  • TGI Freaking Friday!
For a short week, this sure was long! But it is Friday, and that means the start of my second job- the setting up of the new house.

Looks like it will be a quiet weekend, with Betani sick, Julie going away, me at the new house with no internet or phones, and Elisha doing gutter repairs. Anyone else have big plans?

Hubby has a slow day today, so he's going to make a BeastRun(TM) (Trip with the loaded Durango) to the house & drop off the bed parts, so tonight I can get that set up first and foremost. Once I get home, it's a quick packing of clothing for the weekend, sheet selection from the closet for making the bed tonight, and then a side trip to the storage unit to load up boxes of cookware, Lock & Lock storage containers, plates, silverware, and kitchen stuff. I'll be spending Saturday washing everything & finding homes for it. Hubby will be helping me get things on the upper shelves, but will be spending most of his time trying to keep the sod alive. 2 weekends of frost, and no one watering it during the week is taking its toll on it. If it dies, well, that's a lot of bare, brown area to try and seed by hand.

Yesterday we had 3 hours of meetings. Today, we have a training class, and then another meeting. This'll be fun. The good part- I'll be able to go to the park for an hour during lunch, and then the Roid has a doctor's appointment from 1-2:30 for her elbow...so I'll have a lot of peace and quiet today! Yippie!

Water has been good, food has been eh, and exercise- if you don't count cleaning and packing and moving of boxes, I've done nothing. I've been so tired this week, so maybe having the bed put together and not sleeping on the air mattress will let me get a nice, restful nice sleep, so I'm not dragging butt before the next week even starts!

Hope everyone has a great weekend, and a great Friday! Happy Weekend, chickies!
  • Hi everyone --

Well, I gained a pound this week. I've been hovering in the same weight range for four months. Nobody but myself to blame -- I look back on my journal and see so many yellow and red days. It's not my plan that isn't working; it's me.

Hm, a fat tax... I don't like the idea of a regressive tax in the form of a sales tax, because then poor people will have to pay more for food. Rather than a tax, the government simply could stop subsidizing certain parts of the food industry. And stop catering to said industry in publishing health and nutrition information.

*Sigh* On to a new week.
  • Happy Friday!

Sounds like everyone is going to have a busy weekend! We are supposed to get up to 8" of snow tonight, so it will depend on the road conditions if we venture out tomorrow. Sunday, the kids will be here for dinner......roast beef, mashed tatoes, etc etc etc.

Elisha.....You have really been making an effort to choose your foods wisely. You are right....you can't cut those 'bad' foods out of your diet entirely. They are a fact of life and we have to deal with them.....and, besides, banning foods would probably make me crazy and make me want them all the more! Repairing gutters doesn't sounds like fun, but if it is a step to get you into that house, then have at it!

Julie....Have a wonderful weekend with your family! (Although 'up north' Michigan and 'lounging poolside' don't exactly go together in January.....I am assuming a weekend in a lovely resort?) This break might be just what you need to get motivated on your healthy life plan....we'll hit the ground running on Monday!

Betani.....Awwww....sorry about the bad cold, chickie! There's a lot of that stuff going on around here too! Get plenty of rest, lots of fluids.....you know the drill.

Jennifer.....I remember spending weekends at our newly built house, unpacking and getting everything arranged.....and hard to believe it was 16 years ago! It is so much fun....and I think it should count for some exercise minutes too.

TBJ.....Up a pound. Ugh. Hang tough this weekend.....you know what you have to do!

Yesterday, calories came in at 1800 and exercise was non-existent......but then it was a 'visit Mom' day and, in that light, I didn't do too badly.....a minor binge, but that was all. Today, the calories were around 1400, and I definitely will be walking with Leslie tonight (Joy.....you going to join us?)

I think the focus this weekend will be on maintaining some type of routine....hopefully not gaining back everything I have lost. I am down 3 pounds so far this month.....and I had figured a 4.1lb loss/month to make my goal by the end of the year......nevergiveupnevergiveupnevergiveup
  • Hey everybody

The past few days have once again been out of control UGHHH. I did manage to meet (or beat) my exercise challenge. See my signature! The eating after 8pm has become a challenge in the later part of the week. Water has been low.... have to refill my supply ... no bottles at work! I'm still down the three pounds ... but nothing more.... only have 10 more days to take off two pounds to meet my January goal.

MsRD Sorry I missed you last night at WATP. Too busy watching 24. I'm afraid if I exercise ... it will happen in the morning or not at all.... I guess I need to work on being more flexible with that. Gotta start doing doggie walks after dinner. My Ginger is so lonely with out Sandy. Have you tried making your mashed potatoes with chicken broth instead of butter & cream.... really does taste good! I throw in some minced garlic too. OR I've made them with LF buttermilk.

Jennifer Those moving minutes definately count towards exericse.... More calories burned (out) than sedantary desk work for sure. Get a good rest chickie!

Elisha We had fatty pork chops last night too, with mashed potatoes, gravy and broccolli. Appetizers were Tim Bits (donut holes) UGH and dessert was popcorn %^*(*$. But I've nobody to blame but myself :0

Betani Just a thought ... they have sugar free cough candies that do a good job of clearing up your nasal conjestion and allowing you to taste. I forget the brand but they are really strong ... OH Fishman's friend.

TBJ I'm sure the pound is just a fluctuation. You'll be back down before you know it. How's the jijitsu coming?

Pam *Pkittsy* A belated to you. You've really had a time of it, but looks like your on the healthy road now... I'm so impressed with your tenicity ... hey keep on keeping on chickie.

Julie I know you are away, having a good time. But in case you are able to check in ..... squeeze into that swim suit and get some exercise in the pool. Once your under water nobody can see... PM me when you get back.
  • Hi! Just wanted to check in. I have had such a week........
Well, my Dad's surgery went well. The Doc. was very positive, and does not think he has cancer. We should know on Mon. We got home from the surgery, and I noticed that my Dad was restless, but couldn't really put my finger on anything wrong specifically...and then we went on to bed. I woke up, and thought I heard something, and realized that he was very sick-vomiting. Well, he had just had throat surgery, and I was terrified! So around 2 a.m., I took him to the ER, where we spent the entire night. He has steadily gotten better and stronger since then. Out of all that has happened this week, there has been a lot of good really. I found a piece of strength in me that I didn't know was there.

On the diet issue, I am down 2 pounds. How, I don't know. I didn't make the best choices, but tried to get in a great deal of fiber and water. Maybe that helped? I am feeling motivated. I know that no person starts a diet on Sat., but I am doing it anyway. Maybe I shouldn't say Diet...maybe I should say lifestyle change??

  • Well...rats, what did I do..I hit a wrong button and lost the comments, and what in the world happened to my post??? Alright, I'll be back in a bit to do the comments again!!!!
  • Hellooo!

Lisa -- Hopefully we aren't cross-posting with out comments. Good for you for losing those two pounds. I'll keep your dad in my prayers.

Joy -- You made your exercise goal! Good job. Jujitsu is coming... slowly... today I'm going to go to the beach and practice my handstands. When I'm in two feet of water, I can do them. No doubt because fat floats, but we'll ignore that point...

MsRD -- Happy to hear that your day with mom didn't turn out to be a day full of binging. Congratulations on being on track for your goal.

    ***
Yesterday was a green day. I had the urge to snack on junk, but I told myself that I just plain could not have it and still stay within my calorie range.

Bar review is still going way too slowly. Right now I am on the intro amount of Strattera; tomorrow will be the first day of taking the effective dosage. I hope it helps.

    Happy weekend, everyone.
  • Let's try posting again!!!! LOL!

TBJ- WTG on the green day yesterday. We can only take it one day at a time-right? Or at least that is what gets me through sometimes. I am impressed with your Jujitsu. I could not do a handstand, no matter where I was! .

Joy- Hi! I know you were saying that you had a rough time with your eating, but WTG with maintaining your 3 pound loss! That, in itself, is terrific! And, also WTG with the exercise. You kicked my butt in that department! I gotta get movin.

MsRD- Did you ever get the 8" of snow? We would love some here in GA! I like the end of your post when you said..."never give up"...I am letting that be my mantra next week. And, like you, I need to get into a routine that works for me.

Jennifer- Got the new house spic and span? I know it is so lovely! And, WTG with your good water intake. I am doing better with water..I'm going to really, really try to work on drinking more next week.

Betani- Girl, so sorry you got sick. Feeling better? I swear, bubble baths, good books, and naps get me through any illness . Please take care of yourself!

Elisha- Did I tell you how cute I think your house is? I just love the front of it...really nice . How exciting for you! I remember moving into this house. It is still our "starter home", and yes, a fixer upper. But, our HOME, and I am very sentimental about it. You are going to love getting all decorated! And, you will get so many pretty things for your wedding to fill the house too.

    Pam- Welcome!!

Julie- Sweetie, I hope you had a fabulous time on your trip to see family. I'll bet Kaleigh was loving it, right?

Well, last night we went to Sams Club to get a new treadmill (dreadmill??). DH wanted one too. He is doing the Sonoma Diet, and doing great. The food is so good...I never would have believed it. I am cooking like I never thought I would cook (remember what a Southern girl I am). And, since he has been eating "preservative free", DH's allergies have just GONE! It is unbelievable. Not to mention he is losing weight. Anyway, was it you Jennifer that was mentioning this diet? Just wanted to tell you that it is a good thing, and there is a forum for it here on 3FC. I still am doing WW...guess I'm stubborn, but anyway, I am eating some of the things DH eats. Ahem..well back to the treadmill story...we get home, and my MIL tells us to just take the treadmill back, that we can have her $600 one she has stored in her basement. So, we go over and look at it, and we really like it. And...we save the $500 we spent for the treadmill. Yay! We are going to take that money, and maybe join the fitness center that has opened up literally around the corner from our house. We actually could walk, but with traffic the way it is here, probably not a good idea.

Sorry for all the ramble! I felt like I should catch up with you all!

    Have a great Sunday!
  • hello!

What a great weekend! DH & I took Saturday off and went to the public museum in the city.....haven't been their in ages! I was wandering by an exhibit on ivory (jewelry and carvings, etc) and was shocked to see a necklace almost exactly like the one in MIL's jewelry box! We went up to see MIL after that, but she was kinda hazy on where she had gotten it (she will be 90 this year, so hazy is still good for her!)....but we are thinking FIL purchased it in India during WW2. I wonder if the museum would verify/identify/appraise it for us?

Joy....You met your exercise challenge! Good going! How about this week......you ready to go again? Doggie walks are so nice....makes exercising almost fun for both of us. The weather around here has been either cold and nasty or warmer and muddy/sloppy....of course, the dog doesn't mind!

Lisa.....I am so glad to hear your Dad's surgery went well......will keep a good thought that the reports come out even better Yes, we did get the 8" of snow, but it didn't even slow us down (and yes we have a 4-wheel drive truck). And give congrats to your DH for doing so well with Sonoma.....and getting rid of the allergy symptoms is just a bonus!

TBJ.....Awesome green day! Keep 'em coming! Hmmmm.....jujitsu in water.....i wonder if the resistance from the water will make your stronger too.

Didn't do too badly this weekend......had lunch out Saturday (chicken caesar salad) and today was the big family dinner......dinner was fine, but dessert was a little out of control. There is still some left over, so I think I will pack them away in the freezer (out of my sight, but there if DH needs a snack)

Are we ready for a great week? You know we are the only ones that can make it that way! Let's make the last week of the month as good as the first....maybe we should go back to the beginning of this thread as a reminder of our goals!
  • Evening chickies...
Oh my...what a weekend! It was a nice relaxing weekend with no phones, no work to do (really!) and lots of lounging and alcohol and eating involved...soooooo....you know what that means, don't you???

It means that starting tomorrow morning, I am re-comitting to this challenge! I swear to all of you! I have renewed strength and after spending some time with my family, you would understand! I just typed a really long story about my sister who has more of a weight issue than me...but decided to delete it. It's just sad, let me say that!

    ************************************************** ***********

First let me make some comments to all of you..

MsRD...How cool on the necklace finding! That is such a cool museum! We love to go there, if it's the one I'm thinking of! I had to laugh at your comment about being poolside in January in Michigan! LOL! Yes...we were at a hotel with a pool! And I did get my suit on and go in! I really, really didn't want to...but I did just to get some exercise in!!! YUCK! Up North (West Branch) got as much snow as we did, but they had some on the ground, so it stuck around a lot longer! It was surely beautiful! The "good kind" of snow!

Lisa...it was good to hear from you, but I'm so sorry about your Dad! Know that you and he are in my prayers! And WTG on saving the $ on the treadmill! You won't have to go to a gym now with all that exercise equipment in your house! Hope to catch up with you soon! And yes...Kaleigh had a wonderful time with all 9 of her cousins! Funny story...it was determined by one of her cousins that Kaleigh has more cousins than any of them (because she is an only child and each of them (there are 3 other families) have 2 siblings)!

TBJ...Hope your handstand was just perfect at the beach! And you know what? I'll bet you couldn't do it even in the water when you first started trying handstands!!! Good luck with the Straterra. LEt us know if you are noticing any significant difference! Hang in there with the bar exam...and keep those GREEN days coming!

Joy...Yes! I did get in SOME exercise in the pool...some chicken fights with the kids and a few lazy laps in the pool...mostly just sitting around! UGH! I did relax, though! It was much needed!

Jennifer...Hope your weekend was productive and knowing you...it was! I'll catch up with you later but hope you are on track for this week!

Elisha...I quick glanced the article. Interesting. DH's company has a policy in place for their insurance. Basically it says to get healthy or pay for your own insurance! Goes for smoking, obesity, and any other bad healthy habits. I think it's a good policy...afterall, insurance IS a BENEFIT and why should employers just GIVE it to you? I mean SOMEONE has to pay for it, right? It does keep people motivated to either get healthy or stay healthy! Maybe more companies should do this and our country might be a "thinner" place...it would be a Domino effect, perhaps...because people would start demanding healthier foods in restaraunts, healthy options for most everything if they had to PAY for it themselves! Anyway...that's my soapbox and I'm off of it now! I don't mean to offend anyone here, so sorry if I did!

Betani...GET BETTER chickie! I know that those bugs can just drain the life out of you, so hope you are rested and ready to go fo rthis week!

Last week of the challenge everyone! It's going to be busy for me, but I am going to stay comitted! I'm behind in my exercise...should be up to 40 minutes of cardio by now and I'm actually lowering my minutes to 20 x 4 days a week! Plus 20 minutes of toning 3 days a week which = 140 minutes of exercise! I can do this!

Hugs to all...I'm going to bed so I can get up and exercise early tomorrow!
    Woo Hoo!
  • Good morning!

I am feeling good this morning...but, not a morning person, and I can not exercise in the mornings. I really like to exercise in the late afternoon, and even in the early evening. I know what the experts say about morning exercise.....I know it is better. Chicks, any thoughts on this??

Feeling in control and ready to meet this challenge head on. I had some wicked cravings last night, but watched Celebrity Fit Club instead with DH, and then went to bed. That little "victory" has made me happy. Water was really good yesterday...gotta keep that up!!!

Julie- I am so glad you had a good time on your trip! Reading about your renewed strength has really inspired me . Thanks so much girl!! Plus, we are long overdue for a good "catch up" chat on IM!!!!

MsRD- I enjoyed your post . It also really inspired me. Hearing about your nice day with DH made me smile. That necklace sounds really neat!

TBJ- Are you the one that interfered with my last post?? LOLOL!!! Good job on that Green day!!!! WTG!!

Chicks, thank you so much for your well-wishes and your prayers. They mean a lot to me !!

Hope you have a great day! I'm going to try for a GREEN ONE!!!!!!
  • Morning chicks!

Well, this weekend was ok. Food wasn’t great, but it wasn’t horrible. Water was decent on Friday and Saturday, but yesterday wasn’t so good. I did stick to my exercise plan though, 30 minutes both Saturday and Sunday, so that is a good thing.

I’ve decided that if I stick to my exercise routine for 4 weeks I get an aerobics step. However, my main exercise goal right now is to stick to my 5-days-a-week schedule for *2* months. Why 2 months? Because in the past the longest I’ve ever stuck to an exercise schedule is 1 month. I don’t know why that is, that’s just always the way it happens. However, I think getting the step after 1 month will actually help me stick to the routine for the second month, because it will add new moves into my Yourself!Fitness routine. So that’s the plan. So if I’m still on track on Valentine’s Day, I’m going to the store and getting a step!

Weighed in this morning at 216.4. *sigh* That’s 1 pound in 3 weeks. That’s not good enough. So I’m going back to the Dr. Phil diet, once again. I get paid on Wednesday, so I’ll go to the store to stock up on healthy foods, and this weekend I will do some prepping and cooking and so forth. I know that diet works for me when I follow it. I just have to do it. But when I DO do it, it always seems like a lot of food, but still well balanced and low calorie. I feel like it not only helps me lose weight, but it’s actually a healthy diet, and that’s good.

Also, starting today, I’m cutting back on my carbs, mainly processed carbs, and especially later in the day. Lately I find myself craving carbs—starches and chocolate mostly—and that is not good. I know that the more carbs I eat the more carbs I want, but after a few days the cravings mostly go away, or at least get so weak I can easily ignore them. So tonight’s dinner will be low-carb, if nothing else. I’ve still got a few frozen dinners with carbs, but once those are gone I’m not buying more. I’m going to make myself things like tuna salad (with only a little LF mayo, of course) and regular salad and other healthy stuff to bring to work, though I may incorporate some whole grains into my lunch. I don’t know. I just need to eat less junk, and most of the junk I eat is carbs.

    I’m rambling.

In other news… Saturday we went to fix the gutters on our house. Unfortunately, it started raining before we even got there, and the gutters have to be dry before we can apply the sealant, so that trip didn’t do us any good. I guess we’ll try again this weekend. But Steve says that the gutters shouldn’t keep us from getting a closing date; it only means they have to be fixed before we actually close. We’ll see.

Hmm… I think that’s about it from me this morning. Have a good one, chicks!

  • In the words of La Croix from Forever Knight, "Oh, the pain."

Yesterday our dojo held a women's self-defense class. Well, there was one part of the class in which the instructor showed the women how to pull someone to the ground. Basically, the woman goes flat on her belly, attaches her arms to the attacker's ankles, and then twists. Whereupon the attacker falls down in a nasty way... well, we jujitsu students were the fake attackers. And I am not particularly (OK, at all) good at falling. So I took some nasty falls on my legs and elbows. Ouch! I'm still going to class tonight, but I might take it easy.

This morning, I weighed in mid-week like I said I would. No change. Hopefully I'll be down on Friday.

I'm in a bit of a hurry, so comments will have to wait until tomorrow.

    Cheers!
  • Monday Evening
    Hi ya chickies...
Just a quick check in to let you know that I did my biking this morning and food was not too bad today! Groceries are limited this week, but I plan to do some shopping on Thursday! In the mean time, there are plenty of canned goods and meat in the freezer!

B-fast: Pineapple, string cheese, SF Latte
Lunch: Turkey Bagel Sandwich w/lots of veggies, but lots of cream cheese, too! 1/2 Bag of Sun Chips, 1/2 cookie (it was a big one) and I gave the rest away!
Supper: On the way home, I finished the Sun chips and then had some (1/2 cup ful) chicken poppers (I originally typed "poopers"! ) and some (1/2 cup) coleslaw!

Have been foraging for something ever since supper! Perhaps I need some more protein, eh? I found a few choc. covered espresso beans that my sister gave me from Hawaii and had one or two tortilla chips! Drinking my water now and perhaps that will curb the need for food!

On a "bad" note...I weighed today...WITH all my clothes and shoes, too...which I shouldn't have done...I usually take off any sweaters and shoes, but anyway...could they weigh 4#??? That's how much I was up...from my "up" weight last week. It wasn't pretty...184... <SIGH!>

I know I can lose some of it this week and some of it was just plain "bad eating" this weekend, but DANG! How easy it is to put it on...and how hard it is to take it back off! Grrr! I swear I am NOT going to do that again!

Elisha...Sorry about the gutters! You seem to be having a tough time with getting this house! I sure hope it's worth all the heartache! I remember when we bought our first home (still in it 13 years later) how exciting it was and I would have given anything to be in it as soon as possible! We've done a lot of work, though to make it "ours" and fit our needs! Hang in there, chickie! And way to go on the exercising! Proud of you! Keep it up! We can do this!

TBJ...Oweee! Girl...you are really gonna hurt yourself!!! I hope you don't...but BE CAREFUL! And on the weigh in...at least there was NO change instead of a "+" You are doing great especially with the added stress of studying for a big exam!

Lisa...SO glad you checked in! I sure hope your Dad is doing better. I'll bet it feels good to be home! Yea! Good for you on the "beating" of the cravings! I HATE that...especially at night! That seems to be getting to be my worst time! It used to be mid afternoon "snack attack" but I know I just have to take a healthy snack with me to work! I'll be around all week so we can catch up! I'll have to tell you all about my visit with "the family"!

Alright chickies...that's about it for me! I am planning another early morning tomorrow with a workout. Maybe I can actually get my heart rate up this time!
  • Hello Chickies!

I went back to the beginning of this thread......trying to remember and renew the enthusiasm that always comes so easy at the beginning of the month. My resolution was to 'diet and exercise every day, no excuses'.......hmmm. I started the exercise portion of the plan on 1/3, and have missed only one day so far! The diet part......apparently that is where I lack consistency. So....instead of waiting until the first of the month, I am going to recommit here and now. I will NOT sabotage my progress by dropping off the diet now....not when I am so close to meeting my 4lb monthly goal!

Julie....Glad you had a relaxing weekend with your family. It sounds like you are ready to re-commit also! Together, we can do anything!

Lisa....Morning exercise is better? Why? I really hate to exercise, so anytime I can get moving is a success for me.

Elisha.....Sorry you had to postpone your house repair, but am happy to hear it should not hold things back for you.

TBJ.....Sounds like you took some nasty falls! I think soaking in a hot whirlpool tub is in order to relieve some of the achiness!

Getting late here.....tomorrow morning, I have a meeting with staff at Mom's assisted living home. I don't expect anything too surprising - mostly just to update me on what she can/cannot do and the level of care assessment.
