July Weight Loss Challenge

Seems I can't go a day without a thread to post in, so since I don't see one yet for July, here it is. Sorry for stepping on your toes gardenerjoy.

Happy Summer everyone. Welcome to the second half of 2019.

Join the July Weight Loss Challenge to set your goal, track it, and meet it -- with the help of a supportive and encouraging group. All the goals will be compiled into a list. As each goal is met during the month, it gets turned RED in celebration.

Lacerta 07-01-2019 09:38 AM

I had a very slow month for June. Looking back at this year, I'm in a cycle of good month - not so good month - terrible month - good month. That being the case, I'm going to hope for that to continue and have a good July. I have a wedding reception to go to August 3rd, and I would really like to be close to 90 pounds down then, which will require a 6 pound loss this month. That's about what I lost in January and in April, so I know I can do it again.

Thanks, Lacerta! I just realized that I forgot to do this -- I'm so glad that you did!

opheliaphoenix 07-01-2019 03:59 PM

Thanks for starting the next thread on gardenerjoy's behalf, Lacerta! :) I'm going to stick with my 10 lb goal for this month, even though there will be a couple birthdays and a visit from family during this month...it will be rough, but keeping it consistent anyway. Good luck this month, everyone! :luck2you:

(Starting out with a NWI, because it's a Monday. I usually don't weigh-in on Mondays and only sometimes on Wednesdays. My class will be over at the end of this month, so the weigh-ins will go back to normal for awhile after that.)

Thanks for the new thread! Well, June is best forgotten as I've regained a ridiculous amount in a short time. TOM is looming so that might have made a difference but at the moment it's dire. Onwards and downwards! I don't want to set a high target so I'll say 4 pounds.

Newlyn: I think you're doing awesome. Ok, so June wasn't good, but you didn't give up and you're still here, which still puts you ahead of almost everyone else. My June was terrible, too, so let's both agree to have a better July.

Ophelia: You're doing amazing so far. Way to get back on the horse. You have so much going on, so I'm impressed.

gardenerjoy: No problem, you are awesome to keep these going.

Today's weigh in is a bit of a surprise. Honestly, I expected higher. I was good on my eating yesterday, but I was SOOOO thirsty. I just kept chugging water all evening (and I usually drink plenty of water anyway). I think I drank over a liter in the hour before bed (which weighs over 2 pounds). So I figured I'd either be up all night in the bathroom, or be way up on the scale this morning. Somehow, neither happened. So I don't know where that 2 pounds of water all went. I know you lose some by breathing, but not 2 pounds worth overnight. Weird

In other news, I decided to try on all my goal jeans again yesterday, as the 12s are getting sort of big on me (never thought I'd be able to say that). My 10 full length jeans fit great, and if it was cold outside, I'd be wearing them. The problem is that my 10 capris seem to be mislabeled. They fit exactly the same as my 8 regular jeans. Both can be fastened, but are too tight to wear yet. So that's annoying and I'll just stick with the 12s for a bit longer. But yesterday, for the first time, I was able to fasten my size 6s. And I did it without laying down on the bed or anything. They were FAR too tight to wear, obviously, but I got them on. So that was exciting. Still can't fit into my goal dress (which is a 12, but from 20 years ago's sizing), the buttons on my chest are still about an inch apart. I think I was 5-10 pounds lighter when I wore it before, so that makes sense.

opheliaphoenix 07-02-2019 03:56 PM

Newlyn: Onwards and downwards, indeed!! I hope we're all able to hit our goals this month! :crossed:

Lacerta: Congrats on getting down into new sizes! It's frustrating that sizes aren't universal across the board, but getting into your regular 10 jeans is still exciting even if they're too warm to wear at the moment! (I had just gotten to the "can button and zip them up but they're still way too tight to actually wear" point with some size 10s before going through my big regain back up to my 16s, but I'm back down into my 14s now and hoping to get back into my 12s some time this month.) Size 6 is my ultimate goal size, so that's super exciting that you were able to get those zipped!! I'm sure you'll be wearing those sizes comfortably before you know it. :)

-----------------------

A little bump back up today, but I ate a bigger meal much later in the evening than I usually do, so it's no surprise. It doesn't help that it was pretty salty, either...lol. I should have a normal day today, so hopefully it will move back down tomorrow. However, tomorrow is my youngest's 5th birthday, and he definitely wants cake and to go out to dinner so I might see it go back up by Thursday. https://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/images/smiles/lol.gif Going to try to go a little bit lighter today just so I can average out some of the extras I may have tomorrow. https://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/images/smiles/yes.gif

Hope everyone survived the fireworks. I was up WAY later than usual (about 3 hours longer), but didn't eat anything I didn't intend to, so that was a win.

Woohoo, my first substantial loss in a month. To be fair, I weighed in a little late today, as I slept in to make up for lost sleep Thursday night. But it was only a little late, so I think I would have at least been in the 182s regardless. My average weight for this week is down a pound as well, for the first time in a month. So today's weight feels good. It also lets me change my avatar, since I am FINALLY officially 85 pounds down now. We'll see how much of that drop I can hang onto tomorrow. Monday-Wednesday this week is my stressful work time, so I'll likely go up for that time, but then I'd love to end next week in the 181s. Keep the ball rolling.

gosh, what's this July nonsense? I hadn't hardly really finished with June even, yet.
(rearrange the words to make a sentence)

Been overseas for a couple of weeks and got back Sunday night. It wasn't a total disaster but I definitely didn't do myself any favours whilst i was away either, with drinking alcohol most days and eating too many puddings whilst in hotels! So I've not dared to weigh in yet, but have been back to sensible stuff since I got back, and been to the gym each morning since then. I also managed to get out running every day of the last week, so feel ok about the exercise side. Not committing to a kg target for July yet as I need to know where I am first. Maybe tomorrow i'll 'accidentally' stand on the scales and take it from there?!…..

ange82much 07-10-2019 06:31 PM

ok, got on the scales. It's pretty much the same as it's been the last few months at 114.2. I was probably a touch dehydrated so it might be a flattering number but i'm very happy with it considering my recent indulgencies. Seems impossible to lose at the moment even when I feel i'm being quite restrictive with my diet, but happily i'm not gaining stupidly either when I flip the other way, so lets see if I can just discipline myself enough to do all this hovering at a couple of lbs less instead! Easier said than done somehow.

Joy - i'm going to go for 1lb in July - target 113 (and then another 1lb in August - the plan here is to lose 1kg before my holidays in September (although I have a 1 week holiday in August to negotiate along the way!)

ange: Welcome back. Sounds to me like 114 is your new set point, and your body is fighting to stay there. Way to go. Once that happens, it is far less likely that you will revert to being overweight again.

Total Loss for Week Two:

The last 3 days have been pretty awful on the weight loss front. I was weighing in 2 hours early, going in to work for 10 or 11 hours, and then coming home too tired to cook anything, and it is my most stressful time with deadlines, so I always retain water during those days. So even though the scale numbers looked terrible, there was a reason why. I did try to make good choices, but I ended up eating canned chili one night, which isn't that unhealthy, but is a TON of sodium, which didn't help with water retention, and I ate a ton of fruit instead of so many veggies, as there is less prep involved (for the ones I eat anyway), so that was more sugar than usual. Still, today, I'm almost back down to where I started the week. Hopefully it will be onward and downward for me for the rest of the month. I'm still hoping to squeak out some loss for the week.

opheliaphoenix 07-11-2019 03:39 PM

Lacerta: I'm glad you were able to get all that extra sodium and water retention flushed out! :)

Ange: Happy to see you joining us this month, as well!

----------------------------------

No weigh-in yesterday because I had an early morning exam after pulling an all-nighter...was a great reminder that I'm way too be old to pulling those these days, lol. Between that and having a birthday party to attend for a friend's kid last night, yesterday was super busy. I didn't end up getting in a workout and my food was a little all over the place, so I'm looking forward to having a normal day today now that I've gotten a little more sleep and don't have any plans this evening. Hope you all are having a good day! :)

ange82much 07-11-2019 06:33 PM

wow Ophelia, an all-nighter? Don't think I've ever been that dedicated to learning something! How did the exam go?
Lacerta - you also have some erratic hours to do! What's your job again where you have to do these high-intensity periods? (sorry, forgotten!). Yeah 114 seems to be the current weight for me, but a few months ago it was 113 or 112 for almost 9 months, so i'd like to get back to that. In a couple of weeks it will be 1 year ago since I got below 114 for the first time ever. Still figuring out maintenance!!
Newlyn - stick it out girl, you're doing great to just keep going. You'll see the drop soon.

Went back to Kristy's spin class today for the first time for a few weeks. It shows. It was tough - my face is still burning!

Lacerta 07-12-2019 10:12 AM

Ophelia: Thanks, I actually was the rest of the way back down today, so YAY. I did some all nighters in college, but that was 20 years ago. I'm definitely too old to do that these days. Kudos to you. Hope you aced the exam and got some more sleep.

ange: I run my parent's real estate/ property management/ construction office. We manage about 300 rental homes for about 90 owners and do between 100-300 real estate transactions a year and build some houses and duplexes (numbers vary a lot on that, we've done as many as 80 in one year before). We are a small business, mostly just my parents and I for many years, but these days, we have 2 other full time employees. Most of the month is relatively calm, I'm pretty busy from the 1st to the 5th as people pay rent, and then checks are due out to all the subcontractors by the 10th, and we also pay all the owners their rents on the 10th. In 19 years, we've only missed that schedule once (Snowmaggedon). So the 5th to the 10th usually has 3-4 days of crazy for me, and busyish from the 1st to the 5th, but the rest of the month is pretty quiet. I'm actually taking today off.
