More Miles

Went to the track again... Could not make that extra lap (butt still sore from the 5 miles the day before) but I made it 3.75 miles.

October Miles Walked: 13.5

artmaker 10-08-2004 02:58 PM

I know I will be short on days to get in my 100 miles, but better late then never, and I've got to start sometime. I just registered at the site and would like to join in, will start my walking tomorrow. No chance of me making a hundred, but each step counts, correct?!?! Now all I have to do is dig out my pedometer. Hmmmm.... Which pile of "stuff" could it be under?.

**Jennifer** 10-08-2004 04:18 PM

Welcome, Artmaker! In addition to the 100 miles, come join us on the other threads in this forum. :) I promise, everyone here is wonderful!

miss_elisha 10-08-2004 08:36 PM

Well well well, chickies! As of 8:30 this evening I've got 3.17 miles under my belt for the day, and I've still got a ton of stuff to do. I'm going to Cincinnati tomorrow morning, so I won't be posting for a couple of days, but I should get plenty of walking in, and my pedometer is going with me! I think I'm just going to let it run steady without resetting until I get back so I won't have to do any addition! I'll just update my totals once when I return.

Have a great weekend, and keep up the good work everyone!
~Elisha

Oh, and welcome Artmaker! We've got a great bunch of chicks here! I'll talk to you again soon!

Hotcupojava 10-08-2004 08:39 PM

The Slow turtle

I've only got 10.1 for the entire month. But I'm trying. :kickcan:
It's too busy in here right now to walk in place. They'll think I've done lost my mind! :hyper: Good luck to everyone. Enjoy Cinci, Miss Elisha

lisa girl 10-08-2004 11:30 PM

You guys won't believe this! I walked 10,769 steps! Tonight, we visited this Maze, and it was solid walking. My miles total a little over 5 today. I know I won't do this every day, but I am glad I did it today!! It's about time I got this hiney in gear! LOL!

Artmaker - welcome!!!! :)

dlzbth 10-09-2004 04:26 PM

A day late but I am back! LOL I didn't walk yesterday but today I jogged 1.8 miles.. :tread:

WTG, Lisa!!!!

Total: 5.2 LOL

lisa girl 10-09-2004 09:26 PM

Donna - 1.8 miles is terrific!!! Wow!! I've been doing this "jogging in place" thing to get my steps in..I look so dorky!! :) I keep thinking that every bit counts!

Alright - I am at 10,378 steps on my pedometer today. My legs are feeling sore from this extra use! I really, really like this walking challenge...it is encouraging me to be active at times I usually am not!!

I'll be back tomorrow!!!

hikein2005 10-10-2004 07:07 AM

MOrning Ladies...

Yesterday was a busy busy day! We drove about 1.5 hours away to see a civil war re-enactment, which my cousin's husband was in...He's a "Confederate" in case anyone wants to know... ;) It was at this old Cider Mill which has tons of property, most of it farm land. It was rather interesting! Anyway...I walked probably 1-2 miles there yesterday. I don't have pedometer yet, so I couldn't tell you for sure, but there was this area that looked to be about 1/4 mile long (based on my walks outdoors) and I walked it at least 6 times!!! And then just walking around there back and forth to the car a few times which had to be another 1/4 mile or more!!!

This all wasn't formal exercise and we sat in the car most of the day, but at least I got some movement in. I won't add it to my totals either because I am just doing cardio miles there. What is everyone else doing?

I know I'd be up to around 25 by now if I had a pedometer and logged all my steps, especially at work...<sighs>...but I don't!!! So I need to get this butt in gear!!

Everyone is doing just grand! Lisa! You are 1/4 way there!! Go chickie!!!

lisa girl 10-10-2004 02:18 PM

Julie......Confederate???????? Well that's the only thing TO BE!!! hee hee....couldn't resist teasing. Julie...get the pedometer..it's a terrific motivator. And, yes, I think we need to include all of our steps...not just the cardio ones. Because, even though we may not be getting aerobic benefits from the "regular steps", we are still burning extra calories...and in the long run..that counts! Maybe my totals are too high...cause I have included my daily walking miles in addition to my exercise ones! (((JULIE!!))

Donna - O.K. girlie...how many miles jogged today????? I can't wait to hear!! (((Donna!)))...Thank you so much for posting on the weekend! It helps me so much!!...you too Julie!

dlzbth 10-10-2004 04:41 PM

You asked for it you got it Lisa! I jogged 1.7 miles today. It was a beautiful moment for while I was jogging the BRAVES WERE WINNING!!!!! :bravo: :cp: :cp: :bravo:  I have a total of 6.9 very close to 7.. hmmm I should of did another tenth!

Julie, I am actually a daughter of the confederacy. hee hee. Of course I married a darn yankee but he claims to be more southern than northern! LOL

Well, gotta cool down. I just had to post for Lisa. LOL

Bye!

lisa girl 10-10-2004 08:24 PM

Donna - WTG !! LOL @ the beautiful Braves moment. I'm glad SOMEONE here appreciates the Braves :) . Thank you , thank you, thank you for posting this weekend. It really helped me!! It's nice to have a "connection" on the weekends! (((Donna))) - keep that treadmill smoking!!!!

O.K., for today's totals for me: And, I SWEAR by these numbers...I have a witness!! I walked (as of 8:20) 14,062 steps, 10.5 miles, and burned 375 calories !! This was my entire day ! I did my exercise tonight, a combo of walking/light, light "jogging". I have been getting more steps in, because I am doing marching, etc., while folding clothes, washing dishes....my usual stuff. I can do this, cause no one but my family sees me! DH has made me feel so good...I heard hime bragging about my 10,000 steps goal. I could hear the pride in his voice. He has decided to get a pedometer for himself.

If only I hadn't eaten those muffins....the scale's gonna get me in the morning. You guys will probably have to console me!! LOL!!

Have a terrific evening!!!

squabb56 10-11-2004 02:16 AM

HI all "wave"

My knees are feeling much better now..... I got new drugs.... Bextra.... seems to be working very well, I just started them on Friday and I seem to be pain free..... This is great.

Unfortunately I don't having any mileage to report from Oct 5 - Oct 9 th. The pedometer I had until yesterday (when the back came off and the battery escaped somewhere) only measured distance travelled, so I'm only submitting miles done while exercising. I'm going to look around for one up here (Canada) that does steps so I can try to keep up with you guys.

Today - Oct 10 - I put in 10 miles (that's no typo). We(hubby & I) went on a marathon doggy walk around a local lake.... I have the blisters to proof it. I really was a bit too much (hills included) but I'm glad I did it. After dinner we went to the local pool to soak our weary bones in the hot tub, and I ended up swimming 24 lengths (25meter) on top of the miles walked today.... :)

I think it will be a while before I have another 10 mile day..... Doggies only get the short version tomorrow.

Til next time...

artmaker 10-11-2004 11:15 AM

Off to a great start! Thanks for the inspiration!!!

Hi all! Thanks for the welcome. Had a great weekend, weather was beautiful all weekend and did two long walks plus running around trying to zen-ify my house (i.e., de-junking my house), for a total of 4.5 miles on Saturday, and 4.7 on Sunday. I even got in a 2 mile walk this morning before work, so I'm off and running...well, rather, fast walking. I was feeling so good about the exercise it even inspired me to start the South Beach Diet, which I stuck to it all weekend, except for 1 piece of dry toast last night at a dinner party. WHAHOO!!! You gals are an inspiration

I am so not worthy of this thread. I am so excited about my almost 7 miles and Susan, Julie, Joy and Lisa are doing so much better! I am so jealous!!! Oh well, the important thing is that you all are doing so good and that I am improving myself also. You all are doing great and I will go over my 7 total today. I promise! LOL

{{hugs}} :grouphug:

Donna

lisa girl 10-11-2004 02:18 PM

Donna - You are DEFINITELY worthy of this thread. You are keeping me motivated! Hearing about your day helps me so much! Don't you DARE leave...LOL!! I was right...the scale got me this morning. Ouch! Those muffins..I told you they would get me!!

Joy - WTG!! You are doing great!! Like you, I have switched from Vioxx to Bextra. I miss my Vioxx. (even though it DID elevate my blood pressure). The Bextra doesn't help half as much! Although, I am so glad to hear you are doing well on it! That stuff is expensive...even with insurance!! Maybe if you can't find a pedometer..you could go online to search for one??

Susan - WTG for you too! You're doing fabulous!! :)

I'll update tonight with my totals. My legs are so sore from yesterday!!!!

gabwill 10-12-2004 09:57 AM

well I have 8 miles done which isn't as much as I had hoped but under the circumstances this past week I am fine with it but that means that I have to step things up. I will post again tonight. Hopefully I have more then 1 mile done then.

artmaker 10-12-2004 10:13 AM

possible slack day

Well today is going to be an unknown as I forgot to put my pedometer on, and as it was a weight lifting day I am not going to get my walking in. I thought I could walk tonight, but a friend invited me to go with her to the new indian museum in d.c., so other than the stop-go type walking, there is no way I am going to get my 10,000 steps in. Ah well, tomorrow is a new day. Hope everyone is doing well.

13.5 miles into the challenge

miss_elisha 10-12-2004 12:34 PM

So this weekend I got in 9.6 miles total this weekend, with over half done Friday and Saturday. The past two days I didn't do much walking at all, and today there will be even less. Bleh. I really need to get my act together.

hikein2005 10-12-2004 06:46 PM

Tuesday!

Got in 2.5 miles tonight after work! Did some TaiChi this morning (beginner's) and my UB routine as well as some LB exercises! Feeling MUCH better about things now that I am back on track with the exercise! I hate going more than a day without it!! Gotta go log my miles!

gabwill 10-12-2004 07:20 PM

well I up to 10 miles. I ran 1 today and walked 1. I am going to the gym later to get a little workout and hope to do a few more miles when I get back home. I am trying to catch up to everyone and go a bit faster then what I was doing.

artmaker 10-14-2004 09:56 AM

Morning all! Got in 3.9 miles yesterday, 2 the day before (just guessing-no pedometer, but it had to be at least 2, for a total so far of 19.4 miles. Am I correct in thinking that I am tabulating properly--i.e., wearing the pedometer all day, and counting all my steps, not just those when I take my morning or evening walk? Hope everyone is doing well.

Artmaker

dlzbth 10-14-2004 10:00 AM

Susan, sounds like you are doing great! I need a pedometer then I could be able to post more miles than I have been doing. That's a great idea. :)

Donna

Hotcupojava 10-14-2004 10:33 AM

I rolled my pedometer over last night

I was marching in place in front of the TV, "watching" the radio and listening to the Mountaineer game (we seriously whipped up on U.Conn) when I knew I was approaching 100,000. I was even excited for some reason. Must have thought bells and whistles would go off and confetti would drop from the ceiling :hat: :gift: , but all it did was roll over and start over. I looked down and saw a lonely old number three. :?: Very anticlimactic. But I'm still moving. My miles are up to 29.4. That's way short of where I'm supposed to be, but I'm really trying. I may have trouble keeping track now that it's over 100,000. I guess that makes it 103,512 steps. Deep breath turtle, I know you didn't know math would be involved, but you CAN do this.

I feel really bad (and guilty) about not going to the track last night. It was raining. I have an umbrella, :rain: I have a poncho, but I didn't have the drive to get out in the rain and dark of night to do it. Soon I'll be using the excuse that there's too much snow on the track. LOL. Move Turtle, MOVE!:drill:

miss_elisha 10-14-2004 11:56 AM

Uh-oh, I'm falling behind. Being sick is definitely not good for racking up miles!

Excuses, excuses!

Yesterday I got in 1.27 pathetic little miles. But there will be more to come, I promise. I'm going to do this 100 miles thing, really I am!

dlzbth 10-14-2004 12:12 PM

I don't have being sick as an excuse. I'm just plain lazy... I am walking today though.
;)

Donna

**Jennifer** 10-14-2004 12:55 PM

Way to go Mary, on flipping that pedometer! Kick Patootie!!!!!

I'm just under 15 miles now, and that is flat out pathetic. Maybe I should walk to the training class the first day, to make up the training. I'll have to leave Saturday morning to make it, and walk non-stop. LOL. Nenner, nenner, I got 100 miles in in ONE weekend- now get the oxygen! ;)

I know next week I'll be waaay behind, so I have to find a way to get a bunch of extra activity in this weekend. More side steps by the stove....marching in place while I fold laundry....maybe I should put clothes away 1 piece at a time....take it from the dryer, walk down the hall, up 12 steps, into our room, put it away, go back downstairs, get the next piece... I think hubby would have me committed if he saw that. he already thinks I'm a little wacky at the moment.

:( Lunch is over...gotta go back & pretend to be productive.

lisa girl 10-14-2004 01:16 PM

Donna.........could you please, please, jog your 1.8 miles today????? Please???? I'll do my 1.8 miles if you will...LOL!!!! Come on, help your weekend buddy!!!!! Donna, this $9 pedometer from Wal-Mart has been terrific...its really neat.

Jennifer - I have been doing that wacky stuff....marching, etc.... I have looked like a total idiot!!! Come on...join me in looking like a fool!!!! :)

miss_elisha 10-14-2004 09:06 PM

Ok, again today I'm logging pathetic mileage... 1.23. But there was a lot of playing with the puppy today (went to visit Grandma), so that has to count for something. Ok, finally going to update my totals now, it's been a few days.

~Elisha

hikein2005 10-14-2004 10:28 PM

I'm not logging my steps that I walked everyday, just that which I exercised! So I could probably be close to 100 by now... ;) I swear I walk 5 miles at work every day! REally! How many miles is 400 ft x 50??? I know I walk at least 400ft at least 10 times day...OK, so 8000 ft. was a bit of an exxageration, but hey...I don't have a pedometer, so it could be much, much more!!!

Tonight I walked 1.5 miles after I got home from my very hectic day at 9pm!! So I am proud of myself! Next month, I'm getting a pedometer, so I can keep up with all of you!

You all are doing great!

dlzbth 10-14-2004 10:49 PM

:sorry: no exercise today except for the miles I walked in the grocery store this evening! LOL Tomorrow will be a better day for walking. :) ;) Julie, don't worry you won't have to worry about keeping up with me! LOL

artmaker 10-15-2004 09:55 AM

Donna, getting a pedometer makes all the difference. When I see I am close to my 10,000 steps, I just walk in place until I get there.

My sister has found the trick is to make all her phone calls while wearing her sweats, she just fast walks in place while she gabs.

Did 4.2 miles yesterday, for a total of? 23 something? Hope everyone has a great walking weekend. I am hoping for good weather so I can get in 2 long walks.

ARtmaker

Hotcupojava 10-15-2004 10:06 AM

Hello Chick-er-roos

I'm only up to 33.7 today. I woke up feeling like I may be coming down with a cold, but I'm simply "NOT HAVING IT!" A friend sent me a tape of a pay per view Barenaked Ladies concert last night. It was from 1999, but it was AWESOME! But, even though I paced tight circles, marched in place and did sidesteps, for the remainder of the evening, watching it took a lot of time (pausing for calls) so I didn't do very well on my steps. I'll do better today, if I can. I'll be working alone tonight and if it's slow and quiet enough, I'll "step" as much as I can.

gabwill 10-15-2004 11:44 AM

well I did run 1 mile yesterday and walked 2. today I plan on running 2 and walking atleast 3 but no guarantee. If I do that then I will be up to 18 miles so I will try my best to do most of that.

miss_elisha 10-16-2004 12:06 AM

Ok, so the month's about half over, that means we should be getting close to 50 miles, right? Anyone there yet? Anyone?

I added 3.84 miles today. Yay! Once I get back into exercising, and back to work, I'm sure it will be no problem. I still haven't managed to crack the 10,000 steps yet. Maybe I should just try that instead of counting miles for a day. That can be my goal for tomorrow... 10,000 steps. And lots of water. Wish me luck!
~Elisha

gabwill 10-16-2004 12:16 AM

well I am at 18 miles. I ended up running 3 miles and walking at least 2 miles so that is good. I plan on doing atleast 5 miles tomorrow but am not sure if it will be running or walking yet.

squabb56 10-16-2004 10:55 PM

WTG everyone  Sounds like there's alot of success happening around here! :cheer: Keep it up, even if you leave me in the dust...

This week I did:
Oct. 10 - 10 miles
Oct. 13 - .5
Oct. 14 - .5
Oct. 16 - 2 miles

 That's 13 miles plus the five I had the first week - for a total of 15 miles....

It doesn't look like I'll make 100 miles for October,:( but I'll do the best I can.

Since my weigh in on Wednesday I have made a personal commitment to exercise at least 20 minutes every day. So far I've only oops'd on Friday.

Anyways, I expect I'll be adding signicantly more miles next week.

:-J

PS I think I need to get on the pedometer band wagon too! ;)

gabwill 10-17-2004 07:05 PM

well I did 3 miles yesterday and 5 today. I wanted to do 5 yesterday but I guess that that is alright. I did more then I thought that I would today so I am happy. That brings my total up to 26 for the month so far. I know that I won't make it to 100 but I will try to make up for what I didn't do the first week by increasing a little on the days that I run.

gabwill 10-18-2004 07:49 PM

well today's total is 6.5 miles. I ran 3.6 miles and walked the rest. That brings my total to 32.5 for the month. I am so proud of myself for running that much since I haven't done it in years. I am trying to increase the milage since I want to be able to run 5 miles with only 1 maybe 2 stops. but until then I guess that I will be switching between 5 min. run and a 4 min walk. Next week I will increase by a minute my run and stay the same walking part. After I am capable of doing the 5 miles then I will work on my speed more.

hikein2005 10-18-2004 08:48 PM

Gabrielle,
You make me envious (in a good way) of all the exercise you get! I wish I had time to do that much, really! I want to increas the amount of time I exercise each day. Don't think I'd ever enjoy running/jogging but I do want to increase my endurance a bit! It's never to late to start those hikes I wanted to start this spring! ;) But maybe I will save them for the weekend and the daylight! :) 5 miles sounds heavenly! I do need to get some music, even though you said you did it all without music today...I think I would go further with music! Just a thought!

Today I did 2 miles but really wanted to do 2.5. My body just wasn't willing today! Back hurting, wind blowing in ears, etc. I just wanted to get it done! Most days I really enjoy the walk outdoors! Am grateful to be able!
