Pros say it's not unusual for the scale to refuse to budge for a while after you begin an exercise program.

"Oh, this is my favorite question. This is a wonderful effect of exercise training. You may not lose weight on the scale, but what you're losing is fat weight and you're gaining muscle weight," exercise physiologist Dana Phares said.

Trainers say it's important to stick with an exercise program and eat healthy. Soon, you'll see the pounds come off.

This, dear friends, is very encouraging to me... especially since I KNOW I'm developing muscle tone.

Where I'm normally a very patient person, I guess I am just letting the numbers on the scale scare me. This is something that I have always had a problem with... the numbers.
